How could he be 100 pounds overweight? He is only like 5'11. He would be morbidly obese if he weighed that much. 260 pounds???? There is no way. He would have looked much fatter at the press conferences if he had weighed that much. He wasnt that big
Not only that, but he would have known WAY in advance that he couldn't make that weight in time.

100lbs - Shit - I don't believe you believed that.
So their saying he's walking around at at least 260lbs. I've heard a lot of bs rumors - but this one is just crazy.

i think what he said was that he was 100 lbs overweight and couldnt get down in time, not that he was 100 lbs overweight on the day of the fight

I'm still curious to how much he was weighting at his heaviest. I still find it hard to believe that he was even as high as 220lbs or 230lbs. He didn't even look that heavy in some of the interviews that he did in promoting the fight. He looked like he was at a good weight at the press conference when they got into their little bs fight. I just can't see 100lbs.

From the sound of it there was no timeframe attached to that; I would take it to mean 100lbs overweight prior to camp. Which is pretty much insurmountable; and if that was the case he should have made it known far earlier.

here is a pic of fernando blown up. I don't know if it's a 100 pounds but he is obviously heavy at this point. i can't find the pic of this night while standing, it would have been good because he clearly looks 225-230 at the very least. oh well.

Well he admitted that at the beginning of the year he was about 260 pounds, I still cant believe he let himself get that big.

well that could explain it, and from that picture that was posted of vargas, he looks like he is definately up there in weight. Damn for a boxer that is pathetic, I mean even if he stopped training 4 a while he woulda gained weight, but damn 2 gain that much he must have been eating all kind of stuff, evrything in sight rather

He's big as hell. That's a damn shame. Mayorga can talk all the shit he wants.

I don't want to think about Vargas after boxing. He will eat himself up to 300 pounds if he's not careful.
I think he is desperate now because of the cancelled fight. And what is a nice way to forget about the problem than to eat! He may be past 300lbs now. lol

The whole thing regarding this fight and its postponement/cancellation is fishy, and it's all on Vargas' end. If he doesn't make weight by the new date, he should be heavily fined and Mayorga should move on.

Not so....
A few years back I was in a car accident. Herniated some disks (plus some other injuries) in my back and couldnt workout/exercise for about a year. Now I am short (5'6), but am always in very good shape. At the end of the year tho, without being able to shed it, I was up to 185-190...and I didnt really look that out of shape. Now Vargas, at 5'11 could easily have weighed 250-260 in some of those pictures where he looks huge.
I mean I had other things going on (wife was pregnant...so I ate ALOT), but from personal experience, I am telling you that he easily couldve been at that weight.
(oh and BTW, I am back down around 150 now...so please no fatty jokes...ya missed your oppurtunity  )

I weep for the mighty warrior Vargas. He does not deserve to be disrespected.
Anywhich way, I heard on these boards that he suffered from an illness, that made him gain all those lbs. Furhtermore, I have heard only a few weeks ago that he wasn't far from making weight.
So what is the real deal?

Well he admitted that at the beginning of the year he was about 260 pounds, I still cant believe he let himself get that big.
I just don't believe Vargas was ever that heavy. I know he's had problems with his weight for a long time now, but I just don't see reaching 260lbs, even if he ate what he wanted, whenever he wanted etc. Fernando is only 5'10, so he would be morbidly obese if he were 260lbs.
I reckon his health would be on the boarderline aswell. Vargas has a thighroid problem, so you would think he'd be extra careful in respect of putting on too much weight, eating a sensible diet etc. People cannot help you if you're not prepared to help yourself.
I think the figure of 260lbs is an exaggeration by Vargas, in order for people to believe that he really, really struggled to make weight for fight, which he did, but for it to appear more extreme than it actually was/is.
Damn, Mike Tyson probably only weighs 260lbs 7 he's much bigger than Vargas, despite being near the same height.

I don't think so. He was down quite a bit when he took his shirt off at that press conference. So... I would guess that he was sitting around 175-180 at that point.

100 lbs overweight, Im no mathmatician but that would put him at 262 lbs. .. he's closer to 5'9". These rumors are funny.
Fine, everyone try to guess Vargas weight from this picture:
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
My guess is around 230, which is 70 pounds over the weight. 100 pounds might have been an exageration, but a slight one.

It seems to me Blackinstone was talking about Vargas weight before he started training. I dont he was saying that at the moment Vargas canceled the fight he was 100 pounds overweight. That would be insane. From what I gather; he meant that he just couldnt lose 100 pounds during training camp, Vargas saw that he would fall short and thats why the fight was canceled.

That pic was from a while ago. Vargas did an interview on Showtime with Mayorga not too long ago and while he did look a bit overweight, he looked no where near what you see in that picture. He couldn't have been more than maybe 20 - 30 lbs overweight tops.
The one where they aggravated Jim Gray by speaking in Spanish a majority of the time? He looked significantly overweight; it made it all the funnier when he was called on it. You've got to figure 20-30 lbs over fighting weight isn't the same as 20-30 lbs overweight - nobody walks around in a natural, healthy state at their camp/fighting weight. The chub in his cheeks alone put him at more than 20 lbs away from fighting weight.

The guy who said is Kevin Blakistone...I saw the show too, he won around the horn for the day and recieved 30 seconds to spat on any topic, he chose to talk about the disgrace of Vargas missing out on the fight...He did mention that it was a rumor that he might be 100 pounds over, but still mentioned that if true it is disgraceful to the sport...He was 100% right and his credentials are there. He is a respecected sportswriter for the Dallas Morning News and an ESPN analyst.
