View Full Version : Anyone been to a fight at MSG before?

Been on here for a while now, but I think this is the first time I've started a new thread...
Anyway, I'm planning on getting tickets for Cotto-Mosley at MSG, but I've never been to MSG before. I'm wondering if it's worth paying the extra $600 (for 2 tickets) to get lower level seats rather than nosebleeds (i.e. 2 $200 tix vs 2 $500 tix). Are there any obstructed-view issues with MSG I should worry about? Is there a better place to be as far as 'atmosphere' is concerned (i.e. are the fans crazier higher up)?
Any input is welcome, including if you've been to MSG for Knicks or Rangers games instead of boxing matches (although anyone who went to Cotto-Judah, which was probably similar, would be the most helpful).
Thanks.

I've been to some Knicks games while on business, but never a fight. My brother got free tickets to Maskaev-Peter thanks to the company he works for, so I'm heading up there on the 6th. I'm thinking about getting tickets to Mosley-Cotto for later this year. Should be a fun experience.

I went to the cotto vs malignaggi fight @ the garden and the atmosphere is crazy, (in a good way) Cotto will pack the house. The latino crowd will be there with flags and all. I saw one big fight in the mid to upper level it took like 15 security guards to get this drunk dude out. I say if you have the money spend it and have a good time.

Nothing like a fight at the garden.Maybe you could see better on tv, but the atmosphere is unbeatable.Check out a bar called The Blarney Rock just outside the garden before the fight.Good cheap dinners, moderatly priced pints, and you'll be sure to see all the dignitaries doing a pre fight whistle wetting.

THe Garden is the best place to see a fight. Definitely an experience, an that fight is going to be a good one.

Went to Tito vs Mayorga there. It was a fight where Don King gave away a bunch of free tickets to the NYPD and FDNY. My boy is in FDNY and had two extras. I had really good seats and got into the party before hand, saw some famous people, saw Don King and his huge bodyguards...who were strapped by the way.
Really good experience. Hear the "TITO TITO TITO" chant in the garden is unforgettable.

The MSG is the best. Almost anywhere you seat, you will have a good view at the ring. $100 tickets are worth it trust me, thats what we got....

Unfortunately, the $100 tix are sold out.

Blarney Stone is great. They probably have the cheapest drinks in Manhattan, so you get all kinds of toothless hags and derelicts there, which can make hanging out there, um, interesting.

I sat about 3/4 the way up the upper deck at Cotto/Judah and loved every minute. I tried to get the 100 dollar seats for Mosely/Cotto to save money, but I had to get the 200 dollar ones, the hundeys are gone. I think it goes without saying the closer the better, but in MSG there are no bad seats IMO. GO MOSELY!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live a one hour train ride away from "The Mecca of Boxing" here on Long Island and I've been to about 15 fights at MSG. I've sat at every price level available. There's nothing wrong with the nosebleeds, no such thing as a bad night at the Garden. Though if you can swing it, closer is obviously better. I got ringside tix from a friend of mine and that was AWESOME but I don't think I'd drop $1500 if I had to.

ahhh decent seats....u will be able to see pretty good but will probably regret not paying the extra almost as soon as u sit down. idk what the price difference is but for the judah cotto fight i was in section 3 and it was amazing. plus u get to sit with some of the other fighters that will definatly be there and its always good to get a pic or autograph if ur into that thing. but they will be good seats from the looks of them, theres a few barriers with ticket checkers in between u and the floor though if u do see a fighter u want to go say hi to.

I remember going to watch Larry Holmes vs Mike Weaver and Duran fighting either Palomino or Monroe Brooks...
In the middle of the evening, Ali came in... and the whole fuckin' house started chanting, "Ali, Ali, Ali,..." Just fucking awesome!!!
