ANTHONY Mundine is preparing for a December return to the ring, and the cocky Australian isn't worried about whether or not his eye sight will return. "I'm fighting in December baby, my eye is coming along fine. But even if it isn't quite right I'm still going to go ahead with this because thats what it's all about - boxing."

Mundine, the WBA champion after Mikkell Kessler was awarded super-champion status suffered a severe eye infection which led to the champion boxer being partially blinded and bed ridden for 10 days. "It was very frustrating man. I've always been active my whole life, it sent a real scare through me, but I've come out of it stronger, and all the better for it."

The former rugby star wasn't at a loss for words when asked about his thoughts on his long time rival's (Danny Green) next fight. "Green's been calling out Tarver, Beyer, and myself. Tarver's not as good as he used to be, so I don't see the value in him fighting someone like him. Beyer's already beaten him twice, and he's retired, so thats not gunna happen either."

Mundine is due to fight French slugger, Thierry Karl in Woolongong in December. This will be the French star's second appearance outside of his home town, and first to Australia. "Whoever they put in front of me, I'll just knock em down." Mundine said.

"Thats what I do man, I'm a warrior. I want to cherish this belt and I want to be ready mentally, physically, every time I fight to defend my crown.''

The Mundine camp has also been in serious negotiations with Mikkell Kessler about a possible rematch fight should Kessler be victorious in his next fight with Welsh WBO champion, Joe Calzaghe. "Kessler's next after this for sure. He's gotta fight me next year or he'll lose his title. He knows it, I know it, it's life. It's probably better for him he avoids me, that way he'll still keep his 0 next to his name, but I'm coming after him."

Tickets for the fight are expected to go on sale in mid October.

Mundine can say what ever he wants. The doctors will not let him fight if he can't see out of one of his eye.

Thierry Karl??? How the fuck can Mundine get away with fighting such nobodies/losers in title fights? How can WBA allow this twice in a row? This is even worse than Nievas, but I guess WBA has realised Mundine equals big money, but they should still be ashamed of themselves for allowing a beltholder to fight such ridiculous weak opposition. This makes even Calzaghes easiest opponents look like worldbeaters.:-(

Karl is not even a SMW!

Because he fights dangerous guys like Nievas and now Karl. Those guys make Tarver look like a nobody.:rofl

Boxing with only one good eye would seriously diminish your ability to judge distance wouldn't it?

sounds crazy to go up against ANY top competition if you've got that sorta problems.

yeah your totally right - it would affect his depth perception and for a guy who relies heavily on the jab this could spell disaster

Whilst this is great he is fighting again, how the fuck do they come up with these opponants.

Its like they go out of the way to choose the most random and unheard of fighter they can find. I reckon the old pull the name out of a hat must be the method they are using, whenever it is someone to good its a "practice".

This guy is tall and hasnt been stopped, so again a no-name fighter who everyone expects Choc to stop (and he knows every expects him to stop) may well end up going the rounds with Choc. So damned if you do and damned if you dont all over again, and its all Team Mundine's choice.
Just bizarre.

This French fella Theirry Karl aint even ranked in any of the WBA's top 15 rankings.
I bet he squeezes in at number 14 or 15 in the upcoming months.:deal

:happy

This is the best news I've heard all week.

And although I expected a tune-up after the eye incident (and rightfully so, imo), this guy is a middleweight coming off a loss... :-(

Why not a lower ranked guy like Stephan Bozic (WBA #12)... Got wipped by Tspko, but he did beat Hamdan and gave the former Euro champ a good 8 rounder and is actually coming off a WIN for a WBA regional belt (against okay journeyman Lolenga Mock).

Mundine would smash this guy, one eye or not... But they choose Karl? Perhaps Khoder was looking at Perdomo, that Venezualan/argentinian dude somehow in the top 5, and saw that this Karl bloke had lost to him. :patsch

Great news, nonetheless.

