Rocky Marciano - Beats Baer in an entertaining slugfest.
Evander Holyfield - Another good slugfest with Holy beating him before long
Michael Spinks - Possibly a decision for Spinks
Floyd Patterson - Probably the only one of the four that I might give Baer a good chance at beating. Floyd was somewhat chinny and often got in trouble with big punchers early. He might have outpointed Baer to a decision, but he'd have to go through hell in order to do it, and frankly I don't know if he can survive 15 rounds of the kind of pounding he might recieve.

Over Holyfield? Over Marciano? I can see the Spinks and Patterson. For Patterson it would have to be like the Ingo fight. But is Baer smart enough to hide the overhand right behind the jab?

No but he would be throwing it over and over.
Johansson may have been an even worse match-up for Patterson because no one truly knew about his right and the moment Johansson unleashed it, it was too late for Patterson to adjust. He had been caught. Patterson did neutralize the big right hand in their second fight.
Baer at his best would be throwing right hand bombs from round 1 until round 15. It depends entirely on what Patterson would be able to do about it, whether he could get inside Baer's power or avoid it by boxing from a distance as he did very effectively against Chuvalo and Bonavena.
I could very well see Baer's right landing though. Johansson did and even Pete Rademacher was able to do it.

If we are talking about the best version of Max Baer, then he would have a pretty good chance with the following linear champs who came after him...in my opinion:
Riddick Bowe, Shannon Briggs, Jimmy Braddock, Buster Douglas, Joe Frazier, Ingemar Johansson, Wladimir Klitschko, Michael Moorer, Floyd Patterson, Hasim Rahman, Leon Spinks, and Michael Spinks.
I doubt if anyone here will agree with this list of 12. :D

i like baer a lot but i don't think he'll win from frazier or bowe. the rest of you're list i agree with you he'll have a real good chance against those guys. and unlike others i think he has a decent chance against marciano. marciano imo is a bit overrated

A focused Baer had the tools to beat 90% of all lineal champions on paper.
The problem is that he generaly wouldn't.
He would turn up focused ocasionaly and post a spectacular upset but in tmost of these fights he would be what he was in his own time.
An underachiever.

Prime Baer would lose to Louis,Marciano and Ali and Liston and Walcott, Charles but had a chance against many Patterson,Holmes,Tate,Weaver,Dokes,Thomas,Berbick,Ingomar,If we are talking about an in shape Baer but I am not counting him out vs the first batch, Baer still had a punchers chance but the odds would be against him

Exactly. I would pick him to beat Patterson, however. All it would take is one good shot. Leon Spinks is another one I'd definetely pick to lose to Baer. Oh, and let's not forget Rahman. He'd get pulverized by Baer.

Loses to Charles, Walcott, Marciano, Patterson, beats Ingo, loses to Liston, Ali, Frazier, Foreman, beats Leon Spinks, loses to Holmes, Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe, Lewis and both Klitscho brothers ... might beat a few of the alphabet guys from the 80's on a given night ...

I agree on Charles and Walcott. Marciano's perseverance would win this for him, likely winning on a TKO or a wide decision. Although Patterson would look good in this fight, Baer's right would likely win this for him. He loses to Liston, Frazier, Foreman (in an exciting, but short, slugfest). He likely beats Spinks, and loses to Holmes, Tyson and Holyfield. Probably drops a decision to Bowe. He loses against Lewis. Klitschko fights are a toss-up in my opinion. I think he could, if motivated, win either of those.
