Ray Robinson vs Rocky Graziano

Holy smoke - What a right hand to end things here in the third round. Admittedly, and this might sting for a few of you here, this was the first ever Ray Robinson fight I've seen in it's entirety. I was impressed with a lot of things performed by the so-called Greatest of all time, notably how he'd double up on his left hook - which I presume was his greatest punch? Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Still, he was controlling things fairly comfortably up until that absolute peach of a right hand. Graziano was cooked. The super fast combination/flurries of Robinson was also impressive. I've often wonder if the footage was sped up because of how violently fast he would throw his hooks. Never looked clumsy or ugly though, Graziano was out of his depth.

He didn't seem terrified in the ring though. Walked right into Robinson's firepower with his usual style and did his best to attempt to rough Sugar Ray up. Unfortunately for him, he also walked into one of the best right hands ever thrown.

I don't think the knockdown of Robinson was much, I'm not sure if I'd even call it a knockdown.

The Robinson-Graziano fight is always a good one to start with when evaluating Robinson. It's easily available in its entirety and in good quality as well, filmed from two different camera angles. The fight only lasts 3 rounds, not overly long, but you basically see what Robinson is made of.

I'd hardly call it a legitimate knockdown. Sure, he went down on the end of a punch but it was clearly a balance issue. Robinson was up on his feet in a split second, and the referee didn't even give a count. Ray destroyed him.

Graziano was never really in the fight, and he didn't even try and jump on Ray because he knew himself it was just a balance thing. Ray would rate very highly in the hand speed department based on this performance and other footage that I've seen. The guy was like a whirlwind when hooking.

Ray Robinson threw an amazing left hook cum uppercut

the angle was superb it was just out of your vision then your hit with this on the neck-chin area was absouloute class and like his left hook hed double up on these whipping blows with some speed.

Yes, Robinson at the end of his prime yrs, Graziano was a feared, crude, slugger, a force to be reckoned with in any era, I think only Tony Zale had KO`d him prior in their trilogy (could be wrong there) & Rocky still managed to KO Zale in one of those fights but its a different game in there with a man who can match up to every style, who was as fluid, fast, determined, accurate & powerful as Ray Robinson.

There is good footage of Robinson out there, the man had & DID it all, he is the best fighter ever, no doubt in my mind... you must check out SRR-JLM 6, the artistry is amazing, Muhammad Ali used to watch that fight repeatedly & study SRRs movements, how he played matador to Jake`s bull then struck like a ruthless assassin when the bull was ready to be taken.

Its amazing that a boxer with such style in the ring could unleash one punch KO`s like he did, punches that Tyson or Louis would picture frame in their own livingroom if they had did such things.... that straight right to KO Graziano (as above, cheers for that, love that punch :thumbsup) & that perfect left hook to KO Fulmer for the 1st & only time in Gene`s career.

Love Rocky as an all time character and great puncher but the Robinson fight showed just the Gatti and Ward of their day, good , tough fighters but levels below all time greats ...
