Absolutely nowhere. Average fighter. Domestic level.

the guys career has progressed like a snail. it was over 3 years ago now that he was on the contender. he should of had a british title shot as soon as he got back from there. also I do not think he should be at Super Middleweight. If anything I though he would go down in weight.

He should be quigley and will then beat Dodson. After that I can see ****** maybe getting him a WBO shot. But he certainly wont deserve it and will get taken apart as soon as he fights world class opposition.

it would have been interesting to see how he would of got on agaisnt Solimon or Bika in the contender. remember the coaches rated him highly he was one of the 1st picks. i seem to remember one of the trainers saying "i will be shocked if you dont become a world champion Paul" and Buddy McGirt took him on after the show.

lakcing severly in talent but has a solid game that will let him be competative domestically and on the euro stage.

He will be involved in a world title fight one day.

When he's working his brothers corner.

He's a decent domestic fighter who'll do well to win a Lonsdale belt outright. His brother is a mile better than him.

people who've trained with him etc seem to talk about him highly, the trainers on the contender picked him out as the best boxer, but we've never really seen him produce it in the ring. the loss to bendall was a shocker. think he needs a sink or swim type fight to see if he's ever going to make anything of his talent.

no reason for him to be at super middle either. he was a bit out of shape at middleweight.

I'd like to see if he could raise his game against a World level fighter. I agree though he's the least talented of the brothers.

also I do not think he should be at Super Middleweight.

I agree with this^^^^. Smith is a decent domestic operator (nothing wrong with that, not everyone can be a world champ) but I honestly think that Quigley will take him

100% Smith shouldn't be at 168.

nufc16
09-21-2009, 02:10 PM
i think the mere fact that he's at 168 show his dedication is perhaps not what it should be. if he kept himself in anything like decent shape he should be able to make middle easy.

Spot on. He's looked very lackadaisical in a fair few of his fight as well.

i think all the super middle weights need to watch out for kenny anderson from edinburgh,he could easily ko all his rivals in britian

He isn't brilliant really. Hardly fought anyone of any real class. The Quigley fight should be a good test for him. Would really like to see him perform well, hardly any good fighters from Liverpool any more.

fyi Paul Smith is Currently ranked number 4 by the WBO at Super Middleweight.

There number 1,2,3 are Ward, Abraham and Dirrel who our in the tournement. This basically means Paul Smith is the number 1 contender for Robert Steilgritz.

FYI the rating of a Frank ****** fighter in the WBO is worthless.

A Frank ****** fighter who's done nothing is high up in the WBO rankings? I refuse to believe it!

if he beats quigley he will probs get a world title fight in 2010. anyone fancy him to take Steilgritz?

I've always had my doubts about Smith to be honest. For the last few years everyone's been raving about him and I genuinely dont see why? He hasn't fought the greatest of opposition, he's lost aginst a pretty average domestic scrap against Steven Bendall. He eaked out a victory over a Healy who DeGale put out in a round. Stieglitz, Balzsay and Inkin would beat him IMO so there's the EBU out of the window.

If he beats Quigley would like to see him fight Magee

When asking about the Bendall loss on boxrec, people think he was unlucky to not get the decision and thought he won.

Most likely a domestic level fighter, he's been pro since 2002 and is only just going for a British title now.

He'll beat Quigley though, Quigley is stil a novice.

He will be a contender on the domestic front.

he deffinatley won the bendall fight but still. i think he is one of those fighters that is world class in the gym, domestic level in the ring.

Some harsh comments here I think, but your entitled to your opinions... I'll say this for sure, Paul was robbed against Bendall!! I was sat in the front row and Bendall couldn't believe he ha got it, He was walking away from the ref waiting for him to raise Paul's hand,

I'll be first to say Paul ain't reached his potential yet and has looked bad a few times BUT he is a good fighter IMHO. I think he'll stop Quigley. If Paul is given notice and an opponent you'll see the best of him that's for sure. Not many people will agree with me I know but I gotta tell ya my opinion on him. He's a good fighter.:good

I think people are being harsh on Paul because he has not delivered in the ring on a consistant basis. On the odd occaision he performs to his ability he has looked class but more often than not he lets himself drop down to his opponents level plus his fitness needs to improve, I know as a boxer he is fit but he needs to take it up a level or two if he wants to achieve his goals.

I like Paul and have tried to follow his career from the ams. He still has potential and although I do not think he is a world title challenging fighter if the opportunity that Rob mentioned came along he could surprise us all but only if he far exeeds everything he has shown us so far.

He should get dedicated, move down to 160 and fight Barker/Macklin. It's logical.

I think that you have seen Paul in the gym and anyone that has sparred with him or watched him train seem to really rate him. Fact is we have yet to see a top quality performance from Paul Smith.

Perhaps its a case if him fighting at his level. Thats why i would of loved to have seen him fight Solimon or Bika.

Whats your thought on Stephen Smith Tony? I think he could be a world champion for usre. Havent seen any of Liam Smith but i think Stephen is the standout of the Smith brothers for sure.

i think thats the reason why ****** moved him up. SMW is a weak division domesticly.

He's quit his DJ job and has now fully dedicated himself fully now according to a article i read today.

He says he wasn't getting home till 5am and it was a stuggle to train fully.

Come the 30th of October we will see the proof in the pudding.

Quigley is no joke....his counter punching against Dodson was very impressive. Smith will have to be on top form to take Quigley's crown.

Yeah he did look rather podgy in the mid section. I'm really looking forward to this fight. I have no clue who will win but i like both so all i want is a great fight.
