The online revoluton continues, is it really the future of the sport? This time Lee McAllister takes on Charlie King for the Commonwealth Lightweight title on Saturday 17th October on 110sport.com
SCOTS SPORTING TITLES ANNOUNCE TITLE FIGHT DEAL
05/10/2009
TWO of the most famous business names in Scottish sport have today joined forces in a groundbreaking broadcast partnership.
The St Andrew’s Sporting Club and 110sport Group have reached agreement for 110sport.tv to broadcast the forthcoming Commonwealth Lightweight title fight between hol[Only registered and activated users can see links] Lee McAllister and Charlie King in Aberdeen on Saturday, 17 October.
110sport.tv will broadcast the fight and the undercard online, a deal which St Andrew’s owner Tommy Gilmour says can only be good news for Scottish boxing.
“This is a partnership between two renowned Scots brands whose reach goes way beyond Scotland. I am delighted we have come to an agreement for this fight to be streamed live and exclusively by 110sport.tv,” said Gilmour.
“Our association stretches back to the days when my grandfather managed and promoted the father of 110’s President, Ian Doyle.
“We are always looking for ways to take boxing to a wider audience – and this agreement gives us access to a massive market and a potential global audience.
“This was always going to be a special fight for Scotland. But it could now be a special fight for the future of Scottish boxing.”
For 110sport Group, Chief Executive Dave MacKinnon said; “Sport today is all about innovation and we are delighted that Tommy Gilmour has been willing to join us in this venture. This is an exciting opportunity for all concerned and one that could revolutionise boxing.
"The chance to be involved with this fight, with Aberdeen’s Lee McAllister taking on Charlie King from Motherwell - billed by many as ‘Granite versus Steel’ – was too good an opportunity to miss.
“And I am sure fight fans the length and breadth of the country won’t want to miss this fight night either – which will cost just £3.99 to watch live and exclusively on 110sport.tv.”

£4 for that? I suppose its better than no coverage whatsoever, which there probably wouldn't be otherwise. At least people have the choice.
I'm skeptical as to how well it would do. £5 for a world class fight maybe...

i was thinking about this too. this whole 12.99 for cards online just isnt going to fly imo, nowhere near enough people will buy
for example ****** should stick the rogan fight online seeing as how hes geting no tv but id say 2.50 would be fair and popular for that card.
big vegas fights with p4p contenders could be about a tenner, but anything below that is pushing their luck with anything more than a fiver online i think

I'd pay up to a fiver to watch that online, its interests me more than M'Baye vs McCloskey.

Lee McAllister defends his Commonwealth lightweight title against fellow Scot Charlie King in Aberdeen on October 17, a 12-rounder to be screened online.
McAllister, who enjoys home advantage and goes by the nickname of “The Aberdeen Assassin”, won the title in the summer with a three-round stoppage of Ghana’s Godfriend Sowah, who clearly lacked God on his side in Aberdeen’s packed Beach Ballroom and was down before the stoppage. That was a solid display because Ghanaians rarely get floored, let alone stopped, and McAllister has come back well from an eight-round defeat to Manchester’s streaking John Murray in a crack at the British lightweight title at the start of the year. At 29-2 (6), the champion enjoys real experience over King, 15-1 (0), who was eliminated in Prizefighter by Sunderland’s Paul Holborn in Glasgow in March (pts 3) for his only defeat but came back with a good win over Bolton’s rangy Jon Hussey in Glasgow in June (pts 6).
Hussey was 13-1 going into that one.
King is not a banger but has fought on one of McAllister’s undercards in Aberdeen and will know what to expect. The Motherwell stylist also holds the Scottish lightweight title which he won with a 10-round decision over Stuart Green in Glasgow in January and gives an interesting little edge to this ‘derby’ affair. Yes, McAllister is the sharper puncher and a clever boxer himself with good stamina but this is a cup final for King and form can go out of the window on such occasions.
Nevertheless, McAllister, who is lucky to be fighting at all after an horrific hit-and-run smash a few years ago which left him without a spleen, looks too tough and ‘rounded’ for his man and punches and boxes his way to a rip-roaring stoppage.

