An opponent has been named for 2008 Olympic heavyweight gold medal winner Rachim Chakhkiev, who makes his pro debut on October 10th on the big “Universum Champions Night” card in Rostock, Germany. Chakhkiev, who was signed by Universum Box-Promotion in the summer and is trained by Michael Timm, will face Bulgarian Tayar Mehmed in a cruiserweight clash.

Don't much about Rakhim but he has good amateur credentials so I'm looking forward to see how his career pans out.

I am a huge fan of his. Chakhiev comes to fight. He hits hard, he's brave, he's aggressive in the ring, and he's very determined. The skills are solid. I never saw a punch bother him on the amateur level, and with his style you'd have to assume his chin is at least good. If Chakhiev has a draw back its merely average speed.

I predict he will be good enough to fight for a world title belt at cruiser weight, and likely win a world title belt.

Thanks guys.I'm really hyped about his career.

Hopefully he reaches the top of the sport altough with Universum it's kinda hard to imagine.
I can't wait to see him in action.

would be great to see him get some good match making and great training to make a successful transition from the AMz to the PROz

i personally think alexev may have been rushed a little to fast in the PROz as alot of experienced proz have mastered the ability to survive past 4 or 5 roundz with enough in the tank to take out any unsuspecting talented amatuer that hasnt yet mastered the ability of fighting at a top level deep into a fight

I do not think I have seen some of his fights as amateur. Reading all those good words for him has awaked curiosity. By the way I have never heard anything about his Bulgarian opponent so that it is certain that his debut will be a short one.

I saw his debut.I liked what I saw, very aggressive, maybe even more than he should be.Nice upper body movement and accurate shots.

Didn't bother to jab all that much but I guess he didn't have to.That left hook he finished the bulgarian off was a thing of beauty.

Hopefully he''ll be better than his countryman Alekseev.

Chakhiev is the most aggressive top level heavyweight amateur I have seen in a while. That is his style. He's going to force his man to either run and be on defense, or trade and deal with his power and toughness.

Anyone have a link to his debut?

God i love Romanchuk, i have at least a dozen of his fights, wish he had of turned pro.

Do you guys think he'll stay at cruiserweight or step up eventually. With young guys like Chakhiev, Glazkov, Pulev and Boytsov right now i think smaller more quick/skilled heavies could make a resurgence. The only real young giant heavies right now on the come up are Dimitrenko and Wilder, both of which i don't see having the talent to be top dog down the line.

Glazkov is 6'3", and has the frame to fill out to 230, but you're right it seems the top amateur level heavies turning pro from Europe are on the smaller side.

Chageav and Ibragimov were never big heavies, and each man did pretty well.

lol thanks, speaking of smaller heavies, he was only 6'0. I have a doc on him but no video of any of the fights vs Stevenson, you know if there's footage of those fights?

i know Glazkov is 6'3, it's perspective i guess though, i just don't consider him a "big" heavy. Use Haye as an example, everyone talks about him being small and the guys 6'3 225. Actually Pulev is listed at 6'4 1/2 lol guess he isn't small

Chagaev and Ibragimov are perfect examples

I have no clue but would tend to doubt it. I would sure like too see the bout when he stopped Stevenson in Havanna.

I just watched the Chakhiev debut. Chakhiev has the type of compact body which allows his arms to shield his mid section while tucking his chin under his gloves.

I liked his accuracy, aggression, skills, power and hooks. He will need to mix in a jab later on, and incorporate some head movement when he faced the best in the cruiser weight division. Pretty good debut.

Same here. Romanchuk was an all action type of guy, a rangy guy who could win by boxing and moving, out working his man, our slugging his man. He owned Cammarelle, and beat a very good Solis 2 of 3 times.

Romanchuck could have been a top levle pro for sure.

Real shame. He was my favourite amateur boxer when he was at his best. He had everything.

it is a shame, about romanchuck,

could have been a great pro,
in the video, man that had an amazing fast and hard jab
great movement for a heavyweight as well
good power, the guy did have it all
