At least you have two guys here that aren't afraid to mix it up. That sells tickets. Your average 'fan' will believe ANYTHING the announcer tells them to believe. Shortly after Pascal/Froch there was an influx of Froch fans on the board all spouting the same crap we heard from the announcers.

Im pretty sure they would both beat the shit out of Wladimir Klitschko. In fact, any MMA fighter would beat a boxer. MMA fighters are real fighters. They hump each other in the ground, "penetrate"each others guard, and throw kicks and backhands and shit. Real fighting.

Boxers just fight for a half hour punching each other in the face with gloves.

REAL fighters get a man down and make him submit to their ground and pound.

I respect MMA, but when they try to go at it toe to toe. You get pretty much what the thread starter posted. Chuck Liddell was a long reigning champ and most of his wins were standing up and throw haymakers. He even gave advice to the MMA show he was in to throw windmill punches. If you want to believe that an elite boxer would lose to MMA, go right ahead. I am really impressed with the new LHW champ the Dragon, but if he stands up to go toe to toe with a prime RJJ, good night sweet prince. On the ground, what is there to say an elite boxer has no background in something else? Cintron is a champion college wrestler and I remember reading that Camacho, Sr is a blackbelt in some martial arts and then he got into boxing. Just two examples. This boxing vs MMA debate will go on forever.

I agree that all this talk about a mma fighter would destroy a boxer is bullshit, fighting is all about who can fight there type of fight , if a boxer keeps the fight standing up and avoids the takedowns then it is a no contest becuse there no better fighter than an ELITE boxer, but if a mma fighter can take the boxer to the ground and keep him there then the mma guy wins , but if he can't keep the boxer on the ground then its a no conest and the boxers wins.

Well, good thing MMA fighters have usually been working on some form of takedown and grappling most of their life, and unfortunate for boxers that 99% of them have never worker on stopping a takedown in their life. Guys like Cintron would be interesting, but wrestling in MMA is different than wrestling in a wrestling match, the spacing is different, and there is much less fighting for grips for the obvious reason that you have to watch for strikes. Also wrestling alone will still leave you with no experience with submissions or fighting off your back.

Also there are a few guys who would give a boxer fits standing and striking; you seem to forget that kicks, knees, elbows, and clinching are all pretty important and boxing ignores them. Somebody with really good leg kicks could really take just a straight boxer out of his game in a hurry; boxers don't train protecting the lower half of their body, and once they take a couple of really hard leg kicks they will have a lot of problems with planting their legs and sitting down on their punches. Also how many clinches do you see in boxing? A few a round on average; in MMA you dont have a ref to break them up, a good technical Muay Thai fighter will be able to do real punishing work with knees to the body and face from the clinch.

Your main point is right, it's just that too many boxing-only fans think that avoiding a takedown is somehow easy or that there would be a KO anytime an MMA fighter looked for a takedown, neither of which is remotely true. MMA has several world class wrestlers and Judo players, guys with national championships, Olympic medals, and serious international experience, and even those guys have trouble staying off the ground because of the unique challenges of MMA. Not to mention the world class submission fighters who don't even need the takedown neccesarily, their are submissions that can be applied from standing, their are subs like leglocks that can be rolled or slid into, and their are several ways to drag a fighter down by pulling guard and conceding top positions.

So yes, it depends on where the fight happens, and it's always going to be dangerous to be standing with a boxer; for the vas majority of boxers though, they have absolutely no way of keeping the fight where they want, they have simply relied on the rules of their sport to do that for them their whole lives. Again it's always a risk to stand with a boxer, but don't discount how damaging a strong leg kick, or to an even larger degree a knee from a good powerful clinch can be to somebody with no experience in stopping them.

Also, if you watch the rest of that fight, Igor nearly puts Enson in a coma because his punching on the ground is so damaging.

Being a master of MMA would be a master of one thing now wouldn't it? It's not like they have a boxing match, then have a wrestling match, then a Muay Thai match, then a BJJ match.

So what you are saying is you want to intentionally limit your skill set to one thing, and view this as somehow theoritically or morally superior.

Not if you want any prolonged success in MMA, especially if that one skill set leaves you more or less helpless against somebody who doesn't want to fight your fight.

Which is even more embarassing because it only requires mastering one skill.
