????

Was the division that saw Patterson and Ingo at the top of the heap the weaker era or is today's era weaker?

Patterson would get knocked quickly against a modern hard punching HW. Patterson had a shaky chin against 180 lbs HW's.

That isn't what he asked....

To be clear though, what years exactly are you talking?

It's a totally different game today than back in Patterson's era he would get KOed.

If Floyd Patterson is the very best HW of the Era, and he gets his ass knocked out in one round by a current HW. Doesnt that answer the question , which era is stronger?

Sonny Liston would have been the man today. Cleveland Williams and Floyd Patterson could possibly win an alphabet title.

I am not doubting Sonny Liston was a great puncher. Although it helps majorly KOing what would be present day supermiddleweights, and Lightheavyweights etc. What was Liston 5'11 200 lbs? He had a massive size and strength advantage for the era.

Liston might run the cruiser division if he dropped some pounds...or been a small heavy.

I think a guy like Ding would be Liston comfortably.

Old is never better than New.

Ali would get beaten up in todays HW division. Ali would get beaten up by these these fighters we call heavywieghts, yeah look at the competition he faced back in the 60s and 70s compared to one of the weakest era in boxing history. If you said the 90s I might of said he would of had some tough fights, but if you think Wlad would beat Ali your fooling yourself.

almost all of today's heavyweights would crush those from an era as old as patterson's; however, patterson's era did not have all of the obstacles to good match making that are present today, and thus was better

Yeah, but if those old guys were fighting today they obviously would use the training methods fighters use today, have the same knowledge about nutrition, etc. Most of all, they too would have access to the same 'medical supplements' that allows cruiserweights to become heavyweights in a matter of months. Besides, size is not everything.

If Holyfield could get from 177 at the beginning of his career to a comfortable 220 I see no reason why some of the old school fighters couldn't gain some more firepower in this era, also some of you are overlooking the massive reach to height ratio that Liston had.

Marciano's era = worst in boxing

You are talking bollocks. The early 80s sucked monkeys balls, and todays era aint great either,ok but not top quality.
