I think Ali won the 11th on all cards i'll have to check. What I do know of the top of my head is that Norton was awarded a TOTAL of four of the final seven rounds on all three judges cards (out of a possible 21). That's bad scoring.

The third fight was real close, when its that close you got to lean with the champ!

It should never be like that though. If it's a draw that enough for the champ to keep his belt but a judge shouldn't give a razor-thin round to a fighter just because he's the champion.

................I agree. You don't "lean." You judge each round individually, then do the math at the end. Whomever comes out with the larger number at the end wins. Quite simple.

I agree. The best Norton could have settled for is a draw. I actually had Ali winning it by a round, but I can understand a draw.

There's a school of thought that says you have to go after the champion and rip the crown from his head. This I disagree with, and I believe it is detrimental to boxing in that it leads to robberies like Ali-Norton III. Norton won that bout, just like in my opinion, Jimmy Young deserved to win the title aginst Ali earlier that same year.

Norton beat Ali that nite fairly easily and Ali could do nothing against Norton in that fight. The bodyshot that Norton landed on Ali ...had him hurt bad(Forgot the rd). Ali got his butt kicked just as he did against Shavers and recieved another gift ...and that's coming from a huge Ali fan.

I hate it when people say garbage like "you have to take the belt from the champ if you wanna be the champ!"

Well, what the fuck happened to being the champ then? If you have to get a gift decision just to keep the belt, then your sorry ass doesn't deserve to have the belt any more, does it :patsch

It's a total joke that contenders are held to a higher standard than champions...when it should be the other way around, if anything

The Norton fight was close, the Shavers fight was not.

Coneth,

Do you have your own score card? I too think Norton was robbed. It was not the first time the judges were on Ali's side. In the Ali vs Lyle fight, somehow the judges had Ali up on points at the time of the stoppage. Utter bollocks.

PS: Who's that drummer in your avatar? Is that John Bonham?

Well that was mostly trace back into the late 1900's all the way up to the late 1920's in the ND era. In that day the champion, could choose to defend his title in a ND bout. No desion was giving if it went the distant. Johnny Dundee was mostly known for useing this loop hole to defend his crown. Back than you RELLY had to rip the title from the Champs head. If not, the bout is a ND and the champ keeps his title.

I scored it 8-6-1 to Kenny. I did have my card somewhere.

True. But one judge had it even and another had Lyle just a point ahead. Both quite awful scorecards if we're honest.

I can't remember the even round, but I think it was one I was going to give to Norton if anything. Norton deserved the win. Never been any doubt in my mind. He controlled the tempo for the most part and his punches were more solid. A fair few had Norton winning too...including some of Ali's camp. :good

Having hated Clay since Moore. It took me a number of decades and a lot of watching the 12 round to give that round in the end to Ali.
I'd thought Noron won when I watched it on AFN.

Oh do shut up you bore. You said yourself it was really hard to score, now you're just licking Ali's cock. Many a good judge had Norton the winner. Ali himself thought he'd lost immediately after the fight.

I had Norton winning at least two of 'em. The first fight he took clearly, the rematch I scored it in Norton's favour by a single round (I can understand those who had a draw). Ali took the third fight by a margin of two points, I think- his late surge being enough.

Still, Norton won the series 2-1 in my eyes. Two of the fights were real close.

2-1 here too.

I 115-113. Mandingo.
II 115-114. Brother of bloke beaten by Danny McAlinden.
III 144-142. Sir Kenneth of Norton.

Thads kind of a pig. I always remind people who think Ken clearly won the fight of the Wide World of Sports panel of experts which viewed and scored the fight collectively round by round several weeks after the fight. They scored it a draw to Kennys suprise as these were all respected boxing men. I had it a draw going into the last round and Ken gave the fifteenth to Ali, and with it the the title and decision. Nuff said folks.

I can't understand what you're saying? What we're saying is that in two or three Ali fights during his second reign, he would find himself behind on the scorecards. Fortunately for him, a late rally by the judges saw him hold on to the title. :good

agreed. I've watched that fight several times looking for reasons to give it to Ali but at this stage in his career he was completely outgunned.
It wasnt close IMO
