it will be a crying shame if/when itv4 cancel boxing coverage as their presenting team display real passion, knowledge and experience of the old game. jim rosentahl is an absolute legend, barry mcguigan the duke obviously know their onions and john rawlin is the nearest thing we have to the late, ggggreat reg gutteridge, (here comes the sky bash) unlike mutley on sky who one minute is bigging up a fighter and the next claiming he is shot. during prizefighter he even started to prattle on about audleys one black boot and one white........why?

To be honest the one white and one black shoe was a puzzle for awhile so I was very interested in what he had to say. I just wish the Sky team would have spent more time on this issue. Audley obviously made the allegations that Britain was a racist society and wanted to make a point that black and white people could co-exist together in harmony so I felt the statement Audley made with his choice of shoe colour was a great landmark in British boxing and sporting history. Even the Barack Obama/Martin Luther King/ Wesley Snipes t-shirt carried less significance to me as a sport enthusiast. Hopefully with boundaries now broken in our society Audley can become a champion of the people and also become the greatest heavyweight champion this country has ever seen.

I wouldnt call it a dream team because of Barry Mcguigan he likes the sound of his own voice and if anyone has a different opinion he tries to belittle them like the time Thaxton said Fury was no way ready for Oliver McCall and Mcguigan did his best to make Thaxton feel uncomfortable on live TV, he's a tit.
With Thaxton packing it in i think he will make a great colour commentator or analyst and i do like Jim Rosenthal, Duke and Barker and Froch give good insight also. Hopefull Hennessy can do a late deal to get his shows back on ITV4 next year

When does the current Hennessy/ITV4 deal end?

Rosenthal and Barry leading from the front with Rawlings and Duke on the sidelines giving the blow by blow and good old Gabriel playing in the roaming position as he paces the stadium giving us gold.

ITV has a good set up but their marketing sucks. Cards like yesterday should be well marketed and the main event should be on ITV1. That was a British Title fight between a young gun and a veteran.

their team of barry, jim, john and duke is sound

but their overall production and presentation is shite it really annoys me when on the odd occassion they don' take a break inbetween rounds you can't hear what the fuck the corners saying because either the commentators talk over it or the microphone is not close enough.

Having said that i wouldn't care about poor presentation though as long they continued to show boxing.

the deal with henny was for 2 years but they decided to end it a year early, so it ends at the end of the year, anything Henny puts on between now and december will be on ITV4, which is at the most a couple more shows, after that its all over. :verysad

Gabriel is hilarious, he'll just ask some of the most pointless and bizarre questions possible, like about a haircut or something, then midway through talking he'll just walk off somewhere else, just to get a shot of a fighter or something.

gabriel is funny as Scouse lad has mentioned wth his ridiculous interview technique

Duke McKenzie is worse than any of the Sky idiots (Apart from Watt that is)

Unfortuneatly that sort of fight is never going to displace Strictly Come Dancing/ Pop Idol/ X-Factor or whatever else crap they put on ITV1 these days.

Sad but true....

It is a fact that ITV get very good figures for boxing, but it is also a fact that we don't know what they plan to do with boxing in the future as well. I will point out something that might make a difference, though: OFCOM has recently given the green light for product placement on TV. ITV lost a lot of revenue through advertising contracts going down the swanner last year and boxing was one of the first things that ITV said they'd have to cut to make ends meet. Now, product placement makes huge amounts of cash in America so if and when ITV do it, coupled with the UK starting to come out of the recession, there could be extra money to put towards programmng again.

For the time being, let's not get too excited, though. After all, we are all just guessing what is going on in ITV's boardroom meetings. Boxing could quite possibly still get the chop:good.

He is the best thing on that show. I was watching the backstage interviews that i missed on Sat night this morning and he was excrutiating, like having Larry David doing the interviews

one thing we need to realise is that to advertisers the best consumer is women aged 18-30.

If theres one show women aged 18-30 do not want to watch its boxing. thats where the problem lies. viewers are irrelivent if you cant sell ad space.

Two pages deep and yet no one has mentioned the theme tune.

Best on TV, bar none.

I hope he moves on from ITV4 I just think Hennessy and his fighters need to get back on a big sports station again. So when it comes to world title fights he wont have to worry about getting the fight on UK tv. So be it Sky or ESPN it would make more sense to move from ITV4.

i agree but it should be put on after a big show like that OR on another day or another date.

big time boxing has a proven track record. if it's a good match up and marketed then i dont know a fight that hasn't pulled.

Even if they shiften it to ITV2, surely the already decent viewing figures would increase?

The problem is that ITV don't build fighters up very well. You can't just say "Right, you've never seen these guys fight before but, believe us, this is a big fight" to casual fans.

I'd guess scheduling it after the X-Factor or whatever would be a good idea as long at it doesn't clash with MOTD.

It's true that they aren't built up but prizefighter basically says here are quite a few unknowns to hardcore fans let alone mainstream fans YET people will watch.
