Prime on prime, SMW. Who wins and why?

Jones.

Either late TKO or a scoring along the lines of 117-110, 118-109, 116-111.

A few close rounds, some that could go to Calzaghe, but Joe gets drilled late with the lead right hands and drops, he will either get stopped or finish. Jones had the speed to just run and then bomb with timed rights and Joe could only probably make a few rounds messy in this match up.

Styles are awful for Calzaghe here and Jones is the best of the best at 168 anyway, I wouldn't pick anyone over him.

Jones. Compare them in almost any department and Jones will be the best or as good.

Of course we don't know for sure how Calzaghe would react when presented with an opponent of this quality as he's been nowhere near this type of class - he may have hidden depths.

Let me correct something.

Jones does not have as good a chin - Check

Jones does not have the warrior element - Check

Jones does not have the stamina, he fought paced, not frantic - Check

Jones does not have the killer instinct - Check

But, is Jones superior in speed, skill, timing and other essentials?

Absolutely. Thus why he wins in the way that I outlined.:good

Actually, I'm going to take exception to one statement..Jones was a pretty solid finisher at 168lbs. It was only at LH that he started to let up on an opponent when he had him in trouble. But, at SMW, if he had an opponent in trouble, he generally did his best to make certain that his opponent wasn't let off the hook. (The Brannon fight might be the exception to this.)

I don't mean just in finishing someone, I mean in going after them.

Can we compare how Calzaghe seeks to brutalised his opponents with non-stop offense, to the Jones style of cautious running and then exploding?

Calzaghe is in there to absolutely destroy someone, it's just a difference of how they go about it. Jones could have done a similiar thing, he had the speed and what not, but he stayed paced.

all these things that u are giving the edge to calzaghe in wouldnt come into play. jones would use his speed skill and timing to completely outbox joe. jones by fairly one sided decision

See more Jones at 168lb, forget about 175lb Jones. That Jones also had much better stamina than Calzaghe ever showed.

Bad style matchup for Calzaghe. Jones wins a very wide UD. Too awkward, too fast and too much punching power

RJJ, pretty wide UD. Calzaghe is good, but Jones would simply have too much for him.
