Tony Demarco's Heart - How Big Was It?

I haven't seen that much footage on him but he was never Knocked out in his career. He's been stopped, dropped, bleeding, hurt, but nobody KOed him. Basilio had him reeling and dropped consecutively and Tony got up to start brawling right back with him. He was hurt badly but didn't clinch and just went right back after him. Guy had some serious guts/heart. Everyone talks about Marciano, Basilio, Ali, Frazier, when it comes to heart but I think Tony Demarco is right up there with those guys.

Marciano commented on the Basilio vs Demarco fight as the "roughest toughest fight I've ever seen."

That's not a KO. He got up being badly heart. I'd say DeMarco had as much heart as just about any other fighter.

Not sure what you mean, DeMarco was completely out on at the end of the fight.

That shouldn't take away from him having a ton of heart though.

Tony had one of the biggest hearts in boxings. Kinda of like todays Gatti, but with more skills behide Tony is the best I can say. When he is outclass badly, like Carman did in bout 2, his heart is what held him up until the end.

Exactly. It was amazing and almost stupid in a way to see DeMarco not clinch but try bombing back. He was on last legs but gutting it out and pulling himself with such heart. I've seen the highlights with Marciano commentating too. Nice fight.

I'm a big Basilio fan but Tony impresses me in the 1st fight. The way he got up and almost tried firing back - dare I say it was Arturo Gatti esque. Sort of almost looked like a Rocky movie. And not fighting smart doesn't neccessarily translate heart, but him pulling himself up. You could tell it's like losing wasn't even an option in his head. People say Cotto is a warrior with loads of heart. I think the warrior tag gets labeled far too much. Cotto beck-peddled his way into taking a knee. Granted he is incredible tough with much heart, but guys like Demarco how have to be killed or slaughtered to be finished and get up and don't go down or take a knee for no one shows the immaculate spirit and heart of a fighter.

being out on his feet or even KO'd doesn't detract from the size of his heart.just like basilio he had a huge fighting heart

I'd say Cotto is a warrior, theTirres and Clottey fights show much he's willing to take, I personally feel Margarito probably did tamper with his gloves, Cotto looks like an armadillo at the end. Accepting defeat after having your face rearranged in a high paced affair does not mean he's not a warrior. I think he will show his chin (still gets questioned) and heart (some question marks due to the Marg fight bug I have already expressed my thoughts in the matter) in the Pac fight.

He may be, but he isn't in the realm of DeMarco where heart is concerned as far as I'm concerned.
