He was stopped by Sam Hill, and looked like shit - which was about the third fight in a row since getting KO'd by Tito that he looked like shit. He'd had a falling out with his cornerman the day before the fight and then announced his retirement soon afterward.

Got Atm, but failed in the pros after Tito.
Just other case of the great ATM not being a great or in this case good pro.

It's funny how most people thought that Tito won that by knockout, but Tito did manage to knock him down 5 times throughout the fight.
Sam Hill when he beat Reid actually worked as a mailman.
I guess when Reid lost to somebody who's a part time fighter that's when he decided to call it quits.

How come no one's mentioned that his eye condition was really bad by the time he quit? Isn't he blind in one eye now. . . . . .

It is my understanding that Reid had an eye problem even when he won the Olympics. Something his pro handlers knew. Which is why he was fighting for a championship after just 11 pro fights. His career was never going to last all that long even if Felix Trinidad ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) and Sam Hill ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) never beat him.
If you look at the scorecards and consider that he got KD 5 times against Trinidad...he did pretty well!!
But he and his handlers knew his eye was deteriorating and that's why they went for the big fight so early. I think without the eye condition he wouldn't have been rushed into the Tito fight, and could have been a really successful pro. He was skilful, no doubting that!!!

his left eyelid lost elasticity after he was thumbed in the ams. it wouldnt be long before he would only have 1 eye to use so it was a fast track and of course no learning curves.
i think he wasnt goign to make any more cash in the ams so turned pro as soon as he had the chance.
