Has this ever happened to you? Even though you guys box, there are times you still have fears of fighting outside the ring? When trouble escalates, you simply walk away? Happened to me a couple of times and sometimes I feel like a pussy. I know I can take them yet sometimes I feel bad. I feel as if I wimped out.

I don't know much about the laws, but I know if you box and that comes out after you injure someone, you're fucked.
I don't box, but I've been told I have a hard punch (for an average guy) and if I hit someone it'll result in me getting done for assault. But for a boxer, you know your abilities, you'll be done for assault, possibly lose your rights to box and possibly go to prison for a while. So, is it really worth it?
This is just the kinda thing I've read on other forums, so don't know if it's all 100% true.

It only takes a well placed punch or the guy hitting his head on the way down and you could get done for murder. That's why I always avoid fights.
I don't know about a fear of fighting....I mean, I'm too confident in my skills for that....but there is nervousness, I guess. but that goes away right when you get into the fight.

There is a good chance they have a weapon, or friends to help him out, which can lead to serious injury or death. I only fight in the street as a last resort, even if you win, if you seriously hurt the guy your life will never be the same. I've been in the emergency room a few times with broken nose, fingers, and in one case jaw, thinking I could've been home scratching my balls watchin tellie instead of bleeding all over the waiting room for 3 hours.

i think it goes through everybodies head, so don't feel as if it is just u...for the law part; u will be in trouble if u sign off saying that your hands r lethal. after ur training for around 3 months or so, or if ur in ne martial art for a certain amount of time and move up in the rankings high enough, they will make u sign a paper saying ur hands r lethal, this is when u will get into the more trouble, even possibly attempted murder. as far as u just training, u won't get in ne extra trouble, every guy and even probably girl when lil used to wrestle/fight w/ their friends all the time (rough housing) part of life

Everybody gets a little scared before they fight, its your mind telling your body something bads about to happen. Boxing does give the edge in a street fight, but as I learned the hard way 80% of the time the fight will go to the ground were Im not as skilled. I learned couple things from getting into my fair share of street fighting, 1. Always get the first punch in on your oppenent its usually the cleanest hardest punch your going to throw during the fight, besides most of the time the guy your fighting never sees it coming. 2. As a boxer never get in close during a street fight, because if your oppenent gets a hold of you your weapons which are your fists are disabled. As the posters before me already said fist fighting is nothing but trouble, its best just to try and be cool with people and not open your mouth unless your your looking to fight.

I don't think its so much the fear of actully fighting but the fact that a street fight is unpedictable and gives you that sence of insecurity, as opposed to inside the ring. Street fighting can get you in trouble with the law, suriously hurt or killed for that matter.

You may be comfortable fighting in a ring, but Sun Tzu says 'never go to war in someone else's territory' there are too many unusual situations and factors outside the ring.
'get the enemy to fight your fight, not his'. And 'dont get into war unless you stand to GAIN something from it -Pride is your worst enemy and it can be used to lure you into battle'.

Walking away is not a bad idea. I know one guy who screwed up a promising professional career because he got into a streetfight and had one of his eyes gouged out. Fights with no rules can get very ugly.

Good advice above. There is one thing in common from street fights that have been brought to me (even minding my own business and everything) - there is generally alcohol involved. For some reason everyone is Mike Tyson once they get a dozen beers in them. Best to just walk away because as people already stated: if you win you could face assult charges/jail time. If you lose you could end up seriously hurt or dead. Kind of a lose-lose situation there. I have walked away from many streetfights so don't feel bad because you are doing the right thing.

boxers that street fight fuck up there career genrally. katsidis wasnt even allowed to fight in the US for a wile coz he had got in trouble with the law for defending himself against someone. if a boxer is fighting on the street, weather its self defence or not, we ussaly get in shit.

I've always tried to avoid street fights for the fact that I know what I'm capable of and I don't feel the need to prove it to a bunch of losers in the street.
But then there are the times where it's unavoidable no matter how passive you are. Still, no matter how many fights I've had in the ring I still always get nervous right before it starts, but the moment that first punch it thrown, it all goes away.
Also and this is fact, that even if you are a trained fighter, either pro or amateur; you cannot get charged with assault with deadly weapon if you get into a street fight. You might still get charged with assault, but that's if your even caught, most street fights end quick and are with people you don't know.
Last time a boxer got charged with that was in like the 1950's and since then they don't do it anymore for some legal reasons.

Paying bondsmen, paying lawyers, paying doctors, paying x-ray technicians, paying fines, fighting can be pretty expensive. Self defense is one thing but I would ignore some moron talking shit besides those guys are usually only brave when they have you outnumbered. You risk breaking your hand, infecting your hand and getting blood poisoning ( one of my friends had seem teeth lodged in his knuckles and had to be put on IV antibiotics ) and also you run the risk of being sued.

Yeah, in a street fight you never know what can happen. You might be able to beat the one guy your in a fight with, but then his 5 friends might jump in or they might use weapons. It's not worth the risk.

I think its the adrenaline. When youre in a heated arguement with someone and you know it could get physical then youre producing a lot of adrenaline because youre body is getting ready to go.
If youre not used to that, which Im not, then it can give you a wierd feeling.

Iv no fear as such if i see trouble , i get an adrenaline rush , however i dont act on it. Say you hit the guy take him out in one punch in a club or pub or summit , go the bathroom to get cleaned up then whack you get a glass bottle to the head. End up in hospital. This happened to my mate the other week at a club we always go to. Fist fights aint just fist fights anymore (where i live anyways). knife crime is huge here in england now and statistics show that gun crime isnt far off of america even though our population is lower. At the moment theres a shooting in the papers every week on average. Plus just cos you know u can take the guy out dont mean you have to. But i think its a hard balance keeping your pride in attack , if we bow down to these knife carrying fuckers then theyve won. But also its alot to risk!
Plus dont even get me started on the law , youd probably end up in court these days even when you dont start trouble

I found out this one guy who was in my boxing club back in the early 80s suffered a brain injury during a streetfighting brawl. Apparently he thought somebody stole his cache of dope, went over to the guy's house, caught the guy sitting on his elevated porch and he tried to climb over the railing to get the guy. The suspected thief punched him square in the chin when he was on the top rail and sent him hard to the pavement. He landed on his head and was in a coma for a while. Supposedly he doesn't have a short term memory anymore and he developed some kind of speach impediment.

Sounds more like a situation where a punch was thrown than a "streetfighting brawl" to me.;)

Yeah always talk someone down if you can. Try to stay out of a fight is the best way not to get into one.
I try to avoid street fights, but if I have to fight... or really WANT to... I will.
The only time I really, really wanted to get away, was when I was at a pub with just one mate, and I saw a guy I had previously bashed over my then current girlfriend. He was with 4 or 5 guys, and when we left, they followed. I really just wanted to run, I was scared shitless... because one of his mates was renowned for taking his fights too far, usually drawing weapons. He ran up and pushed me into a car, I turned and cracked him with a left hand, then ran like hell.
Yes, I felt like a pussy.

Leave fighting in the ring. Too many people get into fistfights over dumb shit. It's all that macho male postering bullshit; you don't need to worry about people who act like that.

Guys try to find the John Scully article about boxing and street fighting. Hellfire it is better that you hit and ran than to stay there and let his friends send you to the hospital.
What's this "fear" thing I keep hearing you faggots about? :?
j/k streetfights are for losers.

You felt like a pussy for defending yourself then running from 5 other guys? Running was the smart option, that or stay there and get your head kicked in.
