This should be a great card. Charuto-Shields and Lawler-Ninja are awesome fights, and seeing Gina and Diaz is always cool.
When is this card again? I haven't been following it as closely as I should have.

im going to the fight i got tickets for the 4th row
I heard Gina had so much trouble making weight she could barely raise her arm, let alone stand, yesterday. I wonder how that will affect her fight tonight. That will teach her to balloon into a fat ball between fights. She goes from hot (fighting weight) to a bit of a chunker in her down time.

Sweet. Have fun. Let us know how it is (and if you get to touch Gina's boobie).

Question of the night: How come Shogun is really good and Ninja really blows?

Question of the night: How come Shogun is really good and Ninja really blows?
lol. I wouldnt say he blows, I think thats a bit harsh. For the first 2 rounds, he looked pretty good. Lawler came out in the 3rd on a mission to KO him and thats exactly what he did. Props to Lawler.
Overall, this was a pretty damn good show. There were some very entertaining fights. Villasenor vs. Fukuda and Diaz vs. Aina were both great to watch.
Shields dominated Charuto. I thought he would win, but I didnt think it would be so one sided. Honestly, I would like to see Shields and Carlos Condit in the UFC soon. I dont think they would beat the top dogs, but they would make good additions.

Ninja never really steps up and delivers when he should.

Yeah, it was pretty good, but Ninja is not good. He has no business being a champion...anywhere. He's not that good on the ground (and he's a ChuteBox fighter!) and his standup blows. I think he was at his best at 205, and I'm not sure why that is. His brief stint at heavyweight was just hilarious. The guy's not a good fighter, and his brother is great. Weird how those genetics worked.

 Agreed. I'd be sorta pissed that my younger brother makes me look like shit.

I wouldnt say he isnt a good fighter, but he is definitely not a great fighter. I agree that hes not a champion, hes not even top 10 at 185.

I noticed on Ninja's record, he lost by split decision to both Dan Henderson, and SD to Quintin Jackson. Anyone see these fights, he cant be too bad?
I was impressed that both Lawler and Rua had pretty good chins last night. They traded alot of big punches, and kicks for 3 rounds. It seems most MMA fighters get hit by one big punch ,and they are knocked out. These guys could take a punch.

I did also, don't see why it was controversial, he won the third by a near domination. His BJJ skills really impressed me as well.

Condit is pretty solid all around, welterweight correct? Ninja was only a champ because he won fighting Villasenor, who's a gate keeper level guy, but I was glad he got a win.
Villasenor has experience and skills, just is slow and has bad stamina.

He would rather stand and trade, though he looks like he couldn't punch his way out of a wet paper bag, then go to ground were his lanky body takes over. That other guy was throwing some bombs but half of them only looked good, while Nick was connecting with most of his punches. I still can't believe he knocked out Lawler.

Lawler looked damn good. These two wins over Trigg and Ninja have him looking pretty damn good in a division that is pretty weak overall to begin with.

The way he was working on the ground was beautiful, even though Aina is not a top class fighter by any means. I love proper BJJ.

Lawler looked as good as he ever has, I was pretty happy about it.
Question of the night: How come Shogun is really good and Ninja really blows?
The same reason Peyton is really good, and Eli really blows.

i tell you what i had a blast at the fights, one of the judges is one of my coaches, he runs a jiu jitsu school out here, anywayz all except the charuto fight were exciting, good competition, the ninja ko was cool cause he was taking some shots before that pretty good, like the body kick right hook combo that lawler landed, shit you shoulda heard the fuckin smack on that, and ninja just took it, for a second there i thought robbie was in trouble cause he was backing up and fighting like a bitch in the first couple rounds.....

I disagreed with both SD's; had both Fukuda and Aina 2-1. The wide 30-27 scoring for Diaz is what made that decision intolerable for me; there is no real argument for giving him the first.

Ok, the more I think about it, the more 30-27 pisses me off. Diaz himself admitted he couldn't figure Aina out in the first round. He didn't really score that many of his pitty-pats, the ones he did land, Aina allowed to land because he was busy sizing up and timing very damaging uppercuts (credit to Nick's chin, there were some bombs); and a couple of decent kicks don't trump Aina's very effective aggression.
The only justification I can see for the lopsided scoring is a) favoring Diaz constantly but ineffectively letting his hands go throughout the fight or b) the fact that Diaz was clearly better in the clinch/on the ground, especially in the latter halves of 2 and 3. We all knew he had the superior pedigree in those areas coming into the fight. The fact that he had cumulatively over 2" of back control throughout the fight and couldn't - or at least didn't - capitalize sort of takes the air out of his technical superiority as a scoring criteria. You don't score based on potential - and you should score an overmatched guy being able to rise to the occasion and defend himself admirably in another guy's comfort zone. Like I said, Nick has a granite chin, anyone who didn't would have been KTFO. One might say, "Had the rounds been longer, Aina would have been submitted." I would counter that were it a championship fight, Aina very well might have knocked him out in the fifth. Granite or no, you can only take so many hail marys to the face, especially while tiring. Diaz's defense wasn't super hot.
