View Full Version : Licina vs Hernandez on AA's undercard
Very interesting cruiser weight fight between two stable mates!
German based Bosnian Enad Licina(17-1) is scheduled to take on his Cuban stable mate Yoan Hernandez(19-1) on the undercard of AA vs Taylor on oct.the 17th.
Licina showed a very disappointing performance against a Mexican ring clown in his last outing to a ring. However,he has collected some truly decent skalps in his short pro career.
He stopped Herrera in round 8 of their encounter. The Cuban based strongman had given hell to some of Licina's better known rivals over there in the us before.
Licina also duked it out with teak tough Czech Lubos Suda luckily winning a very close fight.
Furthermore he beat two of the best known gatekeepers at cruiser/light heavy weight: Ismail Abdoul and Sergej Karanevich.Rusiewicz was another of his victims.Licina stopped him.
Rusiewicz? Who the hell is he? Well,he put up a very courageous show of boxing against Herbi Hide making the water hot for the British based African.
Moreover,Licina has beaten the likes of Robert Norton,Otis Grant, and Kendrick Releford.
He suffered the only loss of his career at the hands of his former stable mate Kuziemski-he lost a point decision to the Pole in his 4th pro fight.
Hernandez, too, has collected some good skalps, but all in all his fight record is not as good as Licina's one.
A point victory over Aaron Williams,a mayority decision over Michael Simms,a point decision over Abdoul, and a very beautiful ko victory over New Zealand based Arab Azzouzi are his claim to fame.
He failed badly when he faced the most recognisable name of his foes. Braitwaithe brutally knocked him in round 3 of their encounter.
Hernandez's lack of tactical discipline and his glass chin(knocked down and hurt by journeymen) are his weak spots.
Nevertheless, the talent is there as could be seen against Braitwaithe.
Hernandez almost took the Jamaican out in the very first round of their encounter making him look like shot vet.
Licina vs Hernandez? Your opinion?
Probably a true crossroad fight for both of them.I guess the loser will be kicked out of Sauerland's stable.

Very good fight Odo and your comments are very true on each man. Hernandez has the more natural skills and his abilities are there for all to see. Licina works hard at what he has and I like his attitude to adversity, he seems to want success very much.
I think almost anything could happen here, I feel fairly certain someone is getting knocked out and possibly quite early, certainly before the half way mark.
I may go against the flow here and I will pick Hernandez by stoppage inside three rounds.
I am ready for people to think I am mad, but we have to call it as we see it.

Is this some kind of eliminator? both fighters are fairly high ranked, so I think both can benefit from this to land a title fight soon.
Great fight could go either way IMO.

I dont give Licena much of a chance... Hernandez just seems to be at different level. I am suprised if Licena wins more than 3 rounds in this one.
Odo check your private messages :good

Different level? Hm!:huh:think:think
I disagree with you! Licina has fought the better opposition up till now. Thats for sure!
This upcomming fight can really go either way,but I for one wouldnt dare to think that Hernandez plays in a different dimension.
Well,I am going to attend this fight event with a Cuban friend who knows Hernandez as they were team mates some years ago.
:DI wont dare to root for Licina, but I am not sold on Hernandez!

Cool! Was the other guy a teammember mate from their Olympic team back then?

No,they were team members in the Cuban national squad. My friend hurt his shoulder and had to quit boxing. He managed to get off the Cuban island and now lives in Germany's capital Berlin.

Hernandez should win as long as he doesn't get knocked out or gas out. Completely different level of class between the two. I also disagree that Hernandez's resume is worse than Licina's. Hernandez has two better wins than Licina's best win, and his journeyman oppoonents are generally just as tough as Licina's, just have faced stronger opposition. IMO, Licina's best win is Kendrick Releford, who's another one of those guys who's much better than his record, but sort of has an opponent mentality and gives up late in fights.
Well, Licina's chin held out and he showed heart.
But Hernandez proved to be a superior boxer, with his size and reach advantages.
Hernandez is putting together quite the resume since losing to Braithwaite, anyone think he should try to get that victory back and rematch the Jamaican?

Completely different level of class? Nah!
Hernandez vs Licina was a very close fight. Me and my friend tried to have a short chat with Yoan Pablo after his victory over the Bosnian, but he didnt return to the arena after his fight.
True pity as my friend knows him quite well as they stem from the same region in Cuba and trained together in La Habana!
Brickhaus, I also disagree with you on who has fought the better comp.
Licina beat the dangerous banger Herrera, outpointed Czech toughman Suda( who beat Firat Arslan),Otis Griffin,Kendrick Releford,Robert Norton, Ismail Abdoul(europe's gatekeeper at cruiser weight),Sergej Karanevich(europe's gatekeeper at light heavy),and lost a very close point decision to Polish olympian Kuziemski(in his 4th fight).
Hernandez's fight record isnt that impressive!
He beat Aaron Williams who would probably lose 9 out of 10 fights against Suda, scored a mayority decision over Michael Simms( a kind of gatekeeper like Karanevich and Abdoul),knocked out an overrated New Zealand based Arab as well as a totally shot Norwegian vet,and was stopped by Wayne Braitwaithe in round 3 of their encounter.
Well,he beat Lician in saturday's fight.Props to him for doing so!
I am still not sold on Yoan Pablo, but the potential is there.
His chin seems to be his weak point-something which cant be fixed.

:shock:Close? I saw him putting up a clinic and MASTERFUL performance.
He was by FAR the superior boxer and improved so much since the Braithwaite fight. He really matured. His stamina, defense, patience. It was a great great performance and he outclassed Licina!! I don't understand why you are still so negative?:huh Are you maybe bitter because your man Licina lost? Because it was ABSOLUTELY no close fight Odo. And their level of class became very apparent.

That might be a great idea. If he fights Wayne the way he fought past Saturday then I see Yoan winning.

Well,I watched their encounter live. I guess you miss quite a lot of details when watching a fight live from not that good an angle.
Nevertheless,I for my part still think that their fight was quite close, and so thought two of the judges.
Negative???
Bitter??
My man??
You are wrong, boxeo! Licina is not "my" man! I dont know him at all.I feverishly supported Lubos Suda when they fought each other.I couldnt speak for 2 days-I had a hoarse voice.
By the way I was extremely critical of one of his last performances against a Mexican ring clown which I had the pleasure to watch.
No,I certainly have more "love" for Hernandez than for Licina.
Yoan Pablo is a very skilled and talented young fighter who can go quite far.I certainly wish him good luck, but I am still not sold on him due to his weak spots and some of his past performances against weak opposition.
However, good performances will persuade me to change my mind.Thats for sure!

Don't get me wrong. I absolutely don't think it was a mismatch or that Licina got dominated. Licina was at all times in the fight and proved one tough nut to crack. I have lot's of respect for him after this fight.
Yoan really matured a lot since his loss to Braithwaite. His chin is suspect though, yes, but it seems as though they found a way to overcome that and I was quite impressed with his defense.

Yep! Thats the way I saw this fight, too. Close fight, but the promising Cuban did stick to his game plan and was able to ward off Licina 's attacks quite well.
The Bosnian is probably the tougher fighter of this pair, but Yoan for sure is the more naturally gifted one of them.
Very good scalp for Yoan!:good
