Soderbergh and MMA Actress Set to 'Knockout' Audiences
Steven Soderbergh's latest film The Informant! just premiered at the Venice Film Festival a few days ago and will open in wide release starting on September 18th, but the writer/director is already busy on his next project. Variety ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) reports Soderbergh will next direct the spy thriller Knockout which will also see the feature film debut of Gina Carano (seen above), a mixed martial arts circuit fighter. The story (which is said to be a flat out action movie in James Bond fashion) follows a tough girl from the wrong side of the tracks who takes the opportunity to use a special set of skills in a more focused, constructive environment.
Soderbergh discovered Carano on the MMA circuit, taking note of action-star toughness and her ravishing good looks. But Soderbergh knows that a pretty unknown face leading an action thriller can only go so far, and he intends to surround the newcomer with plenty of name actors in supporting roles. The script was written by Lem Dobbs ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) (who previously wrote The Limey and Kafka for Soderbergh)y. Cameras are set to roll in January, with filming locations in the US, Turkey and Ireland. I'll be very interested to see who Soderbergh gets to support this rookie actress, and pray that she doesn't fight any of them. Sound good?

You said it...she's dealt out many ass whippings on other girls, but getting her own features rearranged and being brain damaged is not for her!! She's got the star quality and all the other stuff that goes with it besides having a great body, esp. great legs and feet. She'll do fine in the movies, or even tv stuff.

When you say "love" just exactly what kind of "love" are we talkin' about? Are we talkin' two girls, tucked away somewhere private, one braiding the other's hair as she prepares for a fight, maybe sharing a couple of innocent kisses, a warm embrace even . . . perhaps a night of unbridled (and professionally recorded) passion? Or are we talkin' "I like what this person does, she seems cool, thumbs up from me" kind of love?

Girl, you just don't know. I'll willingly take a 2 season departure from ESB to witness that. Right now my as I'm typing my monitor is rocking back and forth like it was equipped w/ a Rumble Pak and I'm merely just thinking about it. If it was to actually take place on film . . . sheeeeeit.
Although I'm adamantly against women fighting, did you/will you start training in judo again?

hehe she's 5'7 & 140 pounds if i remember right...that's huge compared to me. i'd be scared of doing something wrong and having to dodge punches and kicks on the way out the door!
judo is pretty safe. there's no hitting, it's just grappling and trying to out maneuever your opponent onto the mat. it's a popular martial art for girls for this reason. i started practicing it in my pre/early teens and did well as a junior the time i was there but had to give it up b/c i hurt my elbow after being taken down to the mat once. i'd probably be better at it now b/c the dancing and yoga i've done all these years has increased my core strength and made me more flexible and limber. i'd have to get a little stronger esp. the arm i hurt even tho. in judo proper balance and technique overcomes pure strength...strength can help a lot if it's used intelligently. i'd love to do it again and have wanted to for a while it's just a matter of finding time between school, work and osme other hobbies i have

I see her as an ideal Lara Croft. Her personality and looks scream for that role IMO
And Toxic Angel would probably pass out if she heard of news like that.

a fighting role would seem like a natural fit but sometimes it doesn't work out. it's still exaggerated and the person has to act. i once saw a foreign movie with a fighter turned actor and it was just awful b/c the acting was so bad the and fight scenes looked bad.

Does anyone think this will be anything other than terrible? If its anything to go by in her role in Blood n Bone then it will be a pile of shit. Carano is a pretty face. But she has as much personality as a can of paint.
