I don't think that the outcome of this fight would be disputed too much, but damn this would make for one hell of an action packed fight while it lasted.:bbb

A waste of thread space lol.
Liston K.O 1 without being hit back, throws the jab, hooks follow it, Morrison is gone.

Morrison was a very good heavyweight...for about three rounds. He had very good power in his left and set up his punches nicely at times. Thing is, his weak chin and stamina issues usually short-circuited his good starts against better oppositon.
Liston shouldn't have much trouble putting him away. Liston inside 5 rounds.

In the second round Morrison rocks Liston with a left hook. 13 seconds later Liston knocks Morrison out cold with his jab.

No , Morisson Will be KO'd from the heart atack he caught at the stare-down. only fighters who were born pre 1950 could withstand sonny's stare.

almost correct.
it would probably take liston about 13 seconds in all.then he'd be stood in broken glass

This could be a great fight...Used to love Morrison when I first started following boxing, he is that kind of fighter thats appealing to the casual fan..He was good fun to watch.
Unfortunately Liston (the cunt) spoils the party...Not only does the fight last less then 6 mins..we dont get to see Morrison in the ring for a year given his neck brace needs to be on for at least 20 weeks...and he will need about 4 operations from the doctor that did this.

Other then that...great fight.

Probably very similar to the Williams fights. Unless Morrison lands the perfect left hook, he's toast and not seeing the 5th round.

Well if it means anything to you, i'd pick him to win a split decision over todays Nate Campbell as well!

Not to hi-jack the thread, but how about Cleveland Williams against Tommy Morrison?

See: Morrison vs Ruddock, but with an "open" ending? I would say Morrison has a small edge in power, whereas Williams has the better right hand and jab, as well as stamina. I'm not so sure those will come into play much, though. Williams probably is better overall, but not more proven, and it's head to head it's pretty much a toss-up.

very bad match-up. liston turns morrison into minch-meat very early most likely knocking him out no later than the 2nd. Morrison lacked the defense neccessary to consistently elude listons blows and he would not hurt liston with anything that he landed.

I cannot picture this fight being competitive in any way. Morrison simply didn't have the durability or the defensive skill to survive long against Liston. Liston would have taken control with his left jab and finished matters early.
A better high-action, early-ending fight for Morrison would have been against Earnie Shavers. I pick Shavers to win this fight early, but in this case, Morrison would at least have had a chance of landing the first big punch and scoring a shock upset. No such luck for Morrison against Liston, however.

Morrison had a punchers chance against any heavy who ever lived. This is a fact. Against Sonny, that would be a slim- albeit real- chance. Skill approaching Sonny's level usually overtook Morrison sooner or later. Still, when speaking of the real power Morrison had, nothing is certain.
Per comments above, Morrison was heads and shoulders above Cleveland Wiliams, a real fraud amongst sentimental dolts in these parts. He also would KO Shavers in 8 out of 10 times. He hit about magnitudes harder than Quarry and could box really well for a few rounds before his stamina gave out completely.

What kinda question is this? Liston woulda sent Tommy to the ICU in under 3 rounds.

I can't help but feel Morrison is really unappreciated sometimes. He had his flaws and was carefully managed throughout his career, but he did actually have some good skills.
I would agree that he beats Shavers, who had a huge punch but not much else.
