Jimmy would drive Bert nuts. Somewhat overlooked when considering Young's defensive skills is the fact that he could also take a tremendous punch to the head or body. Cooney destroyed Lyle with his body attack, but Jimmy just shrugged it off. Shavers decked Young in their rematch, but Jimmy came roaring back. Cooper wouldn't like that very much if he also managed to somehow score a knockdown.
As explosive as Bert was, Young would have too many tricks and too much resilience for Cooper to overcome.

Young would probably do what Carl Williams did to him.
I love Bert Cooper to, he was an extremely entertaining fighter to watch, however id have to say Young's speed long rang game would be too much for him.

Young, one of my favorite unsung boxers of all time, would have a field day against Cooper, and make him look like a frustrated fool.

Young UD. Young is too scientific, fast, and slick to get ko'd by Cooper. he was very durable as well. i just don't think young would brawl with Cooper like Cooper would want to. he would use his jab to the body to break down Cooper in a close UD.

Young has a ball making Cooper miss and slapping him around for a big decision win.

Do you know if Young was ever sparked out, or heavily knocked out?

Nah...
Young wins a decision, but didn't have the power in his right to pound Cooper the way that the truth did. Young was a great boxer, but Carl could also punch - something that Jimmy couldn't.

even though young really didn't have that many KOs- he still had a nice counter right hand with some pop. knocked down foreman and stunned Ali.

True, but a knockout over any halfway decent chinned fighter, is still highly unlikely... Cooper didn't exactly have an iron jaw, but he certainly survived some huge bombs, and Young didn't throw those too often...

Young was thrown in against Earnie Shavers in like his 10th fight. Badly overmatched at that point. It wasn't a KO though, but a TKO. Young said "Shavers just bloodied my nose" and they stopped it. He was stopped at the end by Cooney. In between that, damn hard to hit and never sparked out.

p.s. Meant to add, the Cooney fight was stopped due to a cut. I think Bert Cooper had little chance of getting him outta there.
