I hate it because it makes it look like all of use boxing fans are whiney little bitches that can't deal with the fact that there is another popular combat sport out there.

Marquess of Queensberry Rules has been going for 140 or so years. For the last 100 years I suspect there may of been at least one boxing show every single day....
When MMA/UFC/ABZ has reached that level (by default that is at least 100 years away), then they be talked with the likes boxing, the greatest sport ever.
So I guess I am one of them who cares. Remember one ant can be squashed like that, but a colony can kill you. It is best to destroy MMA before it gains a foot hold and can destroy a currently weak boxing.

Well Ring Toss and Horseshoes have co existed for many years and their similar:deal
I don't think one will go away....they will make room for both once the rivalry dies down.

I thought it was TNA wrestling.
WWE is so much bigger than MMa.
A thread about not caring about a rivalry, and your dumb ass makes a completely worthless cut at one of the great sports. I really hope you die of some sort of terrible disease.

Boxing is the greatest sport- all other forms of hand to hand combat including wreslting, judo, mui tai, and mma are also pretty cool.
Hell, I watch sumo when I find it on.

This rivalry is pretty stupid. Kids always needs to 'join' something.

09-19-2007, 10:06 PM
I don't care at all. I think it's really stupid. It's like comparing tennis to golf - why don't people ever ask what would happen if Tiger got on the court with Federer, or vice versa? Because it's a retarded comparison of two completely different sports!!!

MMA has nothing to do with boxing. I probably wouldnt care about the rivalry if there really was a rivalry. But I dont even see it as that.
Boxing is here to stay MMa has alot to prove.
I can see the general public getting tired of it soon

The fans and the promoters of both can suck pretty hard.

add me completely not interested
I like combat sports, all of them, boxing was my first love though. Only way to make boxing competetive with MMA is to give fans interesting world class matchups, just doesn't happen often enough these days. Boxing hasn't re-invested in itself. Promoters arent providing gyms for kids that once existed via Government support 20-30 years ago. MMA is all inclusive, so they don't have to worry about it.. Boxing is simply reaping what it has sewed, or not sewed sadly..
If promoters like Don King put money in low income areas to fund youth boxing programs, we would have a huge talent pool in the states. Don't blame MMA for boxing shortcommings.

Boxing has been here a long time. MMA is a basically an entirely new sport and has a short track record albeit fairly promising. But talk to me in 40 years and then maybe we can discuss whether MMA has staying power and has taken fanbase away from boxing.
In 40 years I can virtually guarantee that boxing will still be around. I'm not sure that I can say the same thing for MMA. Right now there's not enough depth in the ranks of the MMA and that apparently is a problem that a promoter that I spoke to in Tampa says. He told me putting on MMA cards is a struggle not because he can't sell tickets but because it's hard to get a card to come off. Maybe in time it will attract more participants but the truth is boxing has seen an erosion in the number of fighters and cards and that doesn't bode well for either sport.

4.5 million viewers tuned in to there last card.
That doesn't mean it's a "threat to boxing" :deal
I don't give a shit because I feel its been manifested by insecure boxing fans who are bitter at the decline of boxing in mainstream America and are now getting resentful at the sudden success MMA is having attracting fans who know and care fuck-all about boxing.
In reality though, there is no logical answer to the question "Why would someone being attracted to MMA suddenly be more turned off to Boxing???"
MMA isn't "stealing fans" they are just attracting fans. More specifically I doubt anyone has said "Oh, I used to like boxing but now I don't because MMA is getting popular" :nut If anything they now share common fans and each have a group of fans who aren't interested in the other. :deal

Thatīs 0,5 less than people do here for a boxing show and Germany just has a population of 80 million.
I swear German big fights get about ten mil watching.
Khan got 5mil or so for his last amateur fight.
Williams v Sprott II got 2.5mil and that was on in the middle of the day.
People need to stop its MMA v American boxing. Boxing is world wide and going strong.
Calzaghe and Hatton fill out stadiums with no problem.
Britain, Germany etc have big boxing and so does Australia, South Africa etc
Did no one watch Mundine v Green? That shit was huge in Australia.
KhanB
09-20-2007, 09:17 PM
Boxing is big in germany but isn't scat porn and David Hastlehoff's band also popular there. Let's not judge the merit of something on wheather or not germans will watch it on tv. Those people are fucked up.
