Wanna see what a great fighter does when faced with adversity. One of my favorite Sweet Pea fights, just for that reason.

Dude that fight was a horrible late stoppage lol. Dude the first punch knocked hurtado out cold and 9 loaded up power punches landed after that with hurtado limp on the ropes!! The announcers were like wtf!?!? What happened to Hurtado after that fight? was his career over with? cus that is some career ending shit right there.

He gave KT an exciting fight afterwards, but was thoroughly beaten.

I'm a big Pea and Tszyu fan, and two of my favorite fights (if not most exciting) were against Hurtado. Solid fighter.

Wilfred Benitez > Sweet pea

:-(

Benitez was great....but come on, you really dont believe that....AND THERE IS NOOOOOOO way to make an arguement to back it....now your just messin wit me.

Its one thing not being a fan (I will NEVER knock someone for not being a fan of a fighter)...but to say he was boring, really I just dont understand this. Later in his career when his skills declined from him abusing his body, I can see....but for someone to say they saw most of his fights and STILL say zzzzz, I just cant see that.

He is arguably the best defensive fighter ever.....and on top of that, his offensive arsenal was tremendous (also has one of the best jabs ever as well). Plus he regularly (prime Sweet Pea) threw 100+ a round.

Coming from someone who has seen all of his fights....he was one of the more exciting fighters I can remember.

But to each his own I guess....:huh

I remember watching this fight. I wish that Whitaker hadn't taken Hurtado so lightly going into the fight, he almost lost out on his big pay day with De La Hoya.

Mercante Jr waited too long, but Sweet Pea pulled through when his back was against the wall to win.

Damn right. Those anouncers who had Sweet Pea up were obviously biased, cause he was losing that fight. Its the reason its one of my favorite Whitaker fights. Too many of his were blow outs (yes even the "loss" to Ramirez and the "draw" to Chavez...those fights were one sided in Pernells favor), and you never really knew what would happen when he needed to reach down and pull one out.

This fight had him in the corner....till that left...and another, and another, and another........etc.

Just a GREAT finish.

Whitaker, IMO, is one of the 10 greatest fighters to ever enter the ring on a H2H basis, absolutely phenominal. However, I don't like this fight per say because I don't like seeing him struggle with a B level guy, even though he brought a sick KO in the end.

Cuban Hurtado was great, just didnt live up to his potential

He was a damn good fighter....but he telegraphed his punches too much and lacked in the chin area. But output, speed, power...he had it.

Floyd would have taught Pea a lesson about this sweet science.

While FLoyd is one of my favorite fighters, what you said isnt true. I think this would have been a hell of a fight if it did happen. But teachin Sweet Pea nah dont see that. THink Pea is a more complete fighter in the sense that they both are fast, but Pea uses his speed 2 his advantage and puts his punches 2gether. Other than that I cant say they are far apart from each other from a skill standpoint.

Both have very good defense, tremendous rather.
Great footwork for both
Both are very smart fighters
Both good headmovement, all though I might be leaning towards Pea in this category.

I mean it would have been a good fight if this fantasy fight took place.

it was fun to watch Hurtado box Sour Pee's ears off, and give him a taste of his own running medicine.

Other than that, I love watching how Sour Pee would turn his back on the opponent and run to the other side of the ring.

Ummm, did you even WATCH this fight?

Hurtado was winning a CLOSE fight. Clearly winning, but....boxing Pea's ears off? The main reason he was up were the knockdowns and the point deduction (tho there were plenty for both fighters...)....along with his overall output adding to it. BUT the better boxer in that ring was STILL Whitaker....BY FAR BTW!

And when did Whitaker run in that fight? He FUCKING BLASTED Hurtado...one of the more viscious knockouts you will see. 10 straight telegraphed power punches and Hurtado gets knocked out the ring (tho the ref shouldve stopped it at like 3 or 4....shame really).

You really should see fights before you make outlandish comments like that bro....ya really should.

Pea was the man. One of the greatest boxers to have ever stepped into the ring. This was a great come from behind victory.

Awesome finish by Pea, just brutal.
He looked shit up unti then though and was starting to show signs of fading.

That being said the fight showed Hurtado was a decent fighter beside his chin. He had power, size and decent skills and that was just at welter, to bad he just had a terrible chin.
