Matthew Macklin takes on pure world class fighter, The Ring Magazines #6 rated middleweight in the world; Amin Asikainen this friday. Does Macklin stand a stand against the hard hitting and classy Finn?

I doubt it. They are not at the same level. Asikainen by KO early.

Not only does he stand a chance, he is the favorite against the aging Finn.

:huh He's like 1/3 on to win the fight.

He has a very good chance but if you are very confident put your money on Asikainen and you'll get good value.

I think it's time i get you the name and number of Kessler's tattoo artist in Denmark. We will get you branded with some slick ink that simply says, "Styles make fights"! That way you will be forced to abandon your stance on adaptability being the only key to winning and come to Jesus with the fact that most battles are won before they're even fought on a style can be all wrong for another; hence this is the "sweet" not the warfare science.

I bet that EVERYONE who has seen the Asikainen vs. Sylvester wars will pick Asikainen in this fight. And same with the Campas fight... If you have seen Asikainen vs. Campas and Macklin vs. Campas... I am 100% sure that you will pick Asikainen.

These guys are at different level.

The Ring Magazine knows thats, but most of you guys just seem to be blind.

I think it is too hard to call with it being in England Macklin may get the decision if it is a close fight. This is going to be Macklin's hardest fight yet. If Macklin looses he still has options of big fights over here in Ireland. A bout with either Duddy or Lee would sell out a lot of places over here and would be a good fight for Macklin to have. If he wins he could be 2 fights away from a World title fight. Defend the title twice and look for a World title after that.

if macklin gets a dodgy decision. i will kick off. anyone know if there are tickets left. might drive up with my cousion. be in the only finnish there.

Going on the Gevor fight I would assume that Macklin will win by clear ud.
However thats the only fight of his I've seen so who knows.

Gevor is a good fighter though. Not sure if Macklin has it in him to do that but he smashed Elcock, is Asikainen is slipping Macklin could pull it off.

This 'Toney' is a spastic, his reasoning is stupid.

maxklin has never really delivered has he.

always flattered to deceive. :patsch

hence the reason this one is a very big test.

it's a fight he should win given home advantage and the fact this guy has also fallen short at european level before.

I watched Macklin do six rounds of sparring against this huge super middle at Joe Gallagher's gym a week or so ago and he looked really sharp and focused.
Amin Asikainenīs main sparring for this fight have been decent EURO level middleweight Gennady Martirosyan ([Only registered and activated users can see links]), reining Russian super middleweight champion Konstantin Piternov, hot super middleweight prospect Niko Jokinen (6-0), and Swedish Olympian Patrick Bogere (4-0 as a pro).

Who has Macklin sparred with?

Can't remember that guys name off the top of my head. Steve Woods of VIP Boxing will probably have excerpts from the Macklin interview online on his site in the next day or so and as I remember, Matt listed names.

In the sparring session the opponent was really having problems with Matt's body shots.

Body shots will not worry this guy. I guarentee Amin is in better shape than Macklin.

Have you actually watched Asikainen? He isnt world class and lets have it right it doesnt take much to be ranked 6th in the middleweight division anymore! MAcklin is heavy favourite but as you have documented asikainen can dig a little so always dangerous, but u cudnt be more wrong in your prediction.

Youīre still seeing something in Asikainen, that just ainīt there.

Asikainenīs ONLY world-class ability are his powerful counter punches. He can knock out anyone, but against world-class opponents itīs pretty difficult to do well by only seeking the KO shot.

There arenīt many guys in RING rankings that could fold like an accordion, in the fashion that Asikainen did in 7th round against Gevor. That is NOT suitable for a top fighter. Asikainens chin is poor and his age is starting to catch up with him. This means, that especially in british soil, he will become Macklinīs victim.

And no, I donīt think that Macklin will be a world champ, he is nothing that special. Technically he could be actually described as quite poor from the top perspective. But I donīt think that Asikainen ever has been that special either. Finns tried to explain the first loss against Sylvester via neck punches and corrupt referee, but what happened against Gevor? Almost the same thing - Asikainen being destroyed by a mediocre puncher. And that time, there were no major cheapshots, and the judges actually favored Amin.

All in all, in term of world-class, Asikainen is nothing but a big puncher. His power favoured him once in Hannover, but no lucky shot has emerged since then. He has been exposed.

If you get utterly ruined by punchers like Gevor and Sylvester, itīs hell and high water against Macklin.

Im Afraid Mackling has serious chance to win Asikainen not on points but stoppage... Asikainen just has lost his punch resistance, it never was very good but it is not much much of a left anyways..

Mackling is not ever going to be a world champ, Asikainen just will be a good scalp in to his record. He is taking Fading Asikainen on just about right moment.

Asikainen can sure still knock this guy out cold...
