Well, i´m also annoyed but insulting fighters is just classless. I do respect boxers more than most, I just feel the heavywieght divisions suffering enough problems already now all these fighters are getting so called injured. Enough is enough already, stop training so hard right before a fight then if thats the case.

One thing that I have noticed and hope it doesn't effect thier outlook on bringing boxing to my T.V., all but JMM bout were Showtime cards if i'm not mistaken. Hopefully this won't make Showtime be like "to hell with boxing".

When is the last British HW that was acctually British. Not someone with a passport from half way across the world.

This used to happen with Gerry Cooney all the time from 1980 till he stopped fighting for good. The Shavers fight in august 1980 that never happened, the Bugner fight in Dec. 1981, Holmes fight was pushed back to June of 82' from march. And many others. On the other hand you get an old-school real Irishman like Jerry Quarry. Fought Ellis in 1968 with a BROKEN back. Jerry was horsing around and dived into a swimming pool with no water in it. In early 1975, JQ was high on cocaine and booze and took a fight with Norton on short notice. Oscar Bonavena had pulled out with a back injury. When Mike Quarry and Jerry were youngsters they used to play a game. Mike would pick a fight with some bigger kid and the kid would think it was pushover. Then Jerry would suddenly appear and beat snot out of the bigger kid. Later, Jerry doubled Mike over with a vicious shot to the ribs in sparring. He laughed and called his brother a wimp while he writhed in pain on the canvas.
Good post.
I think overall there is a line between an injury that can't be worked with, and one that can. I still feel that no boxer really ever enters a ring 100%. If they do it's rare. There are so many things physically and mentally that may make for an off night. But a great boxer fights through off nights. That's what makes for consistency.
Back injuries as we all know can be a multitude of things and varying degrees of pain. It is the one place you can claim hurt and nobody can really dispute how much pain you are in. Same with the neck. A broken hand is something I'd totally excuse for a boxer as it's what you use, its your main tool in your profession. Back injuries however I remain very skeptical about.

Matt Skelton: British

Frank Bruno was born in London.....
Henry Akinwande was actually born in Nigeria..
Lennox was from born in Jamaica , and raised since a kid in London then moved to Canada.
Herbie Hide was from Norwich England , his father was Nigerian..
Scott Welch was from Brighton.
Gary Mason was born in London.
Evander Holyfield was from Nigerian parentage , named Iman Cooley..
John Ruiz was from Rico..
Kirk Johnson was from Canada.
Alex Stewart was born in London
USA have as many based or claimed fighters that were born in other countries..
Britain has a lot of foreign parented fighters but were actually raised or born in the UK..
Its a very lame issue..

hey im not the one promising to fight, if i ever signed a contract to fight i will make sure i make it there, if not then i wouldn't sign it at all. You'd fight with more than a very minor injury? I know in the old school days they did, but no more. In the higher rankings most fights are signed well before serious training begins. You can't assume you'll get hurt.
I just remembered when G Foreman delayed one of his fights due to an injury during his early boxing career. They were asking the old time fighters about it, and most were critical of big George - and that was decades ago. I seem to recall Tony Galento talking about how (this is in the 70s) todays fighters weren't as macho as those in his era ! Although I doubt Tony G ever sustained an injury due to his "intense" workouts !
Today fighters will pull out of fights with anything worse than a hang nail. Different times. But to suggest they're cowards is silly.
