View Full Version : Cotto vs. Hatton at 140lbs.
Lets do this one as a contrast to the 147lb thread, and to be fair to Hatton who is a natural 140lb fighter. Right now Cotto is way ahead in the 147lb thread.
This fight is much harder to pick, Cotto seemed more vulnerable at 140lbs and could not use his strength as much. Also, Hatton seems to run over most anything at 140lbs. I still tend to favor Cotto, but Im not too sure, I will hold out and hear both sides of the arguement.
Anyways, discuss!

If this fight was made at 140, I think Cotto would be really drained and very weak. He would be more vulnerable, have significantly less strength, and have less stamina, so I would go with Hatton by decision or maybe a late TKO if he comes fully prepared and ready - which for Cotto, I'm sure he would.

Cotto seems FAR more vulnerable at 140. He looks like a god damned KO waiting to happen. He also didn't look as strong.
I voted Cotto in the other thread, like most people, and I'd guess that it was by a brutal KO. Hatton doesn't carry his power up to 147, whereas Cotto is stronger at 147. Cotto doesn't take a punch as well at 140, and Hatton's relentlessness would probably bring about a KO.
It's weird. 147 Cotto KOs Hatton. At 140 Hatton KOs Cott.
How awesome would a catchweight of 144 be?

Thats a convincing arguement. I could see Hatton starting quickly, with Cotto coming on strong in the middle rounds, but Hatton withstanding the charge and getting a late decision.
Cotto really is a different, more punishing fighter at 147lbs.

Agreed...At 147, I think he would bust Hatton up like never before.

Its not like Cotto hasn't been hurt though, he's a great fighter but he's far from invincible. Hatton gives anyone at welter nightmares, including mosley, pbf and cotto.

I think the outcome would be Cotto failing to make weight .
Do the people picking him here realise how drained he was in his last few fights at 140 . Imagine what he's like now , over a year later and having moved his body up a division which it has settled into .
If he made the weight he'd be knocked out and you can be 100% certain of that .
At 147 Cotoo has to be a huge favourite .
However 143/144 is the real question , because that's a catchweight at which a fight between them should be fought .

i think at 140 hatton would be able to handle cotto and stop him late......his in fighting and clinching would wear cotto down and cotto also wouldnt be as able to setup for his big body shots. def a totally different fight than if it were at 147

Cotto at 140 pounds was a weaker, more vulnerable fighter. That extra 7 pounds made a huge difference. For one, against Quintana he seemed to get stronger as the fight moved along, whereas at 140 pounds he seemed to fade a bit late.
Hatton's hands are quicker, he's faster on his feet and would consistantly beat Cotto to the punch and rip shots to his body for a decision win.
at 140, hatton would win, but since cotto can't make the weight anymore, that would be irrelevent. at 147, where the fight would happen at, cotto wins by brutal knockout. he's too strong at 147, and hatton has shown not to be that strong at welterweight. he would get a few shots in, but i like cotto to stop him mid to late rounds.

Cotto at 140 is like James Toney at middleweight sure in hell can't make the weight no more. That time was in the past in a few year he maybe can't make 147 to so if they fight is at 147 no other weight, Hatton is not a small jr welterweigt is a very big one is almost a welter so this hatton is a natural jr welter is just bias because he struggle with Collazo. Let him fight Cotto at 147 ot at least a cath weight 145 for cotto title. He will pound Hatton and win by tko.
Looks like Hatton gets some vindication in this thread. :good

Hatton would get the KO within 6 rds at 140(if they had fought 2003-2006). Not so at 147, Cotto would KO Hatton within 10

Hatton would win a UD like 8-4 at 140, and i think Cotto would probably win by the same margin at 147.

My mistake @ 140 Cotto may be a little to drained to fight the way he needs to.
