Pacquiao foe wants Katsidis
FORMER world lightweight champ and Manny Pacquiao victim David Diaz wants to fight Aussie rock Michael Katsidis.
Diaz, a former Kostya Tszyu sparring partner, is coming off a tough decision over another former world champ Jesus Chavez, who was badly mauled by Katsidis in his previous bout.
``I would definitely be interested in Katsidis and up to the task,’’ Diaz told ***********.com.
``Him being the WBO belt holder definitely makes it an attractive fight for me and I would like it if we can get it done.’’
Diaz said the Chavez fight in Chicago was ``a good tough fight that we needed to have in order for us to try to get back in and get in title contention. I think we did ok. We didn't do good or great and it just showed the ring rust I had due to the 15 months I had off.
``You know its a learning experience and we will move on from there and get better and get back in the gym.
Scores were 97-93, 96-94, 95-95.
``I thought the scores were pretty accurate considering the way I was fighting,’’ he said.
if JMM doesnt fight him hes got this or the England fight lined up.good to see an aussie making big noise OS.:thumbsup

It's a tougher fight than what you would expect.I think Diaz is being down graded to shit status.Ridiculous if you ask me.This guy is tough, and can give Katsidis a difficult fight.

MIck wont take Diaz, he easily stopped Chavez. Hatton is still on the cards, if he decides to fight again if not it's world title time again with JMM

If he can't get a big money fight, Mick will fight Diaz in a heart beat.
Brendan wants to keep Katsidis active and would love to be fighting every three months. One thing he wont do is stay idle for too long. If it means less money and lesser names, they will still take it.

Manchester, Lancashire, United Kingdom .
I ain't heared anything about a katsidis fight but Murray can fight and ain't afraid to travel , Kats v Murray would be a war imo , if its held here Kats would get massive support from the Aussies down in Kangaroo Valley ( Earls Court ) and respect from british fight fans after his short but brisk war with Earl .
If Murray did fight Katsidis i reckon Kats would be a clear winner , the lad is only 23 years old or so and lacks experience at the level kats has consitently fought at imo .

nice work sir.
I can understand loyalty and that Kat wants to hold onto Smith. Thats totally fair enough. What should happen is that he should stay with Smith and get a world class trainer to assist with training, introduce a new skillset perhaps. That would abe a win-win situation. Often its important to have someone in your corner who has been through it all with you...

I don't get why people are so desperate to see Katsidis with another trainer. The bloke is nearly 30 years old. I can't see anything else getting added that's not already there. He's a pressure fighter with heavy hands, it's worked well for him so far.

agreed, in his last fight he seemed to have addressed any glaring shortcomings in his defence. People in boxing are often too quick to dismiss the work of a trainer who builds a fighter and instead credits a name trainer with someone else's work

He was beating Casamayor when he got sloppy. There's not a thing Smith could do for him there. Juan Diaz is always going to be a tough fight for Mick. He has pretty much everything Mick does, plus more boxing ability.
buster007
10-24-2009, 09:57 PM
yes he got sloppy vs casamayor but he was also lucky to make it past rnd 1.
vs juan diaz and any others in future, the better defence could be the difference between winning and losing a world title. surely that's a good enough reason.
and yes i agree that kats will always have the fenech mentality and it mostly works well for him. but if he wants to do well against marquez and even pacman, he has to alter his style more surely.
i'd like to see him fight both these guys but wouldn't like to just see him get pummeled from pillar to post..

with his style he is capable of beating anybody at the top level but he is vulnerable too against fighters he should beat.
i'll cheer no matter how or who he fights. he's aussie and he's all class outside the ring too.
ipswich express
10-25-2009, 08:13 AM
And that's where I disagree. I don't think he is capable of beating "everyone" at the top level. However, he's at the top and I hope he can do it.

IMO he has improved in each fight since his losses.Ramirez he won but could have looked better but Chavez and Escobedo were great performances.he wont beat Pac if Pac accepts one of his challenges but him and his trainer obviously do and good luck too him hope he proves me wrong.

for a guy that has a rubbish trainer and fairly limited skills he has done very well, he is a warrior and a good true blue aussie, great guy and a great fighter
would love to see him go with roach or even mcgirt, he needs to be shown how to utilise his power... the guy is obviously strong but has a tendency to slap and telegraph some of his punches instead of putting his weight into it - watch him in the Juan Diaz fight in the later rounds... with a good trainer he could be so much more

Few things...
Marquez fight is top of their list obviously
Kats missus having a baby in Dec, so that's a priority right now.
Their is another possibility should the Marquez fight not eventuate. nfd there.
Diaz and Murray have never been discussed. They wont be happening anytime soon.

I'd like to see Kats rematch Casamayor then Hatton. I think Kats has the power to surprise Hatton. Styles make fights & Hattons is perfect for Kats & his chin doesn't seem to be what it was anymore. Both good money earnings & winnable fights for our real Oz champion.

buddy mcgirt has a tendency to make fighters fight like he did so would be rubbish for katsidis and roach is decent enough yet there seems to be nothing wrong with brendon smith and katsidis as a team. Also i think katsidis turns his hands over well for his shots and only "slaps" when throwing excessive flurries like he did against earl

JMM, Cassamayor and Hatton would be a good choice of opponent for the Katsidis team.
31st January will see Katsidis have a day in the ring with plenty of admirers, officials and prospects watching on. A true warrior from Oz on a path travelled by other world boxing champions ready to tackle what is put before him - Respect, Honour, Determination, Heart & Soul.
I hope KMA readers read the Michael Katsidis article and take in the amount of pressure he has been in over the last year or so, fighting and training away from home. I will be supporting his next fight, enjoying it from the comfort from my own home zone [Only registered and activated users can see links]
