Could anyone enlighten me on why this is?
If wrestling is on College programms, why boxing not? A pity:?

It got banned by the NCAA and now only exists as a club sport in some colleges.

I thought this an interesting question. From our good friends at Wiki....

"The National Collegiate Athletic Association discontinued the boxing championship after 1960; however in 1976, American collegiate boxing was picked up again by the National Collegiate Boxing Association.

At the 1960 NCAA Championships Charlie Mohr, a boxer on the University of Wisconsin-Madison team, collapsed with a brain hemorrhage and died one week later."

So, apparently, the NCBA is currently active (though it's not terribly competative):

Thanks a lot. I didn't searched the web because I thought fellow ESB'rs might know it as well and wanting to share it.

It'd be nice if there was college boxing, there's college rugby here though.

Lock Haven has a boxing team.... Only some schools have boxing teams... I remember about 2 or 3 years ago, they had it on TV... Joey Gilbert from the Contender was there talking about it... I think if NCAA were to do that, it would be a great way to bring life and more interest back to this sport in the States.. ALSO... Gives the kids more opportunities for that scholarship...

That would be great ... you see some Ivy League guys climbing up the ranks and being a national champion ... Maybe even having some pro success ... I don't think this is a bad Idea ... when did it get banned?