Total Joke ay?

Yes by losing his french national title.

Fark its so easy I didnt realise that all you had to do to get a ranking, stuff these regionals, fighting ranked fighters, dont even have to fight in the same division. Just lose the national title in the division below and you automatically get ranked.

Glad to see Mundine is back.

He was always going to take a warm up fight against a top 50 but this guy aint even that.

He has won the French Middleweight title but this is sad for Mundine and a poor preperation for Kess or Joe if he gets a shot early to mid next year.

I think Mundine supporters will all have to be "one eyed" from now on.

I'm sure the huggers will find a way to sugar coat this guy as well, like after that last clown he fought they were saying he was worthy and would give any top 10 fighter a hard time  fucking idiots.

this fights not happening, and I strongly doubt the Tarver v Green fight will go ahead either. Green announces a lot of things before time that blow away in the wind. I mean they havent even settled on a venue by the sounds of things.
If Mundine makes a comeback he will take a comeback fight against a lesser fighter like Green or a declining fighter like Hamden.

it will go ahead cause its been announced by tarvers camp numbnuts but u give all the green fans so much shit it must be killing u to see green fighting for a title not an interim title in america against tarver and gaining massive exposure while one eyed willy is fighting another no name claiming he is proud to defend the belt !?! against the best opposition :hi:

"one eye willy" hahhaha...you've been watching too much Goonies JB.
Nah, really I love seeing Green step up. He always gets toweled and I like the dejected look on his face at the end. I have some compassion for him at the same time because I think the poor bastard works his tail off. If he just had some talent rather than being such a try hard. Even if he just had some boxing IQ. How many times can he go in with the same fight plan "PLAN A" before he realises he needs to work on some skills.
As for fighting for a title, man, Shannon Taylors world title ranks higher. Finally, Tarver v Green will get about as much exposure as the last Tarver fight against "insert bum". I dont know how much that is, but I'd be surprised if it was massive.
Look JB, it would be healthy for you to stop comparing Green to Mundine. That has been done. Even Green has been humiliated into moving on. Mundine is better than Green in every facet of life (Mundine would surf better than him within a week). In fact, Mundine would be a better father for Greens children and husband to his wife.

I don't buy Mundine's my eye is sooo bad BS, I still believe it was a minor infection, but he is milking that cow to have an excuse for fighting yet another bum, because he knows all the gullible fans will say, "he's entitled to take an easy comeback fight, the Man nearly lost his sight".

Funny how people didn't buy into his injured arm excuse (after Nievas), and all of a sudden he is nearly blind instead.:think

I bought the arm injury scenario because JB1 (who is a lifetime hater) met him in his physio while it was getting worked on.

Major or Minor eye injury, if a doctor publicly states he may lose some vision permanently then you should start to worry.

Anymore statements you want clarification on :think

The media has a way of bending statements to make them look more sensational. Sensation seels, you know. Have you seen a clip with a doctor saying this? My guess is that you read it.

I think he was injured both times but exaggerated the extend of the injuries to make an excuse for not stopping Nievas, and secondly to be able to stall fighting a worthy opponent and thereby getting closer to a Calzaghe/Kessler fight (BIG moneyfight) without taking any risks. But believe want you want, I already said I was sure he would get over his eye injury and fight again when the news about his infected eye got out, and I was so sure that I offered to bet on it. But people saw a picture where his eye was very red and read that a doctor had said so and so and suddenly everybody believed the con.:yep

See people like Boxfan99 are not total idiots. They just become total idiots when talking about Mundine. Totally irration stuff such as seen in this thread. Expect this irrational thinking to lead Boxfan about a month from now to quote this article as from Mundine especially "why would Green fight Taver" or something like that. I mean how could a rational brain possibly interprete Mundines comments on 9/11 the way Boxafan has or to truely beleive that Mundine is faking an injured eye (as humiliating as it has been for Mundine)
