I think he might be going for another Olympic medal?

He's considering joining AIBA's WSB (World Series of Boxing). And if I remember correct he already months ago said he wasn't interested in turning pro.

why would he?? hes making more money now as an amatuer than he would in his first 5 years of being a professional

Maybe cuz he figured he could start collecting gold medals now that he doesn't have to deal with Povetkin anymore.
Whatever his reasons, its a shame he isn't from our POV.
Pianeta (I don't care if the Germans 'claim' him) vs Cammarelle would have made an interesting all-Italian heavyweight showdown :yep

I think Cammarelle in private thinks he won't become a pro champion.
Cammarelle is an amazing talent, but he might have stamina and chin problems on the next level.

Reasons for Cammarelle to Stay Amatuer
1. Win a Second Gold Medal
2. More money for him in the Amatuers
3. Better suited for Amatuer boxing
I think we have it figured out now

HW pro division would be more exciting if Camarelle and Timurziev had turned pro after Beijing.
I'm still hoping, who knows.
From what I've seen out of Camarelle he would do fine as a pro, the big money that he is currently making as an amateur is what is killing the chances there.

He knows he would not have made it past Euro contender as a pro. Much easier for him as an am.
He should try his luck as a pro. Money and glory are there.

Cammarelle will stay in the amateur boxing till London 2012. He agree with offer of Sports Departmend of Italy and Gouverment Berlusconi one year before.
He will get 100 000 euro for month, its good money. This think must to do also some hard states if they want to keep hard amateur boxing.
Cammarelle is 29 years old and with 32 years old will turn in pro, right time. With 10-matches he will get world title shot in pro.
Roberto Cammarelle with 35 years old will be world champion .

He also has a job as a cop, it's not like he needs to turn pro with the money he gets from the Italian government and having a job he enjoys, from what I remember hearing.

He is too afraid of turning pro. Very disapointing but not surprising.

Yes, I'm sure that boxing professionally is more frightening to someone who has done it all his life than strapping on a badge and going out as a cop.
