Right Now - Just sitting on my balcony enjoying A fine 15 YO Scotch (the 25 YO in the cabinet tucked away for a special occasion), coupled with some Caribbean tobacco specialties.

For some reason ESB came into mind. Of all the chaos that goes on in other threads - the to and fro bickering and arguing - the proving each other wrong/right in childish ways - I thought ESB could do with a civil gentlemans club.

This thread is for civilised gentleman to discuss issues in a gentlemanly fashion. Express opinions in complete calm. No heated debates.

Lets chilll, relax and discuss.

The first issue that comes to mind is the death of the heavyweight division. In my opinion its not as dead as the hype indicates. The Ukrainian Doctors make sitting at the top look easy. But rightfully so. They arent idiots when it comes to the sweet science. They just turn a blind eye to what fans want, thats all. They are perfectionists - and perfectionists arent ones to headhunt and look for knockouts...

Now Gents, please discuss in an orderly and sane manner. If you disagree just express the fact that you disagree and respond with what you think. If you want chaos there are plenty of other threads you can use.

Additional rules:
Mundine and Green are banned from this thread.

Cheers Gents, and drink up.

Regarding the topic, I think the HW division is still a bit of a let down, though Haye brings some hope to it.
The sad thing is arguably the top 2 heavyweights have no interest of fighting each other (for very good reason mind you).

To the casual fan, Valuev comes off as an absolute nightmare, little do they know that he's as boring as batshit to watch, and his punches are about as lethal as a marshmallow being flicked at your face. If the guy could pack a punch, he'd bring so much more to the division.

Valuev is also a thinker in the ring mind you... You're right, his power punches arent too hard but if you watch his fights you'll notice that his Jabs hurt a lot more than the average HW jab...

Haye is still a question mark. Come sunday I will make up my mind on him. Tua's recent performance was a breath of fresh air but its about 5 years too late and its a flame that, even if it burns bright for a while will fade rather quickly.

I really hope Solis gets himself into better shape. Hes a good prospect but similar to Arreola just doesnt put in the hard yards...

I dont think theres ever been a time in history where so many retired greats are considering comebacks and cherishing their chances for a title...

I think he'd get murdered by the Klits, but aside from that, I can see him really impressing against the rest.

Interesting topic.

The HW division has definatley been a let down over the last 5-6 years.

Lewis, being the last genuine pugilistic crowd drawer to the HW carried himself with a charm and a swagger not seen since his retirement. Like him or loath him a replacement with the same charisma is no where in sight.

Unfortunately the top HW's are all from the former USSR and have the same clinical demeanor as portrayed by Ivan Drago, humorless bores adding to thier bank accounts for the greater good of thier nations.

Perhaps at this point the HW really does need someone like Areoli who can command an audience of hopefulls if not desperados by virtue of being an unfit slob who can punch and potentially take these boring easten block fuckknuckles out.

I dont think they post here anyway :yep

Although some people think Left Jab Danny is in fact Green himself.....I dont think so :-(

Anyway can we curse in this thread like...."get fucked"?

Or do we need to tame it down a bit like...."toss off old chap"

So back to the thread.......I think the HW division is just fine....the Klits going great......Valuev about to own Haye.....Arreola got handed his ass a few weeks back......I have no problem with the division.

And we have a nice little aussie/ NZ domestic scene with Sol, Alex, Tua, Mark, Cameron and co, its all good :good

I agree with the heavyweight division not being as bad as the media say it is.

The Klitschkos are dominating the scene and if Haye can beat Valuev in fine fashion, next year shapes up to be quite interesting.

Also, with young guns Povetkin and Solis showing great potential, there may be some great fights ahead.

Hopefully Meehan can finally get a crack at a title and Tua continue his comeback.

Yeah mate tend to agree....looking forward to seeing Meehan and Tua in action again.

I would also like to see Bobby get a good local fight against Sol or a remtach with Alex.

What really gets me though is that we DO have upcoming promise and talent. But I dont know whats up with the next generation dont seem to be putting in the hard yards in Training. Even Povetkin, as good as he is, is a little on the chubby side.

It makes no sense - there are young guns hungry for the title but think it will just be a piece of cake to get...

the way that the promoters are running the show, all the young up coming stars r given far too many easy kills and by the time they get a title shot they r real cocky because they have dominated their much inferior competition and have become a little lazy in training perhaps while the hype gets to their head and when they come up against the top dogs most of them just simply don't have the miles under their belt and they fail miserably.
otherwise there would be very few of the old heavies still in contention.

also the klits r simply too talented for the rest of the world. they r literally robots and i don't see anyone of the contenders beating them any time soon.

I agree. You don't seemed to see any lean hungry fighters, Haye appears an exception in a physical appearance sense.

In recent times, guys like Peter and Arreola have shown the same promise and their physical appearance has not been A grade.

If Wlad Klitschko continues his ways over the next 5 years, his dominance could be likened to Larry Holmes.

Good lord!! I just checked the other end of my veranda table in case you were sitting there. Nup. I was alone.

That little reflection was worth a response by itself, but alas,, as I continued to read, I began convulsing & spilling my Dewars. "Heavyweight division???" what heavyweight division?
What we got is a few big men minding the shop I'm afraid.
I wouldn't pay a bogie to watch any of them, & I'd rather sit in death row than ringside with Don King.

Baa humbug Sir.

I know you ain't the brightest of sparks out there Sally, but even you should be able to work out why a cricket thread is more suited to the lounge, than in a boxing thread. Though it might take you a plate of fish, and a decent nights sleep to work out why thats the case.

As for the searching rights...the search function usually gets dismantled on a Sunday, due to many users browsing the forum because of the live fights.

Evening gentlemen,

Once again Im here with my Quinta Ruban Scotch and hand rolled Cigar, contemplating events of this last week or so.

Attention has very quickly shifted from Heavyweights to Pound for Pound. And thank goodness for that. As we were hungry for topics we discussed what was a very boring affair between Haye and Valuev. However the clash between PacMan and Cotto was anything but boring. I was on the edge of my seat the whole fight.

As we all know, Manny emerged victorious from this glorious battle. Questions started flying everywhere - Is he the greatest of all time etc etc yet concurrently arguments were thrown around whether he is even the current P4P champ. Of course I refer to the extraordinarily talented Mr Floyd.

And heres my take. We all want to see a Floyd PacMan clash. Ive seen a few interviews with Bob Arum and had a chance to Observe his general demeanor. He, im my opinion gentlemen, is a slime bag of the highest degree, second only to that other Slimeball running the show in the Mundine camp... Floyd will have to really humble down and take a cut in order to satisfy what Arum will demand and score a fight with Manny. In my opinion PBF wont let his ego crack. I dont think this fight will happen. Where does this leave Manny. One option is the Mosley Berto winner. Lets assume Mosley wins. If he were to fight Mosley and beat him, he'd have only conquered someone that his last opponent beat anyway, so PacMan may not get the credit he deserves. Pac can try and drag Williams down a division again, but a fight with such a tall man is not in Pacs best interests therefore my bet he's gonna avoid that one. As Ive mentioned in another thread, he could chase Foreman. This would mean an 8th title in 8 weight classes. But is that apple as juicy as it looks? Foreman is relatively untested, and as an individual will certainly give Manny very little credit. None the less he would have a 154 title. The fight is definitely winnable for Pac.

If a fight with Floyd doesnt happen, Pac is really not left with much to add to his legacy. Can he retire and do so with several what-ifs in the air??? What do you guys think of all of this??
