As Ricky Hatton prepares to take on Jose Luis Castillo tonight on HBO, Hatton firmly believes a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr should happen. Outside of a rematch with Oscar De La Hoya, Hatton feels he is Mayweather's best bet for a big money fight. Hatton has a strong and impressive fan base from his homeland, the UK, and popularity continues to grow in America.

However, at the weigh in for tonight's fight, Leonard Ellerbe, lead adviser to Floyd Mayweather Jr, made it clear what team Mayweather thinks about Hatton, dissing Hatton for being a "Joke" and "Overrated."

Ellerbe also indicated that he was not impressed with Hatton's fan base.

"Ricky Hatton is a joke," said Leonard Ellerbe, who was quoted by the media.

Ellerbe then added to his statement, saying:

"He's highly overrated as a fighter. I can understand why he is trying to align himself with Floyd, with the best there is, but you have to bring more to the table than a great following."

Ellerbe explained why he wasn't impressed with Hatton's fan base, stating:

"To bring that many fans over from Europe is great for boxing. But this guy isn't a household ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) name outside of England. No one knows him."

"You can't take him seriously. His focus should be on Jose Luis Castillo."

Team Mayweather is severly delusional !! The fans that came from the UK are probably twice the size of Mayweathers ' fan base !!

According to team Floyd, and Leonard Ellerbe (the back massage man), nobody brings enough to the table for Floyd.

Cotto is a good little fighter. Hatton is a joke.

Yep, we shouldnt even make the fights, cause Floyd wins em all. No need to even carry out the act. :-(

Funny how they came to this conclusion after they fought Oscar..They really need a reality check no one will get him what Oscar brings to the table but that doesn't mean he should not take on more significant challenges!

Everyone who's ever fought Oscar has fought on to do bigger and better things..I think its just shows the level of maturity and professionalism displayed by team May sucker!

Ellerbe is a yes man and a mouth piece. Floyd has his whole camp in the mentality he wants them. Read this manure that Roger comes out with on the ESB interview.

By challenging Hatton or Cotto he would at least challenge a young lion not an old legend.

gayweather and his team are prob the most hated lot in boxing. He has the talent but its a shame that he is a big asshole, that goes for his entire entourage aswell.

I know many will disagree with me but Hatton has unique (not very pleasing for our eyes) style, I have to say that he might have a chance against floyd becouse of his hiting and holding, that kind of shit realy frustrates oponent.
But I see what floyd tries to do, he's becoming more and more popular (negative way) by insulting other fighters and even their fans. Good buissnes.

Team Mayweather can just shut up on the side line. Their fighter is "retired" so no need to be insecure. :yep :yep :yep

If PBF is as big a star as he claims to be, he should be able to make big PPV $$$ regardless of who he fights. When is he gonna stop riding his opponents jock straps and start carrying some fights himself?

Your probably jealous of the rubdowns that Ellerbe gets to give Floyd. Just keep working hard, smalltime, and one day you will get to apply the cocoa butter yourself.

I am going to say this. Both of them are kind of dirty and frustrating in different ways. Hatton pushes his opponents head down and traps their lead arm with astonishing regularity and I would have deducted a point from him. Mayweather uses his elbow too much to push off, sometimes in an opponents face, uses his off hand to obscure an opponents vision while delivering a punch, and back pedals with great speed. The difference is that Maweathers tactics are marginally more legal than Hattons and should probably not get a point deducted, whereas Ricky overuses his tactics ad nauseum.

Mayweather is wrong for Hatton. Hatton will come forward and Mayweather will be backing up and using his longer reach. Mayweather can fight excellently backing up. At 147-154 especially Mayweather just carries that weight better with his taller frame. The first fight with Castillo was a combination of new weight class, torn rotator cuff, hurt ribs, hurt hand, and a marginally off night for pretty boy, but Hatton has had bad nights too, against the lightly regarded Collazo, for example. Pretty boy simply won't stand there and take the shots that Castillo did, and he is as fleet of foot as hatton, even if it is in reverse gear.

I would really like to see how PBF deal with Hatton's suffocating offense. Hatton is very strong and can maintain the pace for full 12 rounds.

you mean hatton's holding..easy footwork and jab hatton doesn't move his head when he comes in so a counter left hook and right hook will do him in easy. hatton will be easy work.

Yea, like that habitual elbow to the neck and throat.

Yea, like that habitual elbow to the neck and throat.

thus the word marginally. the elbow is illegal but he does not use it as frequently as Hatton pushes his opponents head down with his holding hand while hitting with the other. Holding and hitting with impunity as Hatton often does is more disturbing than the occasional elbow Mayweather sneaks in when he creates distance - it isn't a hard UFC type elbow, but one that pushes an opponent back so he can fire up the middle in the space created.

Don't get me wrong though, both are dirty as hell. I just think Hattons dirty tactics are more damaging to his opponent and even more overlooked by refs in addition to occurring the ENTIRE time he fights. Floyd had a point taken away for elbowing Castillo, I believe. Nothing happened to Hatton, who continued his dirty fight until the end.

To be fair, Trinidad, Cotto, Hopkins, and Zab are all dirty, as is Barrera, who will fire 1-2-headbutt combinations if frustrated. It comes with fighting.

I have seen hopkins head butt an opponent in the groin before, too, as he pretended to duck to sneak in a looping over the body right hand.

:rofl

Who was that against?

It wasn't too long ago - I'm thinking it might be Eastman but I need to watch the fight again. I just remember rewinding it a few times and snickering with the sheer audacity. Hopkins changes levels when he throws the overhand shot and he brought his head right into the guys trunks hard, then followed it up with that looping right he throws over his head and hides from visibility behind his left shoulder.

When he fought the guy before Trinidad, Holmes, he would push his knees up in between Holmes' legs and step in and out quickly to try and abrade his inner thighs and ruin his legs. Hopkins always does subtle MMA type stuff and he is good at hiding it from the ref by doing it on the other side.

Hatton, Cotto and perhaps Mosley would all be great additions to Mayweathers resume. If he can get past those 3 he's the ducks nuts.

Ok, so Hatton is an easy fight, lets move on.... what about Cotto? hum...:think no chance, PBF will destroy him, PBF is not Judah therefore Cotto will be swinging thin air the whole night, he wouldn't even know what to do against PBF speed.....am I right? So, who's next :think Margo, yeap, another overrated fighter, and he dosn't deserve a shot at PBF anyway, and he doesn't bring anything to the table, am I right? So lets move on again, who's next :think Mosley.... hhummm, he had his chance back then, and he did avoid PBF, so why to waste time in fighting him now? Besides, Mosley is/was only DLH's sparring partner.....so lets move on, who's next......hummmm, I guess nobody.

So lets try 154.....who is in that division, that we can say is worth fighting PBF......Spinks.....no, he is too boring, besides, Judah knocked him out. This is a waste of time.....:think I know who's the best candidate ... DLH, yeap, he is the one, and make more sense. Bring him on :bbb :yep

ellerbe gets paid to give floyd head. what he said in that piece is pure BS hattons fan base is probably twice that of floyd. floyd cant even sell out in his home town.
