Floyd Mayweather holds wins over Corrales, Castillo, Oscar De La Hoya, and Ricky Hatton. At least two of those wins are circumstantial. Hoya being at the twilight of his career and losing narrowly in a split decision, whereas Ricky Hatton was beaten at 147lb by Luis Collazo, in my estimation. That said, he has a pretty good record, but his skill set demands more of him.

Michael Spinks, one of the most underrated fighters on ESB, beat the cream of the 175lb division at a time when it was an extremely competitIVE division. Wins over Yaqui Lopez, Muhammad Qawi, Mustafa Muhammad, Marvin Johnson, and then you figure that he was the first man to go up to Heavyweight and defeat the undefeated Larry Holmes. Sure, Holmes was past his best, but he had no business moving up to Heavyweight and beating a fighter of Holmes quality. He did it...outright.

Please stop saying that. Spinks is deemed pretty much unbeatable H2H on here except for a fight with Foster, and people are divided over that. His resume, as you pointed out, is a solid one, and everyone recognises that too. I've seen you say that on a thread over in the General, but it's not true.

Spinks gets his dues on ESB, and rightly so.

Well Mayweather has just about 9 fights more than Spinks. Spinks record looks incredible, small as it is, and the two victories on Larry Holmes is icing on the cake.

Take the Holmes and Qawi wins off his record though and I don't think it looks too special tbh. It was a decent reign but how good was his opposition?

Holmes and Qawi were his best wins indeed, but he had a few good other ones.

He TKO'd George Cooney, a hard-hitter and heavily favored in their match. He was also listed in Ring Magazines 100 greatest punchers (in the 50's or 60's i think). Cooney's only lost was to Larry Holmes, in another spectacular fight, and he was in a decline, but an impressive victory nonetheless.

Not to mention he beat a very underrated and tough Eddie Mustafa Muhammad. You might have a good point, but I still think his wins on Holmes, Qawi, and Cooney are more impressive than Floyd's best victories. Floyd is not done yet, and my opinion of his could change in the near future, but his most notable victory is against the Prime Ricky Hatton. He didn't look very good against an Aging Oscar, and one of the Jose Luis Castillo fights was very close.

Well Cooney hadnt beaten anyone decent for 6-7years and went off into the wilderness after the Holmes fight so most don't consider it a big win for him, rightly or wrongly. No way that 1s better than Floyd's best victories though

I'll examine Floyd's wins:

G Hernandez - consensus no1 at 130lbs, 1sided domination

Corrales - considered no1 at 130lbs, 1sided domination. Corrales was really a wrecking force at 130 before Floyd and then went on to beat the very best at 135 in Castillo, Casamayor and Freitas. Corrales also weighed in over the 130lb limit and proceeded to weigh 147lbs on fight night but it still went ahead

Chavez - no1 contender, practically unbeaten and gave Floyd a toughish fight. Future 2 weight champ

Manfredy - top 3 130lber fresh off hammering Gatti and effectively taking Autoro's Zero

C Hernandez - future champ

Castillo - the best LW from 2000-2006, 1 fight was controversal so rematched and won. Castillo often weighed in at 150-155lbs on fight night so Mayweather gave up allot of strength

Judah - arranged before Judah lost to Baldomir, at the time Judah had beat and was making P4P lists. Judah was 10-3 in world title fights

Baldomir - considered a poor win but he was the linear undisputed champion at welterweight and had wins over Judah, Clottey and Gatti

Gatti - laughed about now but Gatti was a big 140lber that could bang, a 2 weight champ with recent wins over Leija, Ward and Dorin (the latter was probably the best LW that FMJ didnt face)

Hatton - Tyszu conquorer, unbeaten lineal champion

DLH - firstly Oscar was an all time great. FMJ went all the way up to 154lbs where DLH will typically weigh around 165 in the ring, Mayweather weighed 148lbs in the ring, so he had a big size disadvantage and was 18lbs north of his best weight. DLH chose the ring/gloves/judges and was only 4 years older

DLH was past his prime but fresh off destroying Mayorga for the WBC belt who very nearly beat Mosley later.

I'm considered a Mayweather fanboy on here but I think those wins are underrated with all the Mayweather hating that goes on here

Well you bring up good arguments. I am by no means a Floyd Hater, in fact i think he's the best boxer right now. However, by resume, I still think Spinks edges him out.

Michael Spinks is underrated by the majority of players on the General Forum in my estimation and I'm in just a good of a position to realize this as you are. If you don't like it - turn a blind eye. It's less time consuming for the both of us. The old fogies of the Classic forum do not constitute as "ESB".

Old fogies? Most of the Classic posters are in their 20's or 30's............the biased trolls on the General do not constitute as ESB IMO.
