Listen, i'll tell you all now before we start - I HAVE YET TO WATCH THE FIGHT ! I was on nights and am again tonight :good SO i'm not commenting on his performance

It seems to me that a lot of people here are going overboard in their celebrations.......

Haye won a fight that he was odds on favourite to win
He did not back up any KO claims he made before hand
He got a decision that although the majority claim was correct there is still a lot of people out there disputing this.

I understand that once again without any promotional backing, he went abroad and won, but really............. Was this as good as some people are making it out to be and does anyone (who picked the Klits beforehand) now change their opinion on his chances vs either Klit after last nights performance ??

Well done David Haye btw

That is all :good

Stop being so boring. Britain has a HW Champ for Christ's sake.

1) I think we're entitled to feel happy about it.
2) I've yet to come across a post like 'Haye is the best of the current HWs'. People on here know the context of the win.

He showed decent stamina, constant defence AND managed to buckle the beast, which shows his power is legit even against big heavys. You up for Ruiz at theO2 if it happens Dan, Haye has already said he'll knockRuiz out.

He was a former cruiserweight who just beat the biggest heavyweight of all time - I think we can go a little overboard!

First up, doesn't EVERY fighter say they are going to win by KO? I don't even let that stuff register.

Secondly, the manner in which he performed impressed me. As Lee Meager said on Buncey's show once 'everyone has a plan - til they get punched in the face'. Haye executed brilliantly. It is shit to watch and frustrating but he did what he planned to a tee. How many fighters can do that? Not many.

Lastly, the guy has gone to Germany and won the heavyweight crown. It wasn't in great style. I could see people scoring a draw or even a 7-5 Valuev, but to me Haye deservedly won.

But come on, the guy has won the heavyweight title. Does the style even matter?! We seem to ask a lot of fighters these days.

Come on Kos give it a rest with this biggest Heavyweight of all time crap. Valuev would have been stood on his head by around 6/7 fighters last decade

think it is a small achievement to have been the first man to wobble the biggest title holder in HW history. I'm just glad Haye won, hopefully he will gain widespread recognition when he takes out Wlad (which I have said for ages, I'm not caught up in the excitement and making a rash pick. Still unsure on Vitali)

Not just his fans . The clowns on 5 live were trying too say it was the best British win , away from home . They were describing a mayweather type performance.

Probably more than that in fact, but facts are facts - Haye was very much unproven at heavy, had terrible stamina, a poor chin, couldn't work to a gameplan etc. etc. Yet he still managed to beat someone who held all the physical advantages (and by some margin) and was a lot more proven at the weight comfortably in my opinion.

Yeah lots of people on the Brit forum thought Haye was going to win, however not many experts did (you could say they had a less biased view of the fight). This was a massive achievement that should be appreciated.

I do appreciate it mate but some onhere are talking as if its fucking Douglas/Tyson all over again. I would have expected Losfer who was a big Haye backer pre fight to calm down. Its like he was picking Valuev but now Haye achieved the impossible he can't stop playing with himself

(Sorry to use you as an example Losfer :good)

An outrageous comparison to Mayweather from 5 Live - p
Pretty Boy Floyd would not fight someone his own weight these days, let alone 7 stone heavier

I thought the jab to the stomach, lateral movement and poor workrate was very Floyd-esque actually.

Reminded me of Floyd-Baldomir at times. Floyd had no need to engage and Baldomir not the first clue how to make him.

I missed all of this:hey:lol:. For the record, I am just one of the many people on here who has been a big Haye fan for some time and have now seen him realise his lifelong ambition. Britain now has a champion in the blue ribband division of boxing once again. Personally, I think that's something to be immensely proud of. We also have a guy willing to mix it with the top guys rather than pad his record. I'm under no illusions about a win over a guy like Valuev, but it's still a huge achievement for a cruiser to come up and win the title against such an awkward opponent in only his second fight as a full time HW, nevermind make a guy 7 stones heavier than himself wobble.

Also, I did pick Haye to win, yes, but I am still more than happy he pulled it off. I'm hardly going to say 'well, I predicted this so fuck enjoying it'.

Stop going all radab on me and cheer up, you grumpy fucker!:good

glad he won. went crazy in the 12th round. it was an awful fight though. there is nothing exceptional about his performance. he boxed WELL BELOW his ability. the blueprint was set by holyfield, chagaev and many others. i wanted to see much more from haye. he didn't show it.

I thought that Haye did more than enough to get the win last night...:good

He will smoke the boots off Ruiz and then move onto Wlad or Vitali...I think that Haye can KO Wlad and would have to go against Vitali in a similar way to Valuev, sometimes you got to win ugly...:yep

Haye brings a lot to the table now...I think that he can clean up if he maintains this discipline he showed last night. I thought that Adam Booth was very calm in the corner and kept the fight strategy on track...

I thought that Haye looked so calm and collected in between rounds too.

Lets hope that Haye can clean up, he is British, lets enjoy his Heavyweight success...:happy

I like to see British fighters win championships by fighting though (especially ones who class themselves as fighters).

Take the way Bruno won his HW title for example... he was in a fight. The way Benn fought... this is the camp Haye is in.

Sure you can go down the root of the sweet science etc.. but Haye does not belong in that camp - it's not even how he sells himself. He never fought on the back foot, he threw nothing going backwards, he simply avoided fighting for much of the fight.

Haye is welcome to a pass though, as it was a bit of a freak of a fight, and I doubt he will fight that way again.

If he did, then full credit to him slip, but we all know that nearly every boxer comes out with such comments after a subdued performance. Take Rogan on Friday for example.. he hurt his arm, apparently.

3rd Apparently Heavy

Jon I know what your saying but Rogan used that as an excuse to quit as he knew he was getting beat, as did Witter.

At least Haye used it after he'd won

So did Calzaghe after getting in a close one with Reid... etc etc...

Pavlik had some sort of flu against Hopkins...

I don't believe they are. It was a fantastic achievement for a former cruiserweight. I'm not even a huge fan of David Haye but he deserves his day in the sun, he won a heavyweight title away from home. It will all blow over in a weeks time, it always does.

JonOli

To be fair to the Haye fans (and I like Haye myself) they are not "going as overboard" as perhaps some of the Hatton and Calzaghe fans have done in the past after a win.

Thing with this hand injury in the second or third - he'd already shown us how he was gonna fight.

And he still threw single rights.

I don't believe it affected his gameplan or performance THAT much.

Big Haye fan, delighted he won... but he's a drama queen. Remember when he got cut?

Haye's just been on GMTV, I take it back, his right hand is fucked !

I watched the fight live and Valouev won it. He threw the punches while Haye ran and did not throw punches, very few. I agree with Jim Watt.
Chagaev won the title from Valouev, and Vlad beat Chagaev winning the title in the ring. WBA took the title away and gave it to Valouev. Ruiz did better against Valoeuv than Haye. Holyfield did also.

I think Haye may end up with the same hand problems as Naz, they throw punches in a similar faction with all their weight behind it.
