Yes, met the World Champ in fight one, the #1 contender in his second bout.

Pete Rademacher would be it, than again most of Patterson's title foes had the hardest match up early lol.

Larry Holmes is a close 2nd.

Holyfield had to fight a pretty damn tough Quawi in ony his 12th pro fight 18 months or so into his career. And there was no turning back after that.

i'd say that qualifies.

What about Pernell getting robbed in France. I think Ramirez had 100 wins and Sweat Pea had 15 fights. Davey Moore against Duran

Saoul Mamby. How so? The best guys he faced in his first 25-30 fights were Victor Ortiz and notable journeyman Angel Robinson Garcia.

Jim Jeffries would have to be in any discussion about hard matching early in your career.

Faced Edwin Viruet in his 14th fight, which was a draw.Viruet was around the same point in his career, though. Neither man had taken on anything resembling world class opposition by that point.

Leon Spinks was thrown in with a faded Ali in only his 8th pro fight and got away with it, and partyed the title away in the rematch in his 9th fight. But in in his 10th fight he was put in with an undefeated Gerrie Coetzee overseas and was blasted out of there in 1 round. In his 15th fight he was thwown in with Larry Holmes and taken out in 3. Although he beat a shot Ali, being thrown in so soon into his career didnt allow Leon to develop properly into a world class professional like he should have.
