IMO...

He gets by with SD/Uds against halfway good competition. Fighters who had sh*tty losing records are mostly the ones he scored (T)KO's...

Talk is cheap .. but saying you want to fight Pac and calling him out isn't!

I don't think he would beat Pacquiao, Marquez, or Barrera, but I think he beats Soto and Valero. Make no mistake, he is one of the best at 130. A match with Jorge Linares would be interesting.

He is not a KO kinda fighter. So this isn't really relevant.

Not KOing people doesn't make you overrated.

Arce couldnt even fight Vic D. in his own division, do you really think he was gonna actually fight? So whats your point?

Do you guys realise that we haven't seen the best of Guzman yet? He clowns and toys with opponents far too much, fights their fight even at times when he ought to be wiping them out.

I think he'd take a fight with Pac or JMM more seriously. But I'd pick Pac over him this point, I think Joan would defeat JMM though.

If anything, he's underrated.

feel free to watch a Joan Guzman fight before commenting! He peppered that cheat Jorge Barrios all night long. The scores don't reflect the outcome, it was pretty one sided. He's not a knockout artist, so what? He's a winner and I can't wait for November 17. That said, I think Soto will win.

Exactly and he stupidly fought Barrios' fight in the process. 8-4 Guzman would have been an adequate score.

Describing his win over Barrios in the context shows a total lack of objectivity. That win can best be described as a schooling.

Guzman's stance is like Taylor's.

You deserve 20 lashes for comparing a great fighter in Guzman, to a disgrace like Taylor.:yep

I knew that would get you, but yeah their stances are alike.

Guzman reminds me a bit of a mini-James Toney with less tentativeness.

Well Arce is an extreme-counter example .. Didn't he admit that his latest whopping was justified b/c of his pre-fight trash talk... LOL what a jerk!

Whereas, JG a mild mannered fighter was making a candid call out, which holds a lot weigth IMO.

He reminds me of Ricky admitting he wasn't ready for Mayweather after his American premiere.

wow, hold up are we talking about jermain taylor??? because if we are there is no way u could compare guzman to taylor in any way esp. on what has been accomplish so far on both fighters careers....

last time i checked, you can with both by stoppage or points. a win is a win. therfore, guzman is not overrated due to the arguements that you gave.

i don't think anyone claims that guzman has one punch ko power in both hands, so no, he is not overrated. your way of thining is flawed

Yup. I had it 8-4. One judge had to have been scoring on aggressiveness alone because Guzman dominated.

Guzman would also beat up Willie Pep.

Arce called Pac out also... So what is your point?

The point is Pac is too chicken shit to take up the challenge and would rather fight people he's already beaten instead of getting in the ring with a man (Guzman) he knows would give him the kind of problems he's never faced before, even his own trainer Freddy 'the joke' Roach has admitted Pac doesn't want none of Guzzy :D .

Over rated? By whom? :think

He holds a belt and he is undefeated . . . that's all people knows about the guy. Casual boxing fans doesn't even know who this guy is. :D

 :good

Everybody wants to fight Pac just like I would like to fight Pac for $1M. :nut

The question is if they deserve it.

Joan shoud first get by Soto and force a fight with JMM or ValeroŽbefore we can really say that Pac should take the risk of fighting him.

Guzman isn't even rated that high in the boxing world, so I disagree that he is overrated. But he is a very good fighter, he needs a mega fight to show out.

I'm still pretty confident that Guzman will be exposed against a top level opponent. He has great defense, and he's extremely quick and can throw little flurries, but he absolutely seems to lack all of the intangibles you want in a fighter - a killer instinct, the ability to steal even rounds, and I also question his heart. Eventually he'll face someone with power and enough quickness to tag him, and he'll wilt like week-old lettuce. I don't know if Soto is that guy - he might not have enough quickness and angles to land cleanly on Guzman - but I'm confident that a Manny Pac or JMM would send him running all night long.

Guzman's stance is like Taylor's.Guzman has the reflexs to get out of the way of punches. Taylor doesn't even try.

Big difference.

I think we will all know if he is indeed either a hype job, an overrated boxer, or the real deal after his fight with Soto.

I was somehow impressed with his endurance and dominance of Barrios, who eventhough limited, is a big puncher.

Just some obversation: Guzman was not hit clean and hard by Barrios, and so i think that is the reason he won there. He knows how to evade punches, and Barrios being slow did obviously help.

Now, Soto is a different animal. He is also big and tall for 130, throws solid powerful combinations, and can box well if he wants.

I think of all the fights ths year, this is the most interesting to watch. You can not be sure who will win.

He is not rated anywhere within top 10 P4P so I wouldn't say he's overrated.

One thing is for sure though, he lack power at 130. He can land a lot of looping shots that although scores, doesn't seem to hurt his opponents,

He is definitly underrated. You dont see him mentioned in any top 10 p4p ratings, yet he is undefeated, champion in 3 weight classes and looks spectacular.
