View Full Version : Wasnt expecting mayweather to look that much larger then hatton..
I know he started below him, but i think if hatton was a gym rat like mayweather he would have started there too.... there is no denying that mayweather is a larger dude... but i expected them to be a bit closer, maybe i need to see some more photos.
at any rate...
there will be no excuses come fight night. I, along with other hatton fans, have been shouting for this fight for years, along with hatton himself.... the size differance i dont think is big enough to be a decidiing factor, and mayweather DID start below him so its all good.

Mayweather is the taller guy, but Hatton is naturally thicker and naturally physically stronger than Floyd. He is a really strong guy for being only 5'6"
I really want to see Hatton win this, but I can't go against Mayweather.

PBF by UD or late round TKO. PBF is simply better than Hatton just like he was better than Oscar and everyone before him. Hatton is screwed in this fight he doesn't have a jab to keep PBF honest. To prepare for this fight as a fan I have been watching as much hatton as possible lately and I've noticed that he often looks smaller then most jr wws he faces (even in terms of width). He's still stronger then them and he still bullies them around the ring though. He's just got a sterdy compact frame that makes him very strong.

Though i dont agree that there will be a stoppage, i can def see your scenario playing out. I think people will be suprised how strong mayweather will be inside.
Jesus, Hatton has a fucking rough mug. I have to say he has the look of a fighter though.
I remember in The Ring magazine a few moths ago, there was a picture of Carmen Basilio squashing Hatton's nose down, because he didn't seem to think Hatton looked like enough of a fighter :lol:

It will. I've always said the key to beating PBF is a good jab to go with being a lanky southpaw with good pop and stamina.

Other than being taller Mayweather really wasnt that much larger than Hatton in terms of thicknes. Hatton is very stocky and muscular for only being 5'6. i think he is decpetively strong

Regarding Hattons strengh, there was some lab that did punch force calculations (pictures included) of Hatton blasting some target. It was said that the average man hits the target @ about 200 Lbs. of force. If I remember correctly, Hatton hit it at about 800 lbs! Did anyone else see that lab test?
About a week or two after I saw that lab test Hatton blasted Castillo to the side in the 4th. When people said Castillo took I dive, I just thought the guy got nailed by somone who hits 4 x as hard as the average man!
Regarding Mayweathers strengh, I think like young Ali's it's somewhat underrated. He's takin and delivered some serious shots over the years. Still, I think Hatton is a bit stronger.
The outcome of this fight hinges on speed. If Hatton is faster than many give him credit for (I think he's faster than people think), he will have a real good shot at winning. Otherwise, long night for Ricky Hatton.

From the pic, it looks about an inch and a half difference.
Seems that most already anticipated that and it should have little difference on the pick.
Outside = Floyd
Inside = Hatton

i see mayweather winning this fight as he is the best all round talent i have seen since i have watched boxing since the 1970`s, but just a few points for hatton.
hatton does have fast hands , and the handspeed will not be a factoor for either fighter i beleive.
when he wants to he really has a huge pole of a jab, albeit it is a single lead jab , sort of like a haglers where he leaps in with it.
floyd always tucks his chin down and tucks away to his right, and hatton is a constant left hooker.
on the downside , hatton kept at range is a sitting duck and mayweather is the best fighter in the world to keep hatton at such a range and tee off on him.

A couple of times Ive read about how when Hatton first met Mayweather face to face and in HAtton's own words he was surprised how small Mayweather looked and that he thought there was no way Mayweather could keep him off for 12 rounds. That was going back a couple of years but we all know just because a figher adds a few pounds and goes up a division it doesn't mean they suddenly become far stronger in the ring.
Everyone is so wrapped up with who's the bigger/stronger man when I think the fight will rest far more on footwork and stamina.

Height does not equal size.
Mayweather has fought more than 70% of his career at featherweight, that's his natural weight.
Hatton has fought just about his entire career at 140lbs, although I've seen him walking around at 180lbs at times.
Hatton is certainly the bigger, stronger fighter.

Hatton could fight 135 - the guy routinely loses 60lbs per fight because he gets himself so out of shape, finding another 5lbs for a weigh in wouldn't be a problem
When he gets a wee bit older than he is now, he might find it a lot harder to get away with.
Where are you coming from with this 60lbs weight loss? The most Hatton has ever been over-weight is three stones, 42lbs, when he started training for Tszyu.
At least that what is stated on Ricky's website. It's a very insightful site, especially the thread with Hatton's nutritionist & strength coach, Kerry Kayes. JKerry is one of the best in the business & a lot of fighters could learn a great deal from him if they had him in their camp!

I disagree completely. Hatton has a jab when he needs it. Look at the Kostya fight. His jab ramrolled Kostya at times.
Hatton is an all round fighter and those that dismiss him as a slugger or limited fighter are those that will have egg on their faces.
Hatton takes Floyd to the wire in a way OLD oscar just fell short of.
