Dokes. Stil fairly fast, strong and powerful. Chagaev would be at a reach disadvantage without the all-out ferocity Holy posseses.

Barring Dokes tiring late, I see Dokes via points.

same as fleaman,

a plodding chagev would be picked apart against the fast hands of dokes

well, Chagaev is a good boxer himself, and let's not forget he overcame a much bigger height/reach deficit when he beat Valuev. I just think Dokes has more tools than Valuev.

Wlad makes people look bad. Chagaev and Dokes had their share of good and bad performances.

Has Dokes ever fought a highly ranked southpaw?

Then again, so did 46 year old Holyfield, at least unofficially. ;)

I think the kind of pressure and handspeed that Dokes brought to the table in 1989 would have prevailed over Ruslan Chagaev.

mendoza when wlad beat chagaev it looked like a sparring session
chagaev looked like it was a huge effort for him to throw more than one punch at a time.
i am not trying to take anything away from wlad he can only beat who he is put in the ring with but i do think he could of stopped chagaev any time after the 4th round

Chagaev hasnt been the same since the Hepatitis, he looked a much better more fluid fighter before, after he looked about 60 the way he plodded. So Dokes certainly beats this version in a 1 sided fashion, take him from a few years ago and its more competitive

Out of all of these 80s heavy v. 90s heavy threads, this is the one where I think the 90s heavy wins. Dokes had a great fight with Holy but was stopped, and Holyfield has a reputation for fighting down to the opponents level anyway. Dokes accomplished almost nothing in the late 80s too. Chagaev has consistently gotten the job done except against Wlad, but I'll give Chagaev some slack because Wlad shuts down a lot of fighters. Chagaev by decision.
