Could Vargas beat the El Radar that beat Duran?

Of course not. I'm not that big on Vargas to be honest, but even if you're an admirer I think you'd be hard pressed to pick him against Benitez.

I think it's possible. Neither Benitez nor Duran were natural 154 lbers. Could see it going either way. But I'll lean slightly toward Benitez.

Benitez would be too much for Vargas...never too impressed with Vargas anyway.

Vargas' best bet would be in catching Benitez during a time when he was too arrogant to train and get caught a couple times a la Bruce Curry.

Vargas was for the most part matched against guys who would stand in with him. His handlers had to bite the bullet against DLH and Trinidad of course, and that wasn't gonna be easy any way you cut it, and he had real issues against that boring left-handed guy, forget his name.........
In other words, if you weren't going to stand and punch with him and were any good, he wasn't going to beat you. He stands virtually no chance here.

I think Vargas would be eating counters all night. Benitez might stop him actually.

By a score of 150-135 x 3, the winner is Benitez.
I think it is sometimes forgotten what a great fighter Benitez was - absolutely magnificent at his best.

Benitez by KO easy. Vargas was no Duran, even the January 1982 version. Benitez would TOY with him and then KO the ptretty boy.

Pre-Tito Vargas gets sold short a little on this board.
I dont think he wins nor really comes all that close...but I reckon he matches a little better here than most are saying.
