Georges Carpentier vs Antonio Tarver; who takes this one? Does Tarver reproduce the form he found in the 2nd Jones fight? Or does Carpentier take it?
Sorta' interesting this one, don't think Tarver was exceptional, but will Carpentier, a naturally smaller guy (although fairly tall) get his dues?
12 rounds. No reason, no vote :good

Maybe I'm in the minority here but I like Carpentier. I was never really up on Tarver, thought he would gas early in a fight. I like Carpentier's very sharp punching, not to mention his workrate. Carpentier on decision.

Tarver was always a "rematch" fighter who seemed to almost require a full fight with a guy before figuring him out and doing better the second time around; in a one and done tourney like this, that's about the worst kind of attribute to have though it served him well in his actual career. I like Carpentier outworking him and getting a decision, personally.

Tarver narrowly ekes out a decision over Georges.

It's a difficult call. It's possible that Tarver establishes the jab and takes it home, but it's also very possible that Carpentier could get rugged and take it home that way on that night. I'll take Carpentier.

Im not high on Tarver at all...but he holds to many physical advantages at this weight.
And I dont think Georges has the necessary skillset to overcome this..He will just try to bang and wrestle the fight from the bigger man.
I think he will have a surprising amount of success doing it...Because Tarver is a shameless coaster, who seems easily discouraged. But I think in the long run he lands the cleaner, more effective blows and he stops Carpentier later on.
Its tough though because of the era difference...It Antonio was in Georges era then Im not sure what would happen.

Well ok, then. I think Carpentier would win because he would punch Antonio Tarver harder and more often than Tarver punched him.

If Carpentier makes it through the first five I think he takes this. Tarver seems to me to not like pressure. Not that he's scared of getting hit (IMO) but as others have noted, he likes to fight at his own pace/coast.
I think Carpentier does survive Tarvers early sharp-shooting and outpunches him down the stretch.
7-5 Carpentier.

tarver takes the the first six rounds then starts to cruise letting carpentier into the fight but tarver hangs on to get an unpopular split decision win

I'd second that.
If the fight is still going on at the midway point, Carpentier takes this - Tarver's sparring partner approach in the 2nd half of the fight will cost him rounds, and ultimately the decision.

stupid question.
tarver for sure.
maybe 2nd jones fight , maybe 3rd.
tarver is big for 175.
carpentier wasn't.
tarver won most of his high profile fights , especially in his prime.
carpentier lost most of his high profile fights.
somehow i can count on the tickman to choose carpentier out of the two.

Its not a stupid question frankenfrank...more knowledgable posters then you have picked Carpentier.
Georges never got dropped, beat up and had his jaw broken by a fighter the calibre of Eric Harding in his prime.

Tarver UD - Tarver's underrated, fast hands, tricky southpaw, very rangy, excellent jabber, KO power in the left hand. From 2000-2006 was a BIG force and hit the highest level at 175 beating 1 of the best ever (past prime). Plus he was robbed against Johnson, really schooled him twice and beat many contenders
I see the jab and speed controlling the fight and winning the UD for Tarver
