[Only registered and activated users can see links] next month marking the two-year anniversary of his championship win (and most recent appearance in the organization), Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem will next meet Tony Sylvster at the Oct. 17 Golden Glory event.

The MMA matchup, which serves as the co-main event, was one of 14 recently announced for the hybrid MMA and K-1 card.

The show, which celebrates Golden Glory 10th's anniversary, takes place in Overeem's hometown of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

Past reports had suggested Overeem would fight Sam Hogar or Siala-Mou "Mighty Mo" Siligia at the show, though Sylvester ultimately got the call.

Ever since Strikeforce signed famed heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko two months ago, fans have speculated about a title fight with Overeem, who's 4-0 (with one no-contest) in his past five fights, under the Strikeforce banner. Emelianenko, though, will first meet Brett Rogers on Nov. 7 at Strikeforce's CBS-televised event near Chicago. If victorious at the event, Emelianenko could meet Overeem for the title in early 2010.

Of course, the fight could lose some luster if Overeem (29-11-1) suffers a loss to Sylvster (11-2), an Ohio-based heavyweight who's 8-1 over the past four years; the lone loss came to current UFC fighter Chris Tuchscherer at YAMMA Pit Fighting's only show, which was held in April 2008.

Additionally, just eight days after the Glory fight, Overeem is expected to compete at DREAM.12, when the Japanese-based organization debuts a cage (rather than the customary roped ring) for the first time. Overeem has been featured in promos for the Oct. 25 event, though no opponent has been announced.

The full Golden Glory 11 lineup includes:

Alexei Ignashov vs. Semmy Schilt (K1)
Alistair Overeem vs. Tony Sylvester (MMA)
Faldir Chahbari vs. Nieky Holzken (K1)
Siyar Bahadurzada vs. Robert Jocz (MMA)
Hesdy Gerges vs. Ruslan Karaev (K1)
Rodney Glunder vs. Dion Staring (MMA)
Wendell Roche vs. Errol Zimmerman (K1)
Nikolai Onikienko vs. Valentijn Overeem MMA
Stefan Leko vs. Anderson "Braddock" Silva (K1)
Tommy Depret vs. Vincent Latoel (MMA)
Halim Issaoui vs. Ali Gunyar (K1)
Hracho Darpinyan vs. Jason Jones (MMA)
Krista Fleming vs. Titiana van Polanen Petel (K1)
Nils van Noort vs. Hans Stringer (MMA)

Alistair Overeem Destroys Tony Sylvester in MMA Mismatch

Alistair Overeem ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) hasn't fought in the United States since winning the Strikeforce heavyweight championship two years ago, but on Saturday he beat an overmatched American, Tony Sylvester, in Golden Glory's Ultimate Glory 11 event in Amsterdam.

Overeem's first-round submission win was short and not particularly good: Overeem landed a hard knee to Sylvester's face, knocked him to the ground, landed a couple of punches, let him back up, and then forced him to tap with a standing guillotine choke. The whole fight lasted just under a minute and a half. Sylvester never went on the offensive at all.

Let's hope Overeem, who has a busy schedule ahead of him, fights some better opponents soon. He might fight again next weekend at Dream 12, although an opponent has not been announced, and he is slated to fight in the K-1 World Grand Prix 2009 Final in December. After that he's finally expected to make his return to the United States and defend the Strikeforce heavyweight belt -- maybe against the best heavyweight in the world, Fedor Emelianenko.

A fight with Fedor would be tremendous, and the K-1 World Grand Prix features the best field of kickboxers in the world, so hopefully we'll get to see Overeem, who improved his professional MMA record to 30-11, test himself against high-quality competition going forward. Sylvester, who falls to 11-3, didn't belong in the same ring with him.

Lee Murray sucks^^^^

And silva made him his bitch. So you decided to find one little segment where Lee actually looked most dominating, how pathetic.

No what's pathetic is someone jumping to conclusions WITHOUT any facts.

Anderson won the fight easily, thanks for telling me something I already know, Einstein.

Grow up, OD and learn some manners, you're behaving like a child. :-(

The choice of ava was certainly not put up to reflect badly on Anderson (one of my favourite fighters of all time) or insinuate Murray was dominant in anyway, which I never suggested he was.

YOU jumped to conclusions without any facts, always a dumb move. Not that I have to explain anything to you.

Just strip the guy of the belt its that simple. Once Fedor beats Rogers will anyone give a fuck about Overeem ? Fedor will basically already be the Champion anyway just match Fedor assuming he wins with the Werdum(who already beat Overeem) and Antonio Silva winner.

He's fighting everywhere else but the place he holds the belt? I mean two years? C'mon thats ridiculous. And whats worse is look at this fight?!?! Who the hell was Tony Sylvester?!?!?

I just read this. Overeem has now delivered 29 of his 30 career victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission. Totally useless fact I know. :D Whatever way you look at it, that's very impressive. It shows you how versatile and dangerous he is.

:D What do you think is next for Overeem? Or who would you like to see him face next? He's in serious demand ..

He just needs to get back to Strikeforce and defend his dam title. A two year lay off fighting everywhere else but there is pretty stupid.

Yep, sure does. Good points. Scott Coker said he'll defend his belt early next year.

"You'll see Overeem and some of the (other) fighters early next year."

"Probably late February or early March."