I'd pay this just to see the atmosphere in the Beach Ballroom alone.
Apparently it's always packed to the rafters and one of the noisiest, most intimidating places that any away fighter could go to.
It'll be even louder when the Aberdonians find out that they are live on t'internet.

Guess who wont be paying, thats right, ME!
I would rather give up the sport than pay to watch internet streams. I love boxing, but the day it gets too hard to watch fights I will simply walk away from the sport.
& its boxings fault, not mines.
Seriously, boxing needs to get its act together and fast. 4 quid to watch a nothing fight online on a dodgy stream, whats the bloody sport coming to?

Nope its a lovely venue for sure but there's nothing intimidating about a load of pissed up, old blokes singing flower of Scotland while their local boxer waltzes round the ring, clinching every two seconds, gets knocked down twice- gets a point taken off for holding and gets awarded a shocking decision.
Then the video never, ever surfaces. And the Boxing News don't send reporters that far, they take the report of McAllisters best mate at the argyle who just happens to be one of the least knowledgable and shodiest boxing writers in the country.
They should call it the fight club because whatever happens in the Ballroom stays in the ballroom. :rofl

Hmmmmmmm bitter? Yeah i'm in pieces. Nah not bitter- just as a young boxer wanted a fair crack instead of getting jobbed by some divvy referee.
Its probably better in the long run that I lost that fight.

If they're trying to make it PPV online, it's going to be even harder than flogging it on the TV.

So did Brendan Ingle- and I got jobbed against Hardcastle too- how am I bitter by stating my opinion you tit? :huh... Twice the referee picked him off the canvas after he collapsed, once from a body shot and once from a head shot and I also nearly stopped him in the fifth when he was all over the place. Ask Lee himself. It doesn't matter now and i'm really not arsed anymore but lets be honest its hardly intimidating going to some pavillion by the sea!!! Its hardly death row!!

Lee McAllister knocked out Charlie King with a stunning right hook to retain his Commonwealth lightweight title. McAllister dominated the fight but King had stood up well until he was caught by a hammer blow in the seventh round in Aberdeen's Beach Ballroom.
It was an impressive performance from McAllister, who won the title in June when he beat Godfriend Sowah, and may now earn a crack at the European crown.
The 27-year-old from Aberdeen improved his record to 30 wins in 32 contests.
He began as a big favourite against an opponent who had never boxed over 12 rounds and only once over 10.
In an otherwise even opener at the Beach Ballroom, McAllister landed one or two telling blows which King appeared to take well.
The champion continued to pick holes in King's defence but unwisely began taunting his opponent as early as the second.
King refused to be provoked in a cagey third round before the fight exploded into life in the next, with McAllister rocking the 26-year-old back more than once.
King responded on the counter but continued to be caught in the fifth and sixth.
The fight was over early in the next, this time a magnificent right from from McAllister knocking out King, who slumped against the ropes and was counted out.
McAllister said: "I took my time, I didn't have the zip about me. I got myself warmed up about the sixth round."
Of his knockout blow, he added: "If my right connects with anyone, I'm banging them out, no matter who they are."
He also had words of praise for King, saying: "He's from the steel city of Motherwell and he's as hard as steel."
Seems like it was a good performance from Mcallister, anyone there?
good night?

Jeff what you need is a writer and a semi-hometown venue and you just might end up getting a european title shot. Maybe Gpater can do the writing :happy

Ha ha anyone would think Lee McAllister had turned into Julian Jackson with that report. Decent win for Lee but i#ve never rated King anyway who by all accounts lost to Johnny Rocco too. The only form he's got was when Tommy Gilmour manipulated the Prizefighter set up...
