i'm sure it must have been covered well somewhere here already.
not even sure if this is the correct place for this post either.
he got 23 years when he hit a fella who fell back and hit his head on the pavement and died.
23 years is a hell of a sentence for a bouncer hitting someone...i would have thought manslaughter rather than murder would have been charge.
i'm not saying hitting someone and killing someone is ok...not at all...just think this case delaney could have got manslaughter rather than murder, as it wasnt the punch that killed the guy, it was when he fell back and his head hit the pavement, so there is an aspect of accident to it {although he did mean to hit the guy}
i dont know much abut the type of fella delaney was, apart from his boxing career...i'm more curious about what others think of it all.

IIRC there was more to it than that. I think the attack was considered unprovoked rather than a bouncer "dealing" with a awkward customer.
FWIW both the Delaney brothers had "reputations" outside the ring.

Two blokes were being a bit of a pain and Garry was told to remove them by the manager. He did so but dumped one in some bushes and the other one complained. Delaney then turned and unleashed a right uppercut which killed the bloke. It was all caught on CCTV.
He didn't mean to kill him but make of it what you will.

Yes the Delaney brothers were cocks and he deserved the sentence. They were exposed in the ring for their limited ability so thought they would take their frustration out on members of the public on a night out.

Apparently the lad was sprayed with CS then punched- that's what I read somewhere! Boxers shouldn't work on doors. Pissed up idiots are accidents waiting to happen.

His brother Mark was Irish champion. Watched him in the Stadium on numerous times. Good boxer, and a heavy hitter.:thumbsup

He killed the guy with intent so murder, fancy spraying someone with CS then punching them. The guys a total cock and is best left in jail.

Killing people whilst working on the doors is horribly frequent. I've had a couple of near misses, seriously. I also lost a friend through a violent attack. The doors are should be the last resort for any young boxer.

Exactly right, Delaney had a big reputation for being a thug, lol Jodie Marsh was on Richard and Judy talking about how he knocked her around all the time, the slut.
His brother was undefeated til he got demolished by Calzaghe

Murder means pre meditated homicide, ie going out with the intention of killing a person as a forethought. Not knocking out some idiot who is causing trouble outside your place of work and as for belittling the brothers boxing records I think your bang out of order, did you have a better record than either of them?

He used to go out with Jodie Marsh. Below is an article about him:
Boxer sues NoW
Garry Delaney, the former Commonwealth cruiserweight champion and current world cruiserweight championship contender, is suing Jodie Marsh and the News of the World for defamation, following an article in the NoW on 17 October headlined 'My boxer lover beat me every week for 4 years'.
This article pre-dated his sentence. Anyone on here know what happened with the lawsuit?

The law always comes down hard on boxers in that situation and rightfully so.

the law generally looks at boxers as thugs, what percentage of boxers that you know are? From every boxer I have met 99% of them are the most polite and respectfull men about, not like the spoiled footballers, you see them getting away with things a boxer would'nt dream of doing, guilty or not most of them buy their way out of court with an expensive lawyer

Likewise, most boxers I have met have been wonderful guys.
However, Delaney failed to do the one thing that, to a boxer, should come natrually after a while: keeping cool. He knew by hitting that guy he could seriously hurt him and still did it.
Also, and this is important, to those in the know Delaney was a known bad article. Trust me, that wasn't his first appearance in court for violent behaviour and he was on a serious GBH case at Snaresbrook, along with a certain light-heavyweight who suddenly returned to his own country after the case, just a while before this incident.

If he was causing trouble outside his place of work then was the CS spray not enough? Why the need to punch him?
They had padded records and whenever they stepped up in class they were easily found out. :hi:
This article pre-dated his sentence. Anyone on here know what happened with the lawsuit? It was usual hot air from someone who had been shown to be a thug in the media.
I hope some on this thread would ponder over their romanticised defence of the thug. Imagine if one of your family had been sprayed with CS and then punched. I could not give two shits if he was a boxer as someone else lost a member of their family due to his aggression. As a boxer he should have known how to control his anger.
