Before you answer please dont come on here with the ridiculous..."Cotto will destroy ..... blah blah or vice versa"......!!!
This is the fight that i would love to see now as a Hatton fan...........but I do think Malignaggi will be next.........However Cotto is the fight that can really make Hatton in America as a big PPV fight........Alot of people will say straight away that Cotto is too much for Hatton but I dont know so much..........I think that the weight they are matched would have a big bearing on things at welter Cotto edges it while at Light Welter I give Ricky the shout..............I think the Zab fight showed that you can get to Cotto but on the flip side we all know he can get to you !!!!!!!!..............All in all I think it would a superb match up & in the wake of the latest "superfight PBF v DLH" ....... One that boxing needs.............:thumbsup

Honestly, I'd see Hatton getting the majority of the early rounds but fading as Cotto got stronger. Barring a fight stopping perfect punch, I think Hatton would be broken by the end of it, but it would be an entertaining fight due to both of their agressive styles.

Great fight, that's for sure.

cotto's punch power could factor, but so could his ability to get stunned - I don't think for one second that Cotto is china chinned, his beard seems pretty good, but he can be hurt. And Hatton would jump on him if he hurts him.

Cotto by TKO ... Cotto is too much for Hatton....he's too strong he throws in combos to head and body ...hatton won't be able to outmuscle him

Hatton's face will resemble carlos maussa after a bout with cotto

Tough fight for sure, I think Hatton has the better two wins in Kostya Tszyu and Castillo compared to Paulie M and Judah, but Cotto seems to fill out better at 147, so that would come into play.

Hatton seems to be the stronger chinned of the two, and better gas tank, but Cotto has the better single shot power.

Hatton is more dangerous with his right hand than Cotto, since Cotto is a natural lefty and while not a one handed fighter is still developing a full weapon of a right hand, wheras Hatton already has it.

Also, I don't think there is anybody in or around welter that is as strong as Hatton in the clinch, even Cotto. All things considered I think Hatton takes it in a tough fight, he has more weapons and ways to win, but you can't count Cotto out, ever.

hatton by ko at 140 or 147, take your pick.

Hatton couldn't KO, and was getting busted up by, Louis Collazo. Even he admits that 147 is too big for him. I'm also not sure how anyone can call Cotto "china chinned". He's been in with some hitters and has never been stopped.

Thanks lads............Some good genuine replies there.........I would take Cotto over Mayweather because I have to admit as a Hatton fan Floyds style & movement could make Ricky look very bad......e.g. Gatti.....!!!!............If Hatton could get Floyd into a mix up .... great.....but he wont as Floyd is to cute & as much as I hate to say it......too good at what he does.......Cotto on the other hand will come to Hatton & this will suit both fighters.......It has the makings of a classic....!!!!

Cotto by Ko
He is just plain better and is coming into his own at welter.

I think Ricky, whilst a huge jnr welter, just doesnt have the same impact at 147.

I am the opposite side. I'd Floyd over Cotto, but would give Hatton a good chance of beating him if he showed up in top form.

Cotto is toooooooooooo much for Hatton. It will be a 8-10 rounds great fight with great Cotto's combos to head and body. Hatton is too little for Cotto. At the end, Hatton's face will resemble Carlos Maussa, Abdullaev, Malignaggi, etc. after a bout with Cotto

Cotto will bust up hatton up...I don't see anything that Hatton has to beat Cotto.

Cotto by clear ud. We all saw what happened when Castillo fought a larger pressure fighter and Cotto is built like a friggin ogre!

This is a really hard fight to predict...

Cotto can be hurt easier, Hatton lacks the stamina and late round danger of Cotto. They both hit about equally very hard, maybe Cotto is a bit stronger though. Hatton has faster hands and better footwork. Cotto is more accurate and is more frugal with his punches.

Honestly I can see either boxer winning on points or stopping the other. Overall, I think Cotto is slightly better, so in the end he'd probably wear down Hatton late. Possibly stop him on cuts as Cotto does lots of visible damage and Hatton seems to have damage prone skin.

Agreed 100%. :good

Today: Cotto
5 years from now (when Cotto has presumably slowed down): Hatton

Aside from a couple of posts this thread has the semblance of sanity written all over it. Well constructed unbiased responses to what would be a tough fight to call.

My view is that both guys are pretty evenly matched hitting the peak time of their profession. Both have power, heart and love to fight. Both are used to being the bigger man in the inside fight. Both have similiar height/reach stats and both have equal, in terms of stature, resumes.

I for one would think it was 50/50 although based on the Collazo showing at Welter it does make sense to favour Cotto at that weight. However it would be interesting to see how Hatton would deal with going back up with a proper training regime for the weight.

I think the fight would be won and lost in the first 3/4 rounds where one of the guys realises that 'shit this guy really is an animal', the fight would probably take shape from there.

Agree it would be a barnstormer, not pretty, very rugged (haters insert clinch fest, hug fest here), but full of guts, blood, heart and determination. A fight that boxing probably needs right now.

At 140 i would take Hatton over Cotto anyday but at 147 Hatton just lacks size.

I agree it would be tough at Welter for Ricky but size wise they stack up quite evenly:

Ricky Hatton Miguel Cotto
Age 28 Age 26
Reach 65'' Reach 67''
Height 5ft 6'' Height 5ft 7''
Orthodox Orthodox

Luis Collazo was a natural welter at 5ft 9'' with a 72'' reach and a slick southpaw. I think that type of size and stance made a difference rather than what Cotto's would.

Nice post Gray........Lets all just hope it comes off......
Do you fellas think that the Fight weight would have a bearing on things.........Its hard to judge Ricky at 147 because the Collazo fight in hindsight had alot of factors that made it all wrong for him as a first foray into the division.......1)A slick underated fighter 2) Southpaw 3) Too short a training span to effectively move up a weight.........Dont get me wrong I'm not making excuses & as a Hatton Fan I think he was very fortunate to get the shout in that match but with the right conditioning & gradual move to 147 I think things could be better for Ricky...........Saying that though I do think Cotto would have the edge at 147 while at 140 I'd go for Hatton.........143 would be interesting............After seeing Cotto/Judah I'd have to say that I think Ricky could cause him problems.............but the flip side is that after seeing Cotto/Judah I can also see where Cotto could cause his own set of problems for Hatton..........A fascinating match up in my opinion & one that could eventually live up to its bill as a "superfight"......... It could turn into a savage brawl but in 1 round potentially more exciting than anything other "superfights" can offer at the moment.......

Yeah I hope so too.
Cotto strikes me as someone that would fight anywhere, anytime and the sae could be said of Hatton (although not his management sometimes). Whether that would be Maddison Sqaure Garden, the New 90,000 seater Wembley (which would be full guaranteed), City of Manchester Stadium (40,000), or Vegas I think it could deffo be made.

It's all down to the promoters to realise this was boxing requires, the fans demand it. Floyd would be a great fight for Hatton but I feel the negotiations would be hell and the fight would not be a good advert for the sport.

Yeh..... I agree Gray............I think the Mayweather route would lead to a fight that did nothing to really change all the haters views of either fighter & to be honest PBF could make Hatton look a damn sight worse than he actually is purely because of his style...........Cotto is deffo the fight that I feel as a Hatton fan needs making........As you have said the Garden ,Manchester or even wembley are all options.........jesus with the fans both fighters have & the styles they both bring to the ring they could have it in my back yard & generate more atmosphere & excitement than the last "big one" DLH V PBF.............
