Not bad for Groves, His opponent was only KOd once previously to the monster Oganov and even then that was the corner pulling him out

Congrats to Pulev to beating Olukun, that is one of the hardest 'novice' fights ever

Good to see Groves get rounds in the bank will be interesting to see how he looked on Sky. If he looked good I would like to see him against one of Nathan King or Danny Thornton before the years out in either a 6 or 8 rounder.
Helenius W TKO4
Thanks :good
Two great wins for HW prospects. Maybe the future is bright.

On box rec they have Robert Helenius listed to fight Lamon Brewster in December. If that is true then that is one impressive step up and if he manages to win then the future would most certainly seem to look bright for the young Finn.

Was that at amateur, I though Helenius was 10-0? The German Heavyweight scene really is awesome, they have most of the top Heavyweight prospects (Tyson Fury my arse) and something like 50% of the top 50 heavyweights are based in Germany.

He means Brewster just got beat by Oloukun. Regardless, Brewster is still a tough fight at this stage for Helenius & an impressive name on his record should that fight come off and he get the win.

Sorry just realised that me being a dozy twat.
Still a fairly decent step up for the kid, not many heavyweight prospects are put in with former heavyweight champions in their 11th pro fight.

Nice little build up from Haye. He looks very confident and I wish him all the best tonight. In an hour or so we could have a British heavyweight champion of the world.

Only just started watching the Sky coverage.
Was Gerber/McClean now its Helenius/Bidenko.
Helenius is dominating, too strong and powerful, Bidenko been shaken up and on his bike.
Helenius looks like he does, lacking athleticism but decent power.
It's that German MC who looks like a pedo. Think Buffer is doing the main event.
Bidenko is actually cut badly here in round 3. Maybe he's pulled out.

Arthur Abraham's with the presenters on German TV!
Can't believe they show it for free. Germany's looking like the way forward for boxing.
What can I say for Quiet Man..'workmanlike'
He really puts Valuev into context, this is the guy that narrowly lost to Valuev. Albeit fighting in a different style to one you'd expect Haye to use. Holyfield laid out Haye's blueprint, so there are two ways to beat this guy as shown by mediocre fighters at this stage.

I guess the Scorpions only play for the real warriors adopted by the Vaterland (ie Abraham). :bart

The usual embarassing moment when the English fans boo the opposite national anthem.
Really hope Haye does it but I'm nervous as hell for him.

Valuev not pulling the trigger. Haye trying to pull an Ibragimov (vs. Briggs) with lunging headhunting overhands as he moves laterally, but not really landing on anything but Nik's forearms.
Haye's doing outstanding so far, really well. Perfect tactics.

Both guys too negative in the first two rounds, I didn't bother scoring them.
Haye landing in the third, though - and evading (or smothering) the jab.
Valuev's jab is pathetic tonight. It's like an "Excuse me, do you mind if I touch your face? Oh, you'd rather not. Well, alright. Sorry for the trouble!" jab.

Valuev starting to throw his weight into more of his shots; trying to trap Haye in the corners, and seems to have figured out his movement (will walk him down against the ropes, then wait for Haye to circle near a corner and take a quick step to the other side of it to head him off). Haye's defending well, but this is Valuev's best round so far (4th)

Valuev actually hurt Haye with a combination near the end of the 5th (against the ropes). Haye puffs out his chest and tries to bluff the big man, keeping his hands at his sides and dashing in bravely to unleash volleys of his own. He's lucky that didn't happen earlier in the round, giving Nik another chance to utilize the ropes.

This is an interesting tactical match, actually. Haye leaving a breadcrumb trail across every inch of the ring, and Valuev trying to shut the phonebooth doors around him (when he does he's effective enough that Haye bounces away like a ping pong ball...David seems desperate not to let more than two or three flush shots land at a time...)

Val economical in the 5th-7th, loading up power shots and swinging for the fences. Haye is making him miss and outworking him (though not landing much himself).

11-07-2009, 05:51 PM
Valuev at least trying to make it interesting, applying intelligent pressure by circling into Haye and putting power punches together; he just lacks the footspeed and/or killer instinct to rush in and swarm Haye and rough him up physically (though there has been an increase in clinches in rounds 9-11). Final round coming up. Valuev wide UD unless something big gets through.

Haye won the 12th big, spending 85% of it in retreat/survival mode but landing huge bombs during a few moments, causing Valuev to lose his balance, shell up, and clinch.
Haye wins MD.

I listened to the 5 live commentary at the same time, and the commentary painted a picture the images sure weren't showing, unbeleivably biased towards Haye was the commentary. There were alot of rounds where not much happened which could have gone either way, the twelth was deffinitely for Haye. I wouldn't have complained if the decision had gone the other way, though Valuev was far from impressive. Either way, it was a pretty God awful fight and not the kind of "I've arrived" performance Hatton/Tyszu or Calzaghe/Lacy was for Haye.

just got back from my mates house, i scored it 115,114 to Haye... he boxed to negativly at times and beautiful at others, on top of this it seems he injured his right hand.
dispelled rumours of stamina problems and proved his chin isnt made of glass, he took some full blooded shots from a 320lb man. WELL DONE HAYE

Wonder if the hand injury excuse is legit? I doubt its a lie as it was pretty much the first thing he mentioned in the interview...Great performance if he didnt have his right hand at full strength for 9/10 rounds.
Mixed feelings on the fight a bit...I was impressed with Hayes discipline and especially his stamina...Lets not forget he had only boxed 15 rounds (6 at HW) in 2 1/2 years and he just went 12 with a 7ft giant without looking slightly tired.
But he could have made it so much more impressive though, if the hand injury is legit than thats fair play to him. He could have KOed Valuev though.
Lets see Haye put a Tua style beating on Ruiz (I think he will)
Well done Hayemaker!

Jim Watt was right tonight on some part, Valuev was landing from time to time, a very hard fight to score. I had it a draw 5-5-2 but fair props to Haye although i thought it he would land more maybe the hand injury was legit....
