Edgar Sosa's fighting now, right?

It'd put me on cloud nineteen to hear about Arce losing to Rojas. :yep

boxing_report

It's a very real probability that Arce might lose tonight.

Rojas is a dangerous, tall southpaw who can bang and possesses a solid chin.

Rojas is definitely an under-the-radar threat.

I'm wondering the same thing. Hopefully someone has that spanish channel and can report what's happening during the Sosa fight.

How can you not like Arce?

You're getting me all hot and bothered. :happy:happy

Most people just seemed to dismissively say "Arce by KO" because the guy's got a journeyman record, but he's never been stopped in 36 fights and doesn't have a bad ko percentage himself. :think

Apparently they are gonna start up with a woman's boxing match.

La Princesa Azteca, Jackie Nava who is trying to get back her title after losing it in Argentina.

I think this one is a rubber match because I saw the first fight that was held in Tijuana, and the Argentinian beat her. I guess she didn't win the rematch as well.

I agree. Nava is landing some nice accurate shots and bigger is too damn slow.

boxing_report

Biggers is very game and takes a good punch, but Navas is on another level it appears.
There's an angry mouse under Biggers' left eye which continues to swell.

A feeling-out opening round.
Sosa circling to his left and jabbing controlled the most of the action.
Trejo working to close the distance, but winging some shots that miss.

Close round.

Sosa - round 1

Lampley
09-16-2007, 10:44 PM
I scored it for Sosa as well. Good jab. Good movement. Close, though.

boxing_report
09-16-2007, 10:48 PM
Round 2 Sosa jabbing from the outside - moving, defensively sound.

Worked some combinations toward the end of the round.

Trejo stalking, finding it hard to get inside.

Sosa edges Trejo in Round 2.

Lampley
09-16-2007, 10:49 PM
I also scored Round 2 it for Sosa. The slowness and wide arc of Trejo's punches make it look like he's in a swimming pool.

Trejo needs to go to the body.

boxing_report
09-16-2007, 10:52 PM
In Round 2 Sosa lands cleaner and more often.
Right hands especially found their target.

Sosa counterpunched effectively in this round.

Trejo basically beaten to the punch.
Still game, though, and busy.

Round 3 - Sosa

Lampley
09-16-2007, 10:53 PM
I also score it 3-0 for Sosa, although it's likely all three judges don't see it that way.

Trejo actually looks a little bulked up to me. The hand and footspeed with the jab have been decisive early.

Lampley
09-16-2007, 10:55 PM
Good flurry to end Round 4. Sosa simply is sharper.

Trejo needs to make an adjustment.

4-0 Sosa

boxing_report
09-16-2007, 10:55 PM
Round 4 - Sosa picks up momentum.
His punches are crisper and sharper.
His timing is precise.
Sosa repeatedly nails Trejo with combinations, uppercuts, counters.

Trejo missing wildly is beginning to look a little dispirited.

Sosa definitely took over that round.

Round 5 begins.

boxing_report
09-16-2007, 11:00 PM
Round 5 - The action heats up.
Trejo managed to land a bit more, but also got tagged more than in previous rounds.
Sosa simply outclassing Trejo w/ superior technique.
Sosa's movement has befuddled Trejo since the opening bell.

Round 5- Sosa

Lampley
09-16-2007, 11:00 PM
Repeatedly, Trejo struggles to get close, and when he does get in, he gets beaten to the punch.

Sosa 5-0.

boxing_report
09-16-2007, 11:03 PM
Round 6- more of the same...Sosa clearly boxing circles over Trejo.
There's a major class difference here.

It's clear that the only way Trejo could hope to win this bout is by TKO/KO which is unlikely due to Trejo's lack of firepower.

Round 6 - Sosa

Lampley
09-16-2007, 11:04 PM
Sosa 6-0. He has all the answers in this fight.

The only shots Trejo throws with any danger with them, Sosa blocks easily with his gloves.

Lampley
09-16-2007, 11:07 PM
Sosa 7-0.

The combination Sosa landed in the middle of the round makes me think he might be able to the stoppage.

I wonder if he'll press the issue in the last few rounds.

boxing_report
09-16-2007, 11:07 PM
Round 7 - Sosa boxing beautifully from the outside.
Working a consistent jab off of Trejo's face.
Landing an occasional bodyshot.

They trade leather at the end of the round.
Sosa getting the better of it.

Round 7- Sosa

boxing_report
09-16-2007, 11:13 PM
Round 8 - Sosa outboxing, outpointing - almost battering Trejo.
Trejo seems to be beaten to the punch at every turn.

A bodyshot fired by Sosa momentarily froze Trejo.

They engaged in a spirited exchange toward the end of the round.

Trejo seems to be cut above both eyes.

Round 8 - Sosa

Lampley
09-16-2007, 11:13 PM
Sosa 8-0. The skill level isn't close.

Trejo is now becoming desperate, lunging and winging hooks from long-range. He is wide open for counters.

Sosa can make it happen if he goes for it.

That combo Sosa landed in round 7 foreshadowed what was to come. Trejo was out of league in his fight.

He fight bravely, though, so congrats to him for that.

Sosa is a very solid fighter. Not spectacular, but I like the way he processes his advantages and sets tempo. He didn't give Trejo any opportunities for the homerun.

boxing_report

Round 3 - Rojas won that round through speedy, hard combinations that snapped Arce's head to and fro.
Rojas also got in some punishing bodywork.

Arce got off a few good shots late in the round, but Rojas answered with the harder, cleaner punches.

Round 3- Rojas

Lampley
09-16-2007, 11:54 PM
4-0 Rojas. A wider round.

Arce landed a few hooks that snapped back Rojas' head, but the taller, lankier fighter bounced numerous shots off Arce's dome.

Rojas obviously is a much better fighter than one might assume.

Arce does seem to be taking these punches OK, but he's catching a lot of leather.

Got to give it to Arce.

He's a crowd pleaser, he can take a shot, he has power for his weight class and he never gives up.

He'll need to take a hard look at whether he can sustain a career at this weight though - perhaps he's a little too short?

I think speed is the bigger issue, and there's only so much he can do about that. He's a great showman for sure, and it was good to see him fight with sustained confidence after the Mijares debacle.

I also wonder if Rojas might be better served moving up a division or two. He'll lose relative height, but he's so narrow at that height, he just looks vulnerable physically.

It's hard to imagine that a fighter with his ability would have that many defeats.
