Interesting poll from Sherdog.

As it stands right now, its 59-41 to UFC.

Let's see what our forums think.

Vitor Belfort

mayweather-marquez - im a big ufc fan and im a vitor belfort fan but im watching mayweather-marquez on sept 19. I think boxing will sell more this time just cuz of the big names that are fighting.

Belfort-Franklin is a good fight but they're fight is not as big as mayweather-marquez.

Love him or hate him, the Mayweather come back should be big news to any big boxing fan.I dont understand why people take it sooo personaly with Floyd. Floyd is a fighter first in the eyes of the fans. He's one of the best talents in the history of the sport. Thats all that matters. This is a very solid comebacking fight. Iv got a feeling its going to be boring though as both men are counter punchers. Stylistically this says 12 round bore to me. Unless Floyd goes on the front foot and is looking to walk Marquez down..

its gonna be close and gbp and the ufc will probably lie about their figures, the most intriguing fight of the night is mayweather marquez, the ufc will be event of the night because they can put on shows and fight of the night will be katsidis escobeda

Do both events clash in the same time slot?
personally I would watch both events and pay for both PPV's.

It all began when Floyd started to play the good/bad guy depending on who he was fighting. This made people love and hate him as well as make him mainstream.

Floyd's been off for two years and is facing the 2nd best P4P fighter in the world on his comeback. This is irrefutable proof that if you hate him, no matter who he fights it'll be personal to them.

this will not be close....it will be a 3-1 blowout in favor of boxing......this is not like dana white to make a statement like this......its usually boxing that says something negative about mma this time its ufc trashing boxing.....it shows to me that white knows ufc is about to get crushed, and this was his appeal not to the casual fan, but the hardcore ufc fan to get as many of the "base" to tune in.....because boxing has focused its marketing on the casual fan...

3-1 blowout for mayweather-marquez of ufc......

I think we also have to remember that these two are two of the best p4p fighters in the world going up against Franklin and Belfort.

What if it was Mayweather/Marquez vs GSP/Silva?

I picked Marquez Mayweather, but I wouldn't be surprised if I'm wrong. The UFC seems to be building a reliable fan base that are purchasing almost monthly regardless of what names are on the card. Where I live, I hear more and more people speaking of UFC events like it's their monthly ritual.

dana white is so full of shit, he offered fedor crap load of money and fedor said "fuck you" not to ufc, but to dana white, fedor knows better not to business with him.....

and roy jones is not helping the cause by hyping up anderson silva....

mma is ufc......they have there other organisations, but white knows mma business, and his goal is to put those companies out of business, then he will really go after boxing....

but sorry dana looked like a scared puppy dog in that fake presser of his.....

i hate mma and ufc,but i follow it just to see what white and co. will say and do next....

You were still drawn into this MMA forum though. I sense you are getting interested in buying the UFC 103 PPV ,jeffrey.
On fight night you will be glued to the TV cheering for your hero Mirko cro cop.

i hardly ever post in the mma forum, but the white comments and his past few comments since march have pissed me off

Over here in the UK the UFC events are always free (never PPV).
Though mayweather v marquez is PPV. Just that I would have to stay up until 5am to watch it.

Ok, I guess 1 less UFC ppv buy. I think Dana can take the hit.

The reality of it all is that both will have numbers far below what they should have had.Boxing shot itself in the foot by going head to head with the UFC.It was totally unecessary but thats the way GBP rolls.
To answer the question, the UFC will have the sizeable edge in PPV buys and especially in the bars, where the UFC is outselling boxing by 100 to 1.

myweather has been inactive for 20 months marquez is number 2 behind pac they are not the 2 best

gsp silva gets shit on by pac floyd prob by at least 750,000 more buys

as for next weekend, worldwide marquez mayweather will be watched by millions more people

Franklin-Belfort will probably pull in a little less than 400,000 - the usual for a Franklin headlined PPV. The hardcore fans will buy a Franklin show, but the bandwagon fan isn't impressed enough to pony up; and Belfort is a bit past sell date at this time to grow the usual numbers up much more.

I think Boxing will do a bit more but they wont dominate by any means. The UFC card is a very good one but its not stacked with superfights and great draws. The matchup im really intrigued about is Pac/Cotto on the same night as Brock/Carwin and Tito/Coleman since Tito and Brock are 2 of the biggest draws in MMA.

Tito is the Mike Tyson of MMA. You could put him in there with Steve Jennum and people would buy it.

UFC fights are too easy to find on the internet immediately after, so I only buy BJ Penn, GSP, Anderson or any other GREAT cards.

Pretty much but so is Brock look at the PPV numbers for his 4 UFC bouts the last 2 which had him headlining with Couture and then in July which was the biggest PPV ever its like ok maybe you can say its not all on him. But for his first fight with Frank that wasnt a huge card but sold big and the one with Herring where it wasnt exactly stacked with the bigtime draws it still sold big. I cant imagine boxing beating Brock Lesnar and Tito Ortiz.

I'll have to go with Mayweather/Marquez. It's definitely a bigger draw than Franklin/Belfort although I'm very interested in that fight.

I've been thinking the same thing - but there's a part of me that wonders if Floyd won't come out looking to make a statement resulting in something that looks like a combination of Mayweather/Gatti and round one of the first Pacquiao/Marquez fight. Needless to say - if this is the case - there won't be a round two.

Its cheaper for a bar to put on a UFC ppv.. and they will generally get a larger crowd.

The UFC will win the night..

Marquez aint no Gatti.

Of course, you're correct - but what I'm saying is that the difference in weight could make the outcomes of the two fights strikingly similar. In other words - Mayweather is bigger, stronger, and FASTER. If he wants to - he'll just blast Marquez into the canvas in 90 seconds.

I really hope Marquez batters Floyd because I hate his ass - but I don't see it happening.

I don't think it's going to be a close contest. Boxing will trump MMA that night. At this stage MMA will have a hard time competing with Boxing big names. But in the future, MMA will out do Boxing or at least equal it.

This adds extra spice to the proceedings. I cant wait to see the final PPV figures. Im told that the boxing event isnt doing too well with the ticket sales.
