In a recent article on ESPN conducted by Dan Rafael, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer made it clear that De La Hoya plans to continue fighting. However Schaefer also made it clear that a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr is not in De La Hoya's plans.
Speaking to ESPN, Schaefer said: "Oscar told me he's not hanging them up, but we have not talked about who, when or where. But it won't be a rematch with Floyd Mayweather." Schaefer added: "Oscar's thoughts about a Mayweather rematch are 'Been there, done that.' Most people felt like it was a close fight and that Oscar came to fight. [Many] fans believe Oscar won the fight."
Schaefer said he asked De La Hoya about his interest in a rematch.
"I said, 'What do you think' because I had been reading everywhere that Floyd Mayweather was calling Oscar out for a rematch," Schaefer added: "Oscar told me he respects Mayweather, but he is not going to do a rematch.'
"Oscar thinks Mayweather is a great fighter and it was a great promotion. It's not like he doesn't deserve a rematch or anything like that. It's more like been there done that, move on. What the 'move on' part means I don't know. It's not the time to discuss it. When he wants to he will come and talk to me. There is not an urgency."
Schaefer then added: "We all know that Oscar is not going to fight again in 2007."
Who should Oscar fight next ??

Bob Arum and Don King . He's not a fighter anymore. He's a promoter.
Funny he was just in the biggest PPV in boxing history as both ..Thanks for that reply :patsch

Trinidad, there both in the same boat in terms of activity and close in popularity, both cant go out on there most recent fights so both would be gunning for the win and it would be huge. Make it happen.

And proved that he is no longer an elite fighter. In his prime he would have showed up. The only reason he didn't get KTFO is because he was fighting a feather fist.
If you honestly think he can't han with the elite after the Mayweather fight please stop watching boxing right now ..And here's a news flash there has only been 1 man to KO Oscar and that was Hopkins ,Who was a middle weight ..

as of right now the only fight i would really be that intrested in out of the choices provided would be a mayweather rematch.....i thought oscar won the first fight and would like to see if he would do more in the rematch to convince some others

Sure he could fight with the elite boxers, but he'll never be himslef anymore. Why should he hang around to be 2nd best. He has money, doesn't have IRS trouble lurking, and has already had a HOF career. Boxers never know when to call it a career, but I think it's time. No disrespect to Oscar; I just don't want him to go out like RJJ.
And its easier to tell someone to call it quits when we sit behind the keyboard ..I doubt he goes out like Jones considering he isn't going up to heavy and coming back down ..He still creates a buzz and is defeaintly needed since boxing has yet to secure an heir apparent to the Golden Boy or fill the void left by Tyson at Heavy ..

Fuckin DLH.. Its fighting once a year that hurts him more than anything.
Trinidad or Margarito/Cotto would be fine with me. A catch weight and a fight with Hatton in the U.S. or even U.K. could possibly surpase the DLH/Mayweather fight. Only if it were to take place overseas though.

If he absolutely must fight again, I'd like to see him finish the job with Tito, or let PBF lose a step or two and K him TFO.
I honestly think the main reason that he won't fight Floyd again
Is for fear of boring the fans to death with his play it safe style .
I think he will either chose Tito or challenge Winky at 154 if he beats Hopkins ..

I think PBFs style is a major reason aswell, he knows people arent stupid enough to fool for the "this is gonna be a slug fest" promotion again. Trinidad is hes best option, there both coming off of losses to p4p fighters and both need to finish there careers in style. This would sell and id love to see it.

I'm a De La Hoya fan but I have a bad feeling if he steps in the ring with any of those guys except Tito he might get hurt badly.

let pbf retire who even cares.
delahoya should fight tito or cotto.

A fight with Tito could be made plus there is unfinished business ..I'd love for Cotto to get an oppurtunity ..He looks to be the next big thing ..A fight with Oscar does wonders for his popularity .

Tito vs De La Hoya should be the measuring stick for ODH to see if he might have any chance versus Cotto because IMO I think the Mayweather fight took alot out of The Golden Boy. ODH doesn't need to prove himself anymore he just needs to continue his promoting and help the up and coming stars.

How can you compare Tito to Cotto ?2 totally diffrent styles ..

if he fights tito and beats him then he fights cotto in his last fight, if he fights tito and loose, tito fights cotto in a HUGE fight between 2 PRicans... awsome scenarios
mendozatheman
06-17-2007, 04:35 PM
If he can't beat a past his prime Tito then he would'nt be able to handle Cotto BUT if he looks good he MIGHT have a chance. Yeh you're right about them having different styles though.

I don't want to see ODH stay around too long like JCC. But yeh if Tito looks good he could possible have a huge fight with Cotto and hopefully they could meet at 154 because i've heard that Tito said he doesn't want to go below 160.

Shoot that will never happen I can't see Oscar trying to match JCC's fight total of over a 100 fights ..In order for a fight with Tito to happen Oscar might have to take a page out of Floyd's book and stay at a certain weight and le Tito come in at 160 ..And since there would be no belt so there will be no santioning bodies beefing the fighters about a particular weight ..

Nah i'm not talking about him fighting over 100 fights i'm talking about how JCC was still be stubborn by trying to fight the young up and comers while everyone knew he was pretty much shot for some years already.

I doubt OSCAR will do that as he is taking 1 fight a year unlike Chavez who just got in the ring with whom ever would fight him toward the end of his career .

Team Mayweather also claims that the main reason Oscar doesn't want a remacth is because Floyd wooped that ass ?? When ass whoopings come to mind I think of Hagler Hearns Manny Morales NOT Mayweaher Delahoya !

Who cares.....DLH hasn't been DLH since Clinton was president.

I think DLH is denying PBF a rematch for 3 reasons:
1. He knows it wouldn't be as big as their first fight in terms of $$$, due to PBF's boring style.
2. A last 'fuck you' to PBF by ensuring he cannot make megabucks off DLHs name a second time.
3. As a way of forcing PBF to fight SSM.
As for who he should fight next, I think Tito - that would still attract big numbers due to the 'revenge' factor, and huge fanbase in the US and PR.

If he can force Mayweather to fight Mosley i'm all for it ..I think most people would rather see that fight instead ..Its still a win win for MW and he gets a nice check why not .

I can see him beating Cotto sometime next year, pissing off Tito, which would lead to a big money fight.

Oscar should ditch the quest for belts and only fight 10 round non-title fights.
I'm sure they could spin it into some "belts are meaningless/we're saving boxing" BS.
Either way, Oscar in a 12 round fight against an elite AND durable fighter? My bet is he fades down the stretch. That's where the safe money is.

i'd go for trinidad. good fight for both of them because dlh is past his prime and tito has been inactive for a while. the fight may get a little sloppy at times but a good strong ppv nonetheless

spot on mate. if he had of been more active, mayweather would of got destroyed plain and simple.
he is going to get humiliated if this inactivity continues. oscar will find that the well has run dry
The golden boy would still be the best in the world if he was more active
And proved that he is no longer an elite fighter. In his prime he would have showed up. The only reason he didn't get KTFO is because he was fighting a feather fist.
Umm, he took the best fighter in the world to a SD............

Why are there 140 pound and 160 pound fighters on that list anyway. DLH vs. Hatton? Are you crazy?

DLH should retire...
but if he doesn't he should fight cotto or margo.
Winky is too big and too skilled for him at this point, and it probably lead to a lopsided boring loss imo.
