i know it's a long shot, but if he can keep the rankings free of bias then i'd say yes. if he's really serious about cleaning up the sport then maybe he could be given him the benefit of the doubt for this move.
but if the rankings are all of a sudden populated by undeserving GBP fighters then fuck him.

I agree with Cooke.
But if people think it as bad as the dickhead that edited on the main page they are idiots.
At the end of the day, will it make much difference.

While Ring Magazine isn't what it used to be, it was one of the last bastions of independent ratings that carried some weight.
Ocsar buying the magazine out puts the magazine's good will and credibility at risk.
Will Oscar use Ring Magazine for slanted press for his fighters? Will he use the magazine to get even with rival promoters? I think this is a real concern. While Ocsar won’t blatantly abuse this power, he is a sure bet to bend it to his favor on the less obvious levels.

Nothing against DLH but i doubt it is good if a promoter owns one of the bid media of the sport.Exactly no promoter should own it they will obviously be bias in some ways....

I think a promoter should never control media like this... but at the same time maybe in some way Oscar will bring more people to the sport through this. Good and bad, but I just see this as leading to bias in the rankings. Not hard to slip a fringe contender into the Top 10 here and there.

Bad - I wouldn't like any promotional company buying Ring

never gonna buy the ring again :/
I voted "Good", but it should have probably been "Neither". Honestly, The Ring magazine will not change at all. People are frightened that the rankings will be full of all GBP fighters, but it's not going to happen. De La Hoya has said it won't happen and the editor will not allow it either.
For the magazine to be biased, every writer would have to be fired. Until that hapens, let's stop with all the pathetic, melodramatic posts, eh?
The only thing that will happen right now - That is actually being talked about, is establishing The Ring's title as the absolute best. What GBP want is all the best fighters fighting the best, and to determine who actually deserves the title "World champion".
From what we know now, everything coming out is great for boxing. If that changes, I'll happily eat my words, but right now, this is just what boxing needs.

Very bad. Like someone said if Arum or "Evil" King bought the Ring people would probably stop buying but people want to put Goldie boy on a pedestal. HBO is biased on Golden Boy so why not the Ring? Shouldnt Marquez of fought Pac again instead of Barrera? Wasnt DLH v Mayorga another hyped fight? Did HBO really have to make it fight of the year last year?

GBP buying the ring is very bad IMO, journalists are meant to be objective, A promoter owning a boxing publication doesn't seem very objective to me.
I think Oscar should let go of that tight tight grip he has on boxings balls.

I agree. While the editors/writers remain the same, their articles will without a doubt be influenced in one way or another by DLH, since writing anything negative about GBP might cost them their jobs. But as with all speculation, we shall see. From my end, though, not a good move for Ring who was an independent "sanctioning body" with their rankings.

Oscar is taking over everything, from Ring right down to the EA Sports Fight Night series. Look at the roster. Gone are the Top Rank fighters. In are Golden Boy fighters like Escobedo and Mares who hadn't even won REGIONAL belts at the time of the game's release. With the rise of MMA, this can do one of 2 things:
1. Cripple Boxing
2. Help Boxing because under one big promoter, the biggest fights will be made.
I'm leaning toward #1 right now.

If GBP managed to buy everything up and create a UFC style business plan then this could be very good for boxing because we will no longer suffer because of politics, if GBP failed to unify boxing then we would just see GBP fighters getting hyped while more deserving fighters take the sidelines.

I thinks that the Golden Boy purchase is really going to compromise the editorial content of the Ring magazine.

Bad. No promoter/promotional company should own the so-called "Bible of Boxing".
Things must've been really bad financially over at The Ring. You would lose count if you tried to count the number of times in the past 5 years that The Ring (or its sister magazines) talked about how great their championship policy is and how it is free of bias. They also lost a lot of their crediblity in the late 70s when they sold their ratings, and have been trying to live that down.
Then they sell themselves to a large boxing promotional company. You wonder what they were thinking and how they know people would be some skeptical that they can still be neutral. Boxing fans are used to corruption in boxing and often naturally just distrustful because of all the shadiness that has gone in in the sport.
The fact that people in The Ring obviously know this and still sold themselves probably shows that times and sales were down.

The fact that people in The Ring obviously know this and still sold themselves probably shows that times and sales were down....Or maybe they realised actually had enough power and desire in the sport to change it, is De La Hoya. His power, combined with his business genius and the fundementals The Ring offer, is a good thing.
Anyway, the whole existing company has been bought. It's not just The Ring, so I doubt declining sales are the reason it's been sold. De La Hoya now owns everal magazines (Including a wrestling one for Presscot), which has nothing to do with the current state of boxing. it's just business. The fact it is 'The Ring' no doubt helped DLH make his mind up, but the company would have sold it's magazines to someone else if DLH had not got involved.
Look on the upside to this, people :good

I am hoping it will make the magazine widespread again like it was before. I have not seen a ring magazine for 10 years now. Becuase they stoped selling them here at newstands that long ago.
I never been able to find a website of theirs till 2 years ago.
