View Full Version : Official ESB Rankings Poster Nomination Thread

OK, everyone, the time to nominate posters for the original ESB Rankings Committee is upon us.

Here's the deal:

1) Each poster on ESB may recommend two posters for the committee, and posters are now allowed to nominate themselves.

2) Only posters with at least 1,000 posts and who have been registered on the site for three months are eligible.

3) One nomination thread is posted on the General Forum, and one is located on the Classic Forum. We'll be taking 18 from the GF and 6 from the CF. You may nominate on only one of the two threads.

4) This thread is being posted on September 17, and it will stay open stay open through September 27. When the clock strikes Midnight at UTC-12 -- that's 8:00am on the 28th for those on the United States East Coast -- voting will close.

5) Those posters with the most nominations will be invited to join the committee, and those who accept will comprise the voters for the first round of voting, to be conducted on October 7. At that time, the ESB population as a whole -- provided they meet the 1,000-post/3-month qualifications -- are eligible to apply for admission.

6) Enjoy!

To learn more about the project, please visit this thread and scroll down for the latest version of the rules: [Only registered and activated users can see links]

(P.S. A couple of posters have mentioned nominating me and I appreciate that, but I think it would be best for integrity purposes for me to sit out for now. Beyond that, I just don't think I'll have time to compile decent rankings while trying to work out the inevitable kinks in the system.)

I already nominated Achilles in the other thread, so...

Janitor
Manassa

(Zivic, JimmyShimmy, Montrose, and several others would be great choices if they were more active. Manassa might have missed the list if it wasn't for his recent spike in activity).

Hey, you can't nominate on both threads! Granted, we probably won't have very high numbers on the Classic forum, but still. ... Which two would you like to nominate?

(Keeping in mind, other strong nominees can be voted in for November, so it isn't a huge deal if someone doesn't get on board this first month.)

I'd like to nominate ChrisPontius (my favorite antagonist:bbb) and Decebal (as revenge for including me on his "ESB's TOP BOXING ANALYST?" poll in the Lounge, where I finished dead last:oops:). Now, I am truly sorry to have left anybody out, not wanting to appear to take favorites, and wish to assure you that I despise you all equally as much!:bart (Sweet Pea, you might have been included, if you hadn't already been nominated. I just want you to know I was thinking of you.)

Tell you what - this is hard. There are loads of guys here who know the sport, from that point of view pick any two names, ChrisPontius, JohnThomas, Janitor, Manassa, you can't miss. But if it's a comitee thing then you have to ask yourself, can these guys work and play with others?!

There are a huge amount of over-opinionated indiviualists in the Classic section, it seems to attract them in fact. It's what makes it so great, perhaps.

So taking all of that into consideration i'm going to nominate

They know their stuff and can probably get along with everybody.

Can I float the idea here that all comitee members have a uniform?

I'll throw three extra names into the hat here for peeps to ponder. They don't post as often as busybodies like myself but they are hugely travelled in all filmed era's. Drew101, Ezzard and TommyHearns. Meta too but he's not here much of late.

And McGrain, all are easy to get along with!

:fire

There's dozens in here tho really.

Personally i think these things are mostly hogwash. Lets hope this one does turn into something good tho, seems to be plenty of effort.

Well he did have a point about you, sorry.

I mean let's be honest, if an easy-going guy like Red Rooster is making you look like a frustrated 60 year old man every time then you have some issues. And to compensate for that you have those babe avatars. Tsssk!

In my defense Redrooster's stupendous depth of knowledge, common sense and ability to adapt would make anyone feel 60 years old and frustrated!

Irrelevant. You've demonstrated your analytical skills in the past enough--now that you're back, we can assume that you still possess those skills and would be able to use them to rank fighters.

...That is, unless you do not want the position.

Actually, too much beer and not enough writing means my boxing knowledge has diminished dramatically. Nowadays, I barely know who Joe Louis is. When's he next fighting?

Nah, I think you're a very intelligent chap I've enjoyed reading some of the in depth replies and opinions you have posted in my short time here. I find you very knowledgeable, even when I don't agree with your opinion. You're one of few people here who has made me re-evaluate my own views and opinions and on occasion made me realise I happen to be wrong. That is why I enjoy reading your intelligent and well thought out posts.:good
