So then who wins this? Fury is 1/5 to win this on Paddy Power. Do you think it will be easy for him as the bookies are making out?
EastLondonDan
09-08-2009, 09:48 AM
I think Fury wins, but at 1/5, I wouldn't touch that, not as an away fighter, what's the saying, you're one punch away from a K.O. and seeing that I don't think anyone has ever landed anything on Fury since he has been pro (I've no idea what his record or pedigree in the am's was like), taking a 1/5 doesn't seem good value, those are the sort of odds you'd get on Man United beating Hull at Old Trafford!
For what it's worth, my guess would be Fury by stoppage in the 7th......but I won't bet on it!!!

Ha ha, was going to say apart from the uppercut he landed on himself!
Serious though, anyone know if he does have a good jaw?

Please let John be the one to show this overhyped Fury for the poor amateur fighter he is. The guy still leans back from punches with his eyes shut! Anyone who throws more than a 3 punch combo will humiliate him. But is that McDermott?? Probably not. But lets see him fight Price.

Fury to stop him in around the last 3 rounds.

When the fight was announced I thought it was a step too far for Fury. Having watched McDermott since I dont think it's going to be as big a leap.
I think that the question is going to be how much gas Fury has in the tank. This is scheduled for 10 rounds, has Fury been past 4 yet?
It's conceivable that Fury could knock him out in three, just as he could win a wide UD. But I dont think it's unrealistic that McDermott could take him to school in the later rounds. Hard one to judge for me this. I initially went McDermott, I'm now edging towards Fury but I really do think it's a coin toss.
Appreciate Fury's approach of staying active and fighting decent level opposition, not sure he'll be the future of the division but I suppose it's good that he's around. It at least gets us talking!

I think Fury wins in about 4 or 5 rounds, i think Mcdermott will go for broke early and try knock him out and if he doesnt Fury will take over the fight.

Doug, thats what galls me...we were a corrupt deducted point away from that overweight disgrace getting his hands on a Lonsdale Belt, hence the embarassment. The bloke has obviously got a hell of an engine because he can go the full 12 hefting 4-5 stone of excess blubber around with him. Seriously, if he dropped the weight I reckon he could make cruiser, and be half decent.

He must have been reading your posts.
Apparently he is very upset with the criticism he receives, and has come out swinging, stating that he trains as hard as anyone and can keep up with middleweights on the pavement.
As you say he has one hell of an engine - but what must he be eating?
I might watch the Williams fights again, just to listen to the anger and blatant nuthuggery going on, for the mad laugh.

To be honest I think McDermott is one of those people who is never gonna look good. As has been said though he's got an engine on him, if it goes to the later rounds could cause problems for Fury??

Quotes taken from Larry Olubamiwo who posts on boxrec about the weigh-in:
"fury came in at 17st 9lbs which is his lightest ever and did look in better shape than previous fights and john was the lightest he has been for a long time. I think he was 18st 1lb."
"both seem confident which is crucial for mcdermot as he has been known to bottle it on occasion before the fight but he seems really up for it. In his interview for sky, he said that fury calling him mcmuffin was the worse thing he could have done as that really made him train hard and he does look better than he has ever looked. he also said that he gives all his opponents respect and that fury hasn't done anything yet unlike Danny Williams. Fury was his usual arrogant self, when they asked them to both look at the camera, when john looked at the camera fury stood infront of him and kept eyeballing him and stood him he was gonna get knocked out. John then said he was gonna knock him out."

247 is more like it from Fury but still a good half stone too heavy, though I doubt it will matter much against McDermott, who at 253 is a good two stone over what he ought to (and could easily) be.

Fury with ease. McDermott is always horribly out of condition. I know boxing isn't a 'who's got the best physique contest' but McDermott's awful condition would indicate he doesn't train anywhere near hard enough and/or has a terrible diet.

McDermott's body language (no pun intended I'm referring to when he 'said his bit') doesn't exude confidence IMO.
Fury is still funny as fuck and I'm rooting for him all the way. He's a right lad, right up for it and you know he will go for it when under pressure. He just doesn't seem like the kind of guy who will back down if hurt. Whether he can TAKE IT is another matter entirely. It's all good being brave. But it sounds stupid but he 'looks' like he has a good chin. Big head I guess (also a big target)
Larry seems a nice guy.
Ashley Sexton looks a right nobhead, doesn't sound or look like a fighter. Isn't he a super-fly? If he wants the big fights chuck Jason Booth in with him (he can still make super-fly apparently) to teach him not to run his mouth off.
Fury; funny, has charm.
Sexton; gormless and twatty,

McDermott just doesn't look 'right' - not just in terms of the shape he is in, but his demeanour.
The quick chat then was a bit like the Audley Harrison interview after the Rogan fight, repeating himself all the time.

Hope Fury wins, by knockout.
McDermott is a good opponent to have at this stage, but if Fury is to have serious ambitions in the division he'll need to look good here.
If McDermott wins, he'll angle for a third go-around with Williams, but while fairly close they were also two pretty bad fights as well, and we'd also lose an undefeated prospect in Fury.
So better if Fury wins it emphatically. Put the pressure on McDermott early and keep it on until he falls, don't let rounds drift by.

Yep, it was never screened (I wonder why :yep), but I was there - he started well enough, then he just gassed and got outboxed. I gave it to Peret by 2-3 points in a 6 rounder. Apparently he has lost some weight which is good, and hopefully he works on pacing himself.

Wow lot of people going for Fury to win by KO, remember even Danny Williams found it hard to rock this man of kebab fat. If its goes past 6 then McDermott can take Fury into into unknown waters, should be a good test for Fury.

Williams to coin a Roach phrase - 'can't pull the trigger anymore'.
It took him seven to get rid of Airich a while back, and could barely put a dent in Sosnowski, whose record is seriously padded.

I hope fury Ko's him. Nothing annoys me more than fat Hw's that don't seem to care about getting in shape. How does Mcdermott expect us to believe he runs better than middleweights. If they were following a trail of pukka pies then i could beleive him but theres noway this guy trains as hard as he should.

Ah now lets be fair to Sexton, it seems like he's getting stick here just because he looks like a hairdresser. What he said wasn't really that cocky.
He's a Flyweight aswell, not a Super-Flyweight fleaman so any talk of fighting Jason Booth(who's now fighting at Super-Bantamweight anyway) is redundant. He'd probably beat Chris Edwards and anyone else at British Flyweight level at the moment. Super-Flyweight is a bit tougher, Haskins would probably be too much at the moment.

Dunno, doesn't matter really as I doubt he'll be getting a serious test if he does fight.
McDermott MIGHT actually hit Fury for the first time in his career. He has a sneaky uppercut, remember the one he hit Williams with and should have finished him? If Fury can be tagged by his own...
But alas, I see Fury coming through. Purely on confidence as much as anything. Fury believes he's the greatest thing since sliced bread, or at least Larry Holmes, McDermott fights scared.

Well, the result ended up being almost the worst possible thing that could have happened for Fury, short of getting knocked out.
Worse than actually losing a points decision arguably, because this way you'll have people saying he's being over-favoured.
