1. Marco Antonio Barrera
2. Juan Manuel Marquez
3. Oscar De La Hoya (Not Mexican)
4. Erik Morales
If Marquez had beaten a better version of Barrera or won their fight more convincenly I would have had switched th two. Marquez can still pass Barrera as well as all the great Mexican boxers if he can beat Mayweather and the winner of Pacquaio/Cotto.

Hoya clearly no1 IMO.

I have settled on Morales being slightly ahead of Barrera but they are essentially on the same level IMO and you could argue that one either way.

Where Marquez sits however is a toughie...because how you see the Pac II fight, which from from the point of view any non-filipino seems widely accepted he edged out and IMO did, could change where you rank him. In fact depending on how you saw all of his losses and the first Pac fight could have even more of an impact.
Personally I reckon he clearly beat John but clearly lost the first Pac fight.

He will be one I will only really decide on when his career has been over for a couple of years.

You know, WhataRock...I agree with you!! I had just posted, and prior to that first cup of coffee, mind you, and I looked at the post..and though, "what's wrong with this picture"...I think I'll wake up first from now on before I post anything (lol)...let me revise that list
1. Marco Antonio Barrera (I was right there, IMO)
2. Oscar de la Hoya
3. Erik Morales
4. Juan Manuel Marquez
I think this is more reasonable...

DLH isn't technically Mexican, or does he have dual nationality? But anyway

1. MAB
2. DLH
3. Marquez
4. Morales

I realize too that there's a discrepancy there...hence ODLH's autobio named "An American Son"...

Marquez is better than Morales or Barrera ever were, IMO.

The loss to Pacquiao is an embarassing way to go out, but it doesn't take away from what Oscar accomplished prior. He was at least as skilled as the rest of them and more accomplished than any. I'll give him the edge over JMM.

I can tell you right now, that if Marquez beats Mayweather, that will be the one sign ificant accomplishment of JMM's that would put him at the top of my list...even at the expense of MBB, but Barrera will always be a favorite of mine for the humbing/schooling/classic boxing exhibitio he laid on Hamed. However, JMM would indeed be #1 if he beats Mayweather, a fighter I absolutely despise.

Yeah, I ignored the ODLH not being a Mexican and just rated hem on the basis of them being fighters of the same era.

De La Hoya
Barrera
Morales
Marquez

This is how I would rank them too, although Marquez can clearly leap frog a few places depending on how the rest of his career pans out.
